The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend's Sister

Rate this book
How do you date your best friend's sister? Easy.

Step one: Pretend you want her to set you up with someone else. That will bring the two of you closer.

Step two: Go on date with lots of random women, proceed to get stupid drunk and talk about your best friend's sister, thus gaining the courage to finally make a move.

Step three: Randomly show up at her apartment and confess your love. Women love that, right?

It all seemed so simple. A fool-proof three step process that will guarantee the love of your life to fall madly in love with you.

At least--that's what I thought was going to happen. But my attempts to win over Julia Westin backfired in more ways than I can count. The thing about Julia? She's smart--really smart--and her wicked gaze cuts through all the charm I've tried slinging her way. She's not interested in games, my gifts, or my stories. She might want me too; but she's not giving in that easy...

When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.

You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.

I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.

And just like that, I feel my heart leap out of my chest and right into Julia’s hands. She holds it; she has it all to herself. But I don’t think she realizes that mine beats because of her—that she has the potential to crush it more than anyone else in my life—and I hope she doesn’t throw it back at me. Ever.

THE SECRET TO DATING YOUR BEST FRIEND’s SISTER has got to be one of the longest titles for a book! I just love me a good romcom by one of my favorite authors, Meghan Quinn. Her humor has me rolling on the floor with a stomach ache from laughing so hard. This story had plenty of laughs, heartbreaking angst, and crazy good love!

Bram Scott is a book boyfriend who will make many a reader swoon. I found it impossible not to fall in love with his character. The lengths he goes to in order to win Julia’s heart are what make him one of the most loveable book boyfriends.

Julia, however, was an extremely frustrating character. It took me a very long time to warm up to her character. I get that her insecurity was a huge factor in why she was so closed off emotionally, but this woman is supposed to be highly intelligent and I didn’t get how she could be so blind to what was right in front of her the whole time. Her stubbornness had me wanting to throw my iPad against the wall a few times.

But Bram is a pretty amazing Hero and when things started to take off between them, my frustration started to diminish, however, if you are a true romance fan, then you know that the happy floating on a cloud times are usually temporary and something ultimately will come along to put the couple's love for each other to the test. I was right back to disliking Julia again and I knew if she did not make some sort of grand gesture to prove her love for Bram, this was going to be the first time I didn’t love a Meghan Quinn book. Thankfully, Meghan knew what she had to do to make me happy!!

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 5+++++++
Heroine: 3
Plot: 4
Angst: 4.5
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5

THE SECRET TO DATING YOUR BEST FRIEND’s SISTER releases on January 3rd! I predict we are in for another superb series by the amazing Meghan Quinn!!

I always know that when I pick up a book by Meghan Quinn that I'm guaranteed some rib busting laughs and tons of swoon-worthy moments. This story did not disappoint! It was sweet and charming and the characters were so endearing and relatable that it was impossible to avoid loving it.

In all honesty, there was really only one character I couldn't stand - Julia. She was entirely too hard to stomach and I had to grit my teeth just to get through her chapters. She reminded me of an ostrich with its head in the sand. How can you go through life, in this day and age, and not have a clue to reality? Your entire love life hinges on a color? I get that it was her life's work, but c'mon! If I had a dude giving me his ALL the way this one did, I would not be throwing up road blocks and creating obstacles.

That being said, all four stars go to Bram. He was absolutely incredible. The epitome of what a hero should be. Intelligent, successful, attractive, hilarious, down to Earth, humble, kind, sensitive, loyal, honorable, sweet, considerate, patient, understanding, etc. When a man like this tells you that YOU are everything he could ever want, that YOU are his one, that YOU own his heart, YOU have won the freaking lottery. Know this.

So yeah, MQ created a story that was very easy to get behind and a hero that I wish was real. I'm not a man stealer, but if he really existed and he happened to be with someone, I'd stoop to some levels that I didn't know I was capable of 🙈😉😂

Meghan Quinn is one of my most favorite authors, her new book, The Secret to Dating Your Best Friends Sister, is a fun, sweet read you will not want to miss.

I fell in love with Bram and Julia. I wanted so badly for them to find their HEA, I read this one slowly, It was over the holidays, so my reading was here and there but by the end, I was left with a big ole smile on my face.

Keeping this one short, but sharing one of my favorite banters between these two 😜

Bram: So . . . do I get a good morning? How’s your dick? Did it fall off from blue balls?

Julia: You’re impossible.

Bram: I’m waiting . . .

Julia: [eye-roll emoji] Good morning, Bram. Did your dick fall off last night?

Bram: Almost, but I patted the old guy and told him you’re worth the wait.

This book is a true gem among the stones. I loved it to pieces

Meghan Quinn has a way of adding sparkle to every single book she writes. This is exactly why she is my go to author. Whether I am looking for a book that will make me laugh or one that will pull at my heartstrings I always know I can find it within her novels. In her latest book she brought me feelings of joy and excitement. I loved reading about Bram's journey to finding love with his best friends sister and the way he goes about the process. I say process because the woman he has been pining over since college is also a PHD holder and a dating expert. How cool is that? If you're looking for a swoony, lighthearted, and humor filled novel this is a must read for your 2019 TBR. I think many readers are going to fall head over heels for Jules and Bram while also secretly hoping that a few secondary characters get their own story too.

I am going to leave my review short and sweet because I don't want to ruin the plot for those who plan on reading it. In fact, the book can be easily loved by going in blind. It's always fun to go into a book knowing nothing about it but falling in love anyway. I will say though that it is a fantastic novel of somewhat forbidden love (best friend's sister) that has it's sexy moments! So make sure to grab a copy. You can PREORDER A COPY TODAY and get it when it goes live at midnight on January 3rd!

I've discovered four things: you need to transition your girl from being only your best friend's sister to being the woman you can't live without- your life mate ; you must ensure said life mate feels valued and treasured by respecting who she is and what she's about; odd as it may seem, appreciate tube socks- no matter how they're worn- and know they always need their own drawer; and finally, don't be a prideful dickhead. Know that love is worth fighting for, because when your heart beats to the same rhythm, that's where true wealth is found.

Why I took so long to read this book, I do not know. I love the best-friends-little-sister trope and I one-clicked this on release day but then I got distracted by other books and ended up not reading it. Which I'm kicking myself for now because I loved Bram! He was so adorable and I really enjoyed that it was his character pursuing the heroine instead of the other way around. Overall, just a really fun story to read and I easily fell in love with these characters. I can't wait to get Rath's book now.

Ohhh, this book! I loved it!
This was a no-brainer for me because I've loved everything that I've read by Meghan Quinn. She's my go-to "feel-good" author. She always delivers the laughs and the sexy times! Whenever I finish one of her books I have a smile on my face.

This one is about real estate mogul Bram, and matchmaker Julia. Bram is a few years older than Julia--they met at Yale where Bram is best friends with Julia's brother Rath. Bram's always liked the nerdy, introverted, tube sock wearing(!) quirky but beautiful Julia, and looked out for her like a brother. But after years of dating hundreds (!) of women, he has an epiphany of sorts and realizes that Julia is the one for him. But how does he go about convincing her? They've always had a teasing/antagonistic relationship with moments of sweet friendship, but Julia's never been on the receiving end of Bram's romantic interest. How does he approach her? Would she be ready for a relationship with him now, after she has established herself in the business world--is she ready for the next step in life? Can he convince her that he's serious?

Ohhhh, the sexual tension that just pours off the pages in this one! How Bram goes about insinuating himself into Julia's life is clever--he convinces her that he wants to take her matchmaker 'program'--what color are you?--so she can find him the perfect mate. This is all just a ruse so he can spend some time with Julia. It seems like kind of a round-about way to get her attention, but it works!

I don't want to say any more--there are a few twists (Bram is a 'red'--oh no!) and turns and misunderstandings (that fortunately, don't go on too long). But what surprised me was how long it took for Bram and Julia to actually 'get physical'. I swear I was 75% into the book and they hadn't done it yet--but who cares? Their chemistry was off the charts and half the fun was seeing them build and build and build towards it and then BOOM!! The heat was turned up 100 degrees!
I can't remember having read a book with such an explosive/satisfying payoff! Wooo….

Loved it loved it loved it!
I hope there is a second and third book planned for Bram's friends Rath and Roark (gotta love these names) because they each are just begging for stories of their own!

One huge satisfied smile here--5 big stars!

This is fun read! The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend's Sister is rom com. Miss Quinn took a swipe to all of that best friend's sister romance out there that it is not that forbidden. And I agree.

Bram is such a sweetheart. He has this romance layer going on inside of him. Like many Miss Quinn heroes, Bram is sensitive. I like sensitive man as much as I enjoy my alpha man.

The banter and Bram's effort to woo Julia cracks me up. So much sensitivity.

Overall a wonderful read.

Sultry, entertaining, and sweet!

The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister is a passionate, charming tale that mixes the caring, hardworking Julia who’s determined to use all her knowledge and expertise to find the perfect match for her brother’s best friend, and the delectable, successful Bram who has finally decided to take the risk and act on his feelings for his best friend’s little sister.

The writing is titillating and crisp. The characters, including all the supporting characters, are fun-loving and engaging. And the plot sweeps you away into a sassy, push-pull storyline filled with witty banter, shameless flirting, sizzling chemistry, friendship, family, romance, and light drama.

Overall, The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister is a fabulous read to kick off the new year. I enjoyed the characters, I enjoyed the storyline, and I loved the swoon-worthy happy-ever-after ending!

Thank you to InkSlingerPR and Meghan Quinn for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Starting the new year off with a new release by one of my favorite authors and damn it was a good one! So I think it's pretty clear by now how much I adore Meghan Quinn's books. Like I would read her grocery list if she published it and I'm sure it would be just as funny as all her other books. The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend's Sister was no different so if you love a good rom-com, you're gonna wanna keep reading.

What do you do when you're in love with your best friend's little sister but you're afraid of losing your best friend and possible the love of your life by admitting your true feelings? Well, you lose a bet to said best friend so you can sign up for his little sister's dating program so you can then somehow charm your way into her life and make her see that you two were meant to be. Sounds easy, right? That's what Bram Scott thought, but a girl like Julia Westin is gonna require a lot more than just "charm" to win her over.

Can I just say that gosh this title is a mouthful to say and type. I've reverted to copy and pasting the title because ain't nobody got time for all that! Okay jokes aside, the title itself is pretty self-explanatory and basically is a give away for the plot of the book. I admit, I have a love/hate relationship with this particular trope but it worked for me in this book. I was hooked right away and it's all because of Bram. I don't know how she does it, but Meghan is forever creating new heroes for me to fall in love with and now Bram's name can be added to that list. I love Bram's personality and his heart. He's kind of this cocky guy who always thinks he's right but at the same time he's considerate and patient and kind. He has a big heart and a damn lot of patience because he waited ten years to finally make his move on the one girl who always owned that big heart of his. Julia on the other hand took a bit longer to warm up to, but that's because she has these wall put up and it took quite a few chapters until we get to see those walls break down. Once she was willing to let herself see that being with a guy like Bram could in fact be a reality, she started to let her true self shine and I loved seeing her open up! The romance itself is angsty but so goddamn funny. Bram and Julia are complete opposites but they work so well together because he makes her feel comfortable and safe and she grounds him and keeps his ego in check. The dialogue had me on the floor, especially one particular scene with Bram, Julia and Julia's older brother, Rath. These three together are just a riot. One thing I will note about the romance is that it is a slow-burning one, but considering Bram has waited ten years to make his move, I'm sure we can all make it through a few more chapters until the fireworks are set off. Overall, The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend's Sister was an angsty, sweet and entertaining read and a great book to start my new year off with! I low key hope some of the secondary characters in this book end up getting their own stories because I need the tea on their love lives and I think they deserve happily-ever-afters too!

Bram has had a crush on his best friend’s little sister, Julia since they met in college. Back then, Bram was a frat boy and Julia was the quiet, studious type. She won him over with a pair of tube socks and when he asks her out, he gets flat out denied.

Now 10-years later, Bram purposely loses a bet with his best friends...the “punishment?” Bram has to sign up for Julia’s dating service, which he hopes will get him closer to her. So over the next several weeks, Julia & Bram spend more and more time together and Bram wants nothing more than for Julia to see him as more than her brother’s best friend.

But when Julia starts setting Bram up on dates, he’s forced to reveal his feelings for her yet again. Only will he get denied a decade later or is Julia finally ready to open her heart to the man who’s been in front of her all along?

The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister by Meghan Quinn is book 1 in The Bromance Club series. I loved this book so much! Bram may be one of my new favorite heroes—he’s sexy as hell, charming beyond belief and he’s sweet as pie. The perfect trio in my opinion. I loved the flashbacks to Julia & Bram’s time in college back to where it all began. The flashbacks also give you an insight into the bromance between Bram, Roark & Rath. Aside from the romance, the bromance between them is so fun to read about. I love how Julia is so much different than Bram but the two complement each other so well. Definitely a swoon-worthy, laugh-out-loud romance! 5/5 stars.

‘And just like that, I feel my heart leap out of my chest and right into Julia’s hands. She holds it; she has it all to herself. But I don’t think she realizes that mine beats because of her—that she has the potential to crush it more than anyone else in my life—and I hope she doesn’t throw it back at me. Ever.’

Meghan Quinn certainly knows how to woo us with her male characters. We’ve fallen in love with many over the years, but we think the sexy, funny and oh so gorgeous Bram Scott might just be one of our favourites. The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister is a friends to lover’s rom com with a major swoon factor and some real proper laugh out loud moments.

‘If I were a cartoon, I would have red hearts constantly floating over my head, letting everyone know around me that I’m a damn fool who’s lost his heart to his best friend’s sister.’

Apart from the romance between Bram and Julia (Jules), there’s a bromance between Julia’s brother Rath and Bram, that’s a sweet as it is funny, and this, together with the banter between Bram and his PA Linus, consider your funny bone well and truly tickled! So yes, there’s much to love about this book and dare we say, we think the side characters and their interaction with Bram may just have edged out the romance factor as our favourite thing about this story. Oh, how we loved Bram when he went headfirst into woo mode to finally try and win over Julia, but the side-splitting moments between the buddies and the banter between Linus and Bram really did hit the spot.

Bram Scott has held a torch for his best friend Rath’s sister, Julia since their college days. The story is set in the present with sporadic flashbacks to their college years and the moments that left their mark on Bram’s heart. Bram’s decided it’s time to finally woo Jules, and he thinks he has the foolproof plan to do it. Or ha he? Bram wants to prove to Jules he’s no longer the beer guzzling good time guy of his college years, but a refined (yeah, sure Bram!) successful self-made millionaire who knows what he wants, and he wants Jules and he intends to do whatever it takes to win her over.

“….focus on keeping that door to your heart open, because I’m about to sweep you off your pretty little feet.”

We adored Bram – he had this naughty boy quality in a sexy as hell body, together with a killer smile and a personality that outshone his physical attributes, and when he set about romancing Jules, he set our hearts on fire. Talk about passion and romance! This guy had it in spades!

Whilst we did love so much about this book, there were moments we became frustrated with Julia and her pragmatic ways. Honestly, how much convincing did she need about Bram. A blind man could see he was the one for her, and for too long she let her head rule her heart, much to our annoyance and made the story drag a little.

‘He is an amazing and unique man, but I won’t ever allow him into my heart, not if I wish to keep it intact.’

In saying that, Meghan Quinn sure knows how to delight a reader with warmth and wit, and she sure delivered a funny, sexy, swoony and sweet read in The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister. This book is everything you could wish for in a rom-com. Now, please, please Meghan Quinn, please tell us Rath and Roark McCool will be getting a book because we’ll be all over those! We’re dying for more!

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝'𝐬 𝐒𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 by Meghan Quinn is an absolutely charming romantic comedy that will surround your heart with ALL THE FEELS! It’s a delightful and entertaining friends-to-lovers romance that will make you blush, laugh, and swoon for days! Falling in love with your best friend's sister might not be the smartest thing to do, but that fact doesn’t stop our hero from trying his damnedest to win her heart. OMG! Everything about Bram and Julia’s romance melted my heart. I was hooked from beginning to end and once I turned the last page, I wanted to experience it ALL OVER AGAIN! It had the best BROMANCE I’ve ever seen in a romantic comedy and the happily ever after was to die for! For me, Meghan Quinn is the true queen of romantic comedy!

I am a SUCKER for a good rom/com and Meghan Quinn has a knack for writing the right balance of humor, fun, sexy, and snark that makes her books a delight to read and The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister (yep, that’s a mouthful) was a delight to read.

Bram was one of those heroes who jumps off the page and into your heart almost from the start. While there was no doubt the man was a bit misguided, his heart was in the right place and he was dedicated to winning the heart of his best friend’s sister without anyone else knowing. Despite not being a huge lover of flashbacks, the ones in this book gave readers such insight into these character’s backgrounds and the times they spent together in college and the incidents that have made Bram realize that no matter how many women he tried to forget Julia with it was never going to work because there was no one like her.

Julia is the reason this book wasn’t a 5 star book and really I toyed with making it 4 stars because despite being brilliant, her inability to look past her research and look into her heart frustrated me to no end and while I appreciate she had absolute faith in her work, her inability to see anything but black and white made it difficult for me to love her. I did like her and I got that she was pretty much an introvert, but and while highly intelligent she lacked a lot of common sense social skills.

I had to hand it to Bram because although his plan was a bit flawed in the end it did get him what he wanted and that was spending time with Julia and letting her really get to know the man he’s become and for him to get some insight into her life. While they spent some time together with Rath being his best friend and her big brother, their interactions were limited and she always seemed to barely tolerate him which I believe was actually her trying to hide her attraction to him. I loved how during the course on her interviewing him for her matchmaking skills, he made sure she understood everything he would put into a relationship and everything anyone who was involved with him could expect which amped up the attraction between them and added to the slow burn of their romance.

Told from dual points of view, I feel that readers will gain great insight into both of these characters and their motivations for the way they live their lives and approach their relationships. This book would not have been the same without the supporting characters and I feel confident that at some point we will see Rath, Roark, and hopefully Linus again in the future.

Fun and flirty with whole lot of sexiness thrown in for good measure, Meghan Quinn is your gal if you enjoy a good rom/com and The Secret to Dating My Best Friend’s Sister is pretty much perfect.

If I ever doubted this author and her ability to write before I sure don't now. Not that I ever really did. Yet, I keep thinking to myself she cannot stay perfect but after this book, she might have elevated to that status. She took it to a whole new level with this story. There was still the humor, and feisty females, and chemistry to knock my socks off in addition to another AMAZING cover. However, there was something new to this book. There was a vulnerability in it with both characters. even amidst the humor and funny snarky undertones it was there.

I think that is why I adored Bram the way that I did. He wasn't alpha (sure he was confident but not in a smug way), nor did he have a mouth so filthy that it would take a lifetime of soap to clean out. Instead, he was genuine and true. He was resolved in knowing that Julia, Jules to him, was the finish line. She was everything. I adored seeing him unabashed in going to any lengths to show him that. Julia, sweet lord this girl. I adored her and her quirky characteristics. Together they truly were the perfect match. I didn't need certain colors to match them up to know this. They just clicked. I loved how they interacted with each other and tried to trick the other in confessing things to catch the other in a lie. This book isn't on the steamy side and didn't have it until much later in the book so keep that in mind if you are looking for something with a lot of sex. Sometimes the anticipation is much better than reading every other page of steam and that is true in this case.

There were so many humorous moments in the story. I won't give spoilers but can I just say that I will always think of this author when I see or hear about a dragon? I was rolling. In true fashion, this author has woven her magical unicorn spell over me and I am enchanted. There is a reason she is my go-to RomCom author.

***5 ‘Milkshakes & Tube Socks’ Stars***

Ok. Question first?

Who else winced while reading steps one through three??

Anyone? Anyone?

Cause I sure as shit did. Because even I knew that the pitfalls could be varied and many and bring about all kinds of issues, but even as I was wincing I was already needing to see how everything played out with Bram and Julia and I wasn’t disappointed in anyway. I winced, I laughed, I rolled my eyes and I swooned as these two danced around and towards each other ~ slowly, Oh, so, slowly ~ and was kind of unhappy that there were no more words to read because I really wanted to spend more time with both of them and find out what else they’d be getting up to.

I loved Julia and Bram. Julia is that compelling mix of shy, thoughtful sassy and snarky with a good dose of an extremely observant wallflower (most of the time). She finds solace in facts and logic, which sometimes blind her to the most obvious things and yet, she isn’t removed from the world or emotions, she just holds them at arm’s length. Bram is cocky and yet he owns it to such an extent that after awhile it comes off as endearing more than arrogant ~ though there are times where that line is very, very fine. He’s charming and intelligent and has an extremely golden heart that he shares with only those he calls his own.

Julia and Bram’s journey to their HEA was a whole lot of slow burn/opposites attract goodness. Part of the fun was that while they were friends, they still didn’t KNOW each other, so watching as they truly got to know each other was a lot of fun. And though it was all kinds of slow burn, the chemistry between them was intense, so when things finally stopped being slow, it was all kinds of smexy goodness and just showed that they were a perfect match in every way. As for the roadblock in their journey, as far as I’m concerned they were both right and wrong. I saw both sides of the issue and couldn’t blame either for their feelings. Thankfully, they both figure things out and loved where they ended up.

I’m a #fangirl of the author’s, and while I do love her more serious side, her RomComs are my catnip and this one was all kinds of awesomeness. From the way the story played out to the interesting situations that occur throughout the story to Julia and Bram themselves, this was a great story. But, the cherry on top of this sundae belongs to three of the supporting cast of characters. Roarke, Rath and Linus were kind of everything. These three brought so much to the story, I’m crossing my toes that they will be getting their own books down the road because I simply NEED more of all of them!

Predictable.

The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend's Sister is one long ass title. It's about a forbidden kind of romance, best friend dating your sister kind. In it, you will meet Bram and Julia. Their bantering was cute.. but they were so freaking frustrating. Well, okay Julie was the frustrating character. Bram.. was just Bram if I'm being completely honest.

Their romance was meh. Nothing really stuck out to me but I ended up still finishing this book. I don't know what Bram saw in Julia.. because she's dumber than a rock. I don't understand why she was acting the way that she was in this book. Again, frustrating - super super frustrating.

Overall, it was cute and predictable. I'm glad that I'm done with it.
