But the Tay Road Bridge has now re-opened in both directions following the incident - after being closed for some time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "About 4:20pm on Wednesday the 12th of September 2018 Police Scotland received the report of a male who had jumped into the water from the bridge.

"Emergency Services including police, ambulance and coastguard attended in the area and a search of the area is currently ongoing.

"Both carriageways and the walkway of the Tay Road Bridge were closed for a period of time but are now open to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

"Any person who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contacted Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident 2372 of the 12th September 2018"
