Nag Nets Two in Win Over Union

The Florida Tech Panthers got their third straight win to start the 2018 season, taking down Union 4-2 on Monday, at the AUM Soccer Complex in Montgomery Alabama.

Aymerick Berald-Cate, who was the winning goaltender in the Panthers season opener on Thursday, did give up the first goals of the season, but made three saves in the contest, the first coming 1:44 into the match.

The Panthers came out firing, taking six of the first seven shots and getting three corners in the first 19 minutes of the match. Only one of those shots was on frame, coming off the foot of Per Henrik Nag and the save was recorded by Bulldogs netminder Casper Nyberg.

Union (0-1-0) withstood the onslaught and AJ Morgado rewarded his squad with his fifth goal of the season. The shot came from just outside the 18-yard box and whistled by Berald-Cate, making it 1-0.

It didn’t take long for the Panthers to find the equalizer, as 1:07 after the Union goal, Paris Junior Roserie forced a turnover and used his speed, to beat Nyberg and tie the game.

Berald-Cate would make a save with 40:19 gone in the game and 37 seconds later, Nag got another chance and cashed it in with a header. Craig McCall picked up the assist and the Panthers grabbed a 2-1 lead.

Nag had one more chance a couple minutes later but was denied by Nyberg. When all was said, and done in that first half, the Panthers took 11 shots to Union’s three. The Panthers had three corner kicks in the half.

The second half was pretty even for the first 20 minutes, with the Panthers getting a couple shots, only to see Cole Asfour tie the game in the 69th minute, scoring from about 10 yards out.

Solomon Wheatley and Nag teamed up to untie the game, with the two working a give-and-go, with Wheatley finding the back of the net and giving the Panthers a 3-2 lead.

Florida Tech took advantage of a bad clearing attempt by the Bulldogs just 1:51 after the Wheatley goal, Nag scored his second of the night, giving the Panthers the insurance they needed en route to the 4-2 win.

Florida Tech (3-0) ended the night with 21 shots, eight on goal. Nag led the way with four, while McCall, Hugo Lopez, and Wheatley had three each.
