The European Union
•The European Union (EU) is a political and economic union of 28 member states that are located primarily in Europe. It has an area of 4,475,757 km2 and an estimated population of about 513 million. It was established in 1950 with the goal of putting a stop to violent wars. The first countries to become members were Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Germany and the Netherlands. Since then, 22 more countries have joined and now the EU has 28 countries with membership.
•Its capital city is Brussels and the largest city is London. The motto of the EU is “United in Diversity” and its anthem is the “Ode to Joy”. The EU has 24 official languages and the currency Euro, which is used by 19 of the countries.

European Parliament
•The European Parliament makes laws and represents citizens of countries-members. There are 751 members of the Parliament, who are being elected by citizens every 5 years.
The Council of the European Union
It discusses main issues and decides on new laws. The members are government ministers from every EU country.
