@NanooksVB's Wong Named to Preseason All-GNAC Team

PORTLAND, Ore. –
On Wednesday, the Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced its 2018 Volleyball Preseason All-Conference Team, which featured junior middle blocker Kim Wong.

Wong becomes the first Alaska player to earn a preseason honor under fourth-year head coach Brian Scott. Wong was named an All-GNAC Honorable Mention for the Nanooks following the 2017 season, marking her second conference honor.

Wong appeared in each of Alaska's 29 matches last season, starting 20 of those matches and playing in 106 sets. Wong closed out the 2017 campaign by ranking sixth in the GNAC in hitting percentage with a .306. The Spokane, Washington native tallied 172 kills last season, averaging 1.62 kills per set.

At the net, Wong ranked second among her teammates in blocking, averaging 0.53 blocks per set. Won also tallied 11 solo blocks and 45 block assists for a total of 56 throughout the season. Additionally, Wong tallied four assists, four service aces and 19 digs.

Wong finished the 2017 season with double-digit kills on four occasions, led by her 15 kills against Central Washington on Oct. 28.

Currently, Wong sits third on Alaska Nanooks' All-Time Leaders list for attack percentage (minimum 100 attempts) per one season (.306) and third in individual career records for attack percentage (minimum 100 per season) with a .255 since joining the Nanooks in 2016.

The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team will continue exhibition play this weekend, as they take on the UAF Volleyball Alumni at the Alaska Airlines Court on Saturday, Aug. 18. First serve is scheduled for 7pm AKT.
