Mistrust.
It was all Adara did.
Fear.
It was all she ever knew.

Adara Kerslake has kept her identity a secret from the Cynn Cruors for as long as she can remember. When Cynn Cruor warrior, Luke Griffiths, comes hurtling into her life, she flounders. Afraid of dealing with the Cynn Cruors and the man who captured her heart, she leaves, burning bridges in the process. Until a loved one forces her to rebuild those links that brings her back into the world she fought so hard to escape from.

And to the warrior whose passion haunts her every sleeping and waking moment.

Luke goes into a spiral after Adara leaves and it is only by the strength and love of his Cynn Cruor brethren and their women that keeps him from tripping into insanity. To forget her, he prepares to leave for the Ancients’ Faesten in Anglesey on a mission that can lead to his death and the banishment of the Manchester Cynn Cruors if he isn’t careful. When Adara returns, the last thing Luke wants is to get involved again. But he can’t stay away. What’s more, someone in the Ancients’ Faesten in Anglesey knows who she is and is out to get her.

Two missions merge to one. A desire to know the truth becomes entangled with the desire that never waned between Adara and Luke.

Until a spectre from Adara’s past threatens them both…and brings in a new enemy for the Cynn Cruors.

*Although characters from other books in the series have cameo roles, this novel can be read as a standalone.

Isobelle Cate is a woman who wears different masks. Mother-writer, wife-professional, scholar-novelist. Currently living in Manchester, she has been drawn to the little known, the secret stories, about the people and the nations: the English, the Irish, the Scots, the Welsh, and those who are now part of these nations whatever their origins. Her vision and passion are fuelled by her interest and background in history and paradoxically, shaped by growing up in a clan steeped in lore, loyalty, and legend.

Isobelle is intrigued by forces that simmer beneath the surface of these cultures, the hidden passions, unsaid desires, and yearnings unfulfilled.

Reviewed on behalf of http://bookaddict.live,
It has been a while since there has been a new Cynn Cruor novel and I was lucky enough to be able to get a chance to read a new book from one of my go to series before it was released. This is the eighth book in this fascinating paranormal series.
For those of you who haven’t read the series you will need to start with Rapture at Midnight or you will be very confused. This can be a standalone, but to get the full benefit it is best for the books to be read in order.
The Cynn Cruors are an immortal race created originally with werewolf and vampire genetics. They were created to live quietly among humans and to keep them safe. In most large cities around the world they have a presence there to keep humanity save.
This is story of Luke Griffiths and Adara Kerslake, and what a story. This is an action packed with plenty of drama and shocks for the ancients as well as the rest of the Cynn Cruors. Luke and Adara are mates even if the two of them have many misunderstandings, but when the chips are down they are there for each other. This is a fantastic read with so much going on it will leave you shaking your head. At least Luke and Adara have a happy ending and are accepting each other wholeheartedly. If you love a good paranormal series, why not start with Rapture at Midnight which happens to FREE at the moment.

HMOG this is a brilliantly mind twisting, heart tugging, passion filled story!

Luke is struggling with his place in the Cynn Cruor world, whilst still protecting that world from the Scatha and other ne'erdowells. He thought he had found heaven with Adara, but she fled in the night.

Adara had hoped she had put her shaky, traumatic past behind her when she found Luke. But her past comes flooding back and she struggles to separate Luke and the others from Manchester Faesten from those Cruors in her past.

Drama, intrigue, political machinations, all with a paranormal twist. I did struggle a bit trying to sort out all the different factions but I truly enjoyed getting to know the world, just a pity I missed the first books in this series. I now have to go back on myself and start from scratch!

*It’s stated that this book can be read as a stand alone- I beg to differ because if you’re anything like me, then you’ve got to read this series in order to get the full story of what is going on...alas just make sure you’ve at least read Midnight’s Yule & possibly Firebinders:Marek.*

4 Months Later...

“Adara’s been successful in hiding from the Cynn Cruors for so long, do you think we’ll have a chance in hell of finding her now?”

Last time we saw Luke Griffiths he was not his usual self in the video link with Marek looking crestfallen...and the reason why? Adara Kerslake. Adara left Luke in the middle of the night without so much of a note or a kiss goodbye. Now Luke wants to close off his mind of the memories that they shared together... but that won’t be easy because Adara is not a woman who you can easily forget, especially when she has stolen a piece of your heart.

But this was the woman he loved. The woman he knew in his heart was his mate.

One way to distract himself would be to follow the order from The Hamilton to spy for him. It should be a piece of cake because something Luke has done many times before and with his unique ability to timeshift it shouldn’t be a doddle...unless of course the person question is the Ancient Eald...

We knew from the last book that Adara had a secretive past. Keeping to the shadows of the Cynn Cruors, but that didn’t stop her from fighting Scartha from the sidelines. What was her story, why is Adara running from ghosts of her past? Who was this immortal female? Most importantly why did she leave Luke?

“So why can’t you accept the Faesten’s protection?”
“The danger isn’t from the Scatha, Luke. It’s from the Cynn Cruors.”

Scatha are never too far away from trouble and not before long the Manchester Faesten warriors must gear up and stop the Scatha from causing havoc. But things take a deadly turn and Luke is a breath away from kiss of death, when who should appear but Adara.

“I told you I’m not going anywhere.”
“If my chest wasn’t hurting so much, I’d be laughing my arse off.”

To say it’s hardy a warm welcome for Adara would be putting it mildly. But the Faesten is weary of her, the pain that she caused Luke with her actions and now Adara wants a favour in return for saving Luke. Luke who must now leave her and go to Anglesey Feasten. Adara can’t let Luke go knowing his plans to spy on the Ancients and making it clear to Roarke that she is no push over she joins him and Denna. Even though she knows that this will expose her the very beings that destroyed her innocents many years ago and the reason why she fled.

There it was again...the tingling at her nape and the back of her head. The frigid touch of someone’s gaze down her back. The taint of evil. Old familiar evil she couldn’t put a track on.

There’s an underlying threat within this story and not always from our resident evil guy we love to hate Dac- who I might add is hardly crying a river over losing Herod D'Argyl and feeling smug that his secret is firmly put to rest. No this time our warriors are going to have watch their backs and with all the Dux’s and Ancients in one place this is the perfect opportunity for trouble to arise, loyalties to be tested and putting faith in unlikely characters.

Adara was his weakness and his strength. She was his Holy Grail. Forever part of his life and forever out of bounds.

Luke & Adara... <3 Wow these two really do keep you guessing throughout the story. I think once you get to know Adara, learn about her past and grievances then you can understand her character more, her actions and feelings towards to the Cynn Cruors. This is a full story with both of these characters so you really got to sink into their stories this time and watch the events that follow keeping you on your toes. Some moments will make you “Ohh!”outloud-you’ve been warned!

“I can’t force you to love me back. I should have seen that all along.”

It is a rocky road, emotional as ever and just when you think they are on the blink of a connection the rug may be pulled right from under you!

“Don’t you know your favourite food is a highly volatile source of bad cholesterol?”
“Yeah so sue me.”

Get ready because all of our heartthrob warrior males and sassy leading ladies are back! It’s the full gang in this one and with some new faces added into the mix.

“Promise me that when you know the truth, you won’t hate me.”
“Why would I hate you?”
“Because you will.”

I enjoyed this book! When I started reading this book I was not aware that it is the eighth book of this series. I will be going back to start on the first book. I want to meet all of Ms Cate interesting characters and their mates.

Luke and Adara takes you on a journey of secrets and betrayal. It is a journey of suspense, action, romance and mind blowing sex. There is so much intensity, it kept me glued to my seat.
Luke is given a mission by the Cynn Crusors. A mission that may get him killed.
After spending a night together, Luke knows that Adara is his mate. But Adara has turned Luke away leaving in the middle of the night and denying his love for her. To accept Luke, may get them both killed. If her secret gets out. Will Adara secrets be discovered? Will Luke forgive Adara for her rejection? Will Luke return from his mission to confront Adara? Join them on their journey and read the conclusion of thier story.
This story line is strong and flows with the characters. Luke and Adara will keep you on the edge of your seat.
I would recommend this book to all my friends.

Although this *can* be read as a standalone, you're really cheating yourself if you don't read the whole series.

This installment is absolutely the perfect mix of past meets present with a sprinkling of supernatural, a squeeze of thrills, and just enough heat to keep you toasty on a cool autumn night. Adara and Luke might be the latest meant-to-be couple, but their story is all their own. It's said you can never truly escape your past, and for Adara her past before and with Luke is about to combine in a tumultuous storm that will heighten their passion and endanger their existence.

A definite #mustread

My goodness. Can his series get any better? This story is so full of drama, ups and downs, frustration. And I loved every bit of it.
Luke and Adara have come a very long way to be together and their story was long time coming. I love the connection they have. It is almost palpable.

What's Love Got To Do With It...

When Luke woke up expecting to find the woman that has captured his heart, he is devastated to find that she has run off without a word. Serves him right for opening his heart to a warrior and she even left the bracelet he gave her for Yule the day before in her place. Not even a goodbye.....

Luke Griffiths is so sullen about his love life that he resorts to hunting down and killing the scatha with no regard to his safety and Adara is watching him in the confines of her home with a broken heart. How could she stay with the only person to ever show her such love and devotion with a past like hers? She cannot and will not trust the Cynn Cruors, but when she discovers the lengths that Luke will go because of her treachery to him, she cannot sit on the sidelines anymore, but will he forgive her when he discovers what is in her past?

Wow!!! This book was an epic tale of heartbreak, secrets and betrayal.
Adara Kerslake and Luke Griffiths of the Cynn Cruor's become entangled only for Adara to leave him after an unforgettable night together. Luke cannot understand why or get over the fact that she left him after they shared such a strong and powerful connection. After months of pining for her he gets sent on a dangerous mission to Anglesea where he once again meets Adara and they can't stop the powerful attraction to each other from turning into a deep and consuming passion.
Midnight's Flight is probably my favorite book of this series so far as it took me on such a pulse racing adventure. Firstly there is a lot of action and fighting that will keep you entertained and also lots of banter amongst the characters of the Cynn Cruor's that had me laughing so much as they were ribbing at each other, and we mustn't forget the drama and the romance that happens between Adara and Luke. They face a lot of obstacles to get to their HEA but it was such a thrilling ride to see them finally get there. Luke gets totally put through the ringer to defend and protect her and he is such a great character that he does it with so much grace and honor. This book is a rollercoaster of emotions and it made me really feel for them both.
This is such a great story and is another wonderful addition to this series, I can't wait for the next!

New enemies are discovered

I am so glad that I got to read another book in the Cynn Cruor world. I love all of the strong, kind, caring and devoted characters. This world of immortal vampire/werewolf hybrids is so enticing, it almost seems real.
This book is about Adara and Luke whom we read about in the Midnight's Yule novella. Adara has a terrible past that interferes in her relationship with others. She doesn't get close to many people because she is afraid to trust and be betrayed. She also believes that most Cynn Cruors want to use her because she is the only Cynn female immortal.
Luke goes into a depression when Adara walks away from him. So when he is asked to go on another spying mission he agrees. This mission is to spy on the Eald(Cynn Cruor creator) and means that he might not survive if he is caught.
There are new enemies introduced into the storyline in this book. Love and betrayals make this book so exciting that I read it non-stop. I look forward to many more books in this engaging world!

Luke and Adara's story is heart breaking as it is wanting what you think you can't have not knowing the other wants you just as bad but neither admitting it or trying to fight for each other. Luke thought he found the one until Adara left without a word leaving him stunned and angry at the world. Fate brings them together again when she reveals one of her many secrets and then he finds out one that involves her. You go through all the angst, betrayal, frustration, lust, loss and finally hope. The fact that all the characters from the previous books are there helps bring this story to life and makes you fall in love with this series all over again. There are so many twists, surprises and laughs within this book and you are left riveted to your seat as you learn still more about the Cynn Cruors, the Eald and Scatha Cruors that makes you even more intrigued about where things will go next. I freaking love this series and can not wait to read the next in the series !!

Luke and Adara's love story is a beautifully written continuation of the Cynn Cruors saga. Each new book in this series reveals fascinating layers. While you could pick up in the middle you will likely feel like you are missing vital pieces of the puzzle so I strongly suggest starting with book 1. This is not a simple cut and dried love story, rather this is a story of two people that find their way to each other despite internal and external challenges. I would highly recommend this book as it is a fresh take on paranormal romance.

Great Lon awaited, return into the Cynn Cruors

Luke and Adara have skirted each other for centuries, literally. Amazing love story, 2nd chance romance, woven into the best paranormal series. If you love a well written story, splash of romance, sizzling sexy, great characters, not forgetting alpha males who fall hard for their strong ladies, this is for you. Can be read as a standalone BUT I'd suggest starting at the beginning of this series for maximum enjoyment.
