(KUTV) - The Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter made a middle-of-the-night rescue on Mt. Olympus in Salt Lake County as a search and rescue team worked to reach an injured hiker.

The 35-year-old male hiker became stuck after he suffered a leg injury on a steep and rocky area of Mt. Olympus Friday night.

According to a Facebook post from Salt Lake County Search and Rescue, a team was deployed just before 11 p.m. and was able to get close enough to the man to speak to him. The team reported he was stuck in a spot that had become very slippery in Friday night's rain storm.

The search team guided the DPS chopper into place near Geurt's Ridge at an altitude of approximately 7500 feet above sea level. The DPS helicopter team was able to extract the man and fly him off the mountain around 3:40 a.m. Saturday.

The helicopter then made it's way back up the mountain to extract the search-and-rescue team.

The man's injury appeared to be minor, according to authorities.

Salt Lake County Search and Rescue posted video of the helicopter rescue on its Facebook page Saturday.
