Typhoon Mangkhut as it happened: when 2018’s worst storm slammed Hong Kong

Highest typhoon warning issued as Hong Kong suffers through what could be its most intense storm on record

Almost 900 flights delayed or cancelled, and public transport paralysed

Severe flooding hits neighbouring Macau

Mangkhut’s storm signal was downgraded from T10, Hong Kong’s highest warning level, to T8 after 10 hours as the typhoon pulled further away from the city.

The number of hours the No 10 signal was up on Sunday failed to break the Hong Kong record set by Typhoon York in 1999, when the signal was issued for 11 hours.
