Situation at Kyrgyz-Tajik border assessed as stable, State Border Service

Bishkek, Jan.12, 2020./Kabar/. As of Jan. 12, 2020, the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border is characterized as stable, the press service of the State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic said Sunday.

According to the Service's data, the night passed quietly.

Border guards of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan continue to patrol along the borderline of the state border.

Border guards and law enforcement officers of the two republics are working together with the population of the border, as well as conducting measures to prevent offenses and escalation of conflicts in the border area.

The situation is under control of Chief of the General Staff, First Deputy Chairman of the State Border Service Colonel Alimbayev and Kyrgyzstan's Deputy Interior Minister Colonel Orozaliyev, who are in Batken Oblast.

On Jan. 10, 2020 at 1 a.m., unknown citizens of Tajikistan threw stones at the cars of two Kyrgyz citizens on the Osh-Batken-Isfana highway.

At 2:40 a.m. shots were fired at the section of the Kok-Tash border post in the Dakhma area from the Tajik human settlements, which forced the Kyrgyz side to begin evacuating women and children.

The shots were stopped at 8 a.m. According to official data, the situation at the station is now relatively stable.

Next day, Jan.11 Presidents of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held phone conversation to discuss the situation at the border.

Prime ministers of the two countries, as well their deputies also discussed issues related to joint measures to stabilize the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border.
