But next year the 39-year-old actor will battle it out with the Hollywood hard man in the big-budget action flick Bloodshot.

Sam says: “The movie is out in February and I play a fantastic character called Jamie Dalton who is an ex-SEAL. It’s really fun but a really dark comic book movie.

“Vin Diesel is an amazing man and to beat him up was a great honour.”

He added: “We will see how long Outlander goes for. We’re on season five and we’re definitely doing season six.

“But Bloodshot was great to just do something completely different.”

Neds actor Peter Mullan told how he will be doing another Netflix series called Cursed – after being killed off as baddie Jacob Snell in the streaming service show Ozark.

“I play Father Cardin who is a psychotic monk from the 13th Century who takes no prisoners.

“I loved doing Ozark but the problem was there was a lot of travel back forth to America and stuff and I think two series is enough.”

Trainspotting and Bridget Jones actress Shirley Henderson is up for Best Actress for her role as Lucille Hardy – wife of John C. Reilly’s Oliver Hardy – in the hit film Stan & Ollie.

The 53-year-old says: “Getting to work with John was amazing. He became Oliver. I couldn’t take my eyes off him. He looked exactly like Oliver Hardy, it was just incredible.

“But his fat suit was weighted so he was very, very tired at the end of the day because it was so heavy.

“And John is very tall so I was so small beside him, but so was Lucille, who used to cuddle in under his arm.

“It was actually difficult to do any research because there’s not a lot about her, but when I did find a little video of her she was just so caring and sweet towards him.

“But I met someone in America who had known her and he came up to me and said that even though I didn’t look like her, he felt like I was Lucille. That was really nice.”

And the Scot reveals she will appear again with Stan Laurel actor Steve Coogan next year in the film Greed.

She says: “I play Steve’s mother.”

And Saoirse-Monica, 25, from Londonderry, reckons playing Erin has aged her prematurely.

She says: “I have to pull so many faces for it I think I have given myself all these laughter lines I shouldn’t have at my age.”

But Nicola, 32, from Galway, praised Scots viewers for instantly becoming fans of the show about teenagers growing up in the troubles.

She adds: “I think Irish and Scots really have a rapport with one another and know the craic and have the same sense of humour.

“But we never expected it to take off the way it did. We have no idea where it’s going, we are always the last to know but it’s been amazing. I’m so grateful, it’s class.”

Alex Ferns has revealed how he refused to be up staged by a bigger actor when he had to flash his willy in the hit series Chernobyl.

The 51-year-old played miners leader Glukhov in the show about the 1986 Nuclear reactor disaster.

He says: “One of my mates was in it and I turned up in the make-up truck still in my dressing gown and he was standing there swinging away.

“I was like ‘you’re in the back of my shot – stay away from me.’ I’d love to say it was cold but it wasn’t.”
