Girlboss (2017)
This Netflix series follows the story of Sophia Amoruso, the real-life founder of an online fashion store called Nasty Gal. The show is based on Amoruso’s autobiography, #Girlboss, and recounts the life of the designer and entrepreneur as she goes from upcycling thrift store outfits and selling them on eBay, to building her fashion empire. The perfect motivation for future fashion moguls.
The Carrie Diaries (2013)
This is a spin-off series of the popular early-00s show, Sex and the City, and follows the adventures of a young Carrie Bradshaw (Anna Sophia Robb) in the mid 1980s as she interns for a New York fashion magazine. This show is well worth watching – if for no other reason than to marvel at Carrie’s weird and wonderful 80s-inspired outfits.

Project Runway (2004 – 2018)
This reality show is pretty much the fashion world’s version of Master Chef. Participants are given a theme and a selection of fabrics to work with and must race against the clock – and each other – to design and create the best item of clothing.
Each week, the judges decide which contestant should be kicked out of the competition. It’s exciting viewing, but also a scary insight into an extremely competitive industry.
Ugly Betty (2006 – 2010)
Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) dreams of becoming a successful writer. She’s talented and hardworking – but completely lacking in style. So, when she lands a job at a top fashion magazine, she is a little out of her element.
Rather than trying to change who she is to fit in with the elites of the fashion world, though, she sticks firmly to her principles (even when faced with the disdain of her colleagues) until her compassion wins the hearts of those around her. This heart-warming comedy drama will make you believe in the power of your own actions.

This is possibly the most iconic fashion movie of all time. Meryl Streep stars as Miranda Priestly, the powerful, no-nonsense editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine.

While Sachs struggles at first to fit in among her sophisticated colleagues and please her boss, she gradually learns what it takes to survive in the cutthroat world of fashion – and what you have to sacrifice along the way.
Funny Face (1957)
Audrey Hepburn stars as Jo Stockon, a bookstore clerk who doesn’t have a very high opinion of the fashion industry – in fact, she hates the idea of modelling.
Of course, that’s exactly what two fashion magazine executives find appealing about her. They see potential in this shy, unassuming girl, and believe she can breathe new life into the modelling world. The plot then follows Jo on her journey to becoming a world-class model.

Phantom Thread (2017)
The story centres around an extremely difficult fashion designer called Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis), who creates gowns for high society women in London in the 1950s. He is adored by his female customers, but none ever leave a lasting impression in his heart – until he meets a young waitress, Alma (Vicky Krieps).
Woodcock soon makes the headstrong Alma his muse, and the two fall in love – but they soon discover that there is more to making a relationship work than mutual affection.
