Lego Launches Functioning Sustainable Wind Turbine
Lego has teamed up with Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas to create a turbine model from sustainable bricks that actually works!
Playing with Lego just got better for the environment. Lego has teamed up with Danish wind energy company Vestas to create the LEGO® Creator Expert 10268 Vestas Wind Turbine kit.

The tiny motorized wind turbine actually works! The detailed wind turbine stands 1 meter tall and is created from 826 pieces of white plastic manufactured in Lego’s new sustainable fashion.
The turbine has three adjustable blades that rotate via a motor and come with built-in aircraft warning lights. The elegant turbine stands above a quaint rural scene including a house with furnished patio, mailbox, flowers and a white picket fence.
Lego kit comes complete with technicians and a dog
The big Lego set also includes a Vestas service vehicle and three mini-figures: two Vestas service technicians kitted out with safety helmets and a woman. There is also an adorable a dog figure.
Not only is the kit the very model of sustainable energy, but the kit was also created from Lego’s new sustainable, plant-based bricks made from sugarcane, which they announced earlier this year. The new bricks are made from polyethylene, a soft and durable plastic, which Lego said are “technically identical to those produced using conventional plastic.”
Promoting renewables

This wind turbine celebrates our first steps in bringing these ambitions to life and we hope it will inspire builders to learn about renewable energy” said Tim Brooks, Vice President, Environmental Responsibility at Lego Group.

Morten Dyrholm, Group Senior Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs at Vestas also emphasized the toy’s potential impact relating to the promotion of clean energy.
“Today, wind energy is the cheapest source of energy in many markets, which have made wind turbines a sustainability icon across the globe and we are proud to partner with the LEGO Group on this relaunch,” said Dyrholm.
“The original Vestas® wind turbine LEGO model was specially created for Vestas® to promote wind energy to a small audience within energy and as such, today’s relaunch to the global LEGO community tells the story of how wind energy have gone from niche to mainstream, not just within energy but the entire world,” added the executive.
The turbine kit along with the plant-based plastic bricks are part of Lego’s ambition to see sustainable materials implemented in their products by 2030 and in their packaging by 2025.
