Fire truck caused El Paso Streetcar service to be temporarily unavailable

EL PASO, Texas (CBS4) — CBS4 has learned what caused the streetcar service to be suspended Friday.

A supervisor confirmed that a fire truck that belongs to El Paso Fire Department struck a pole causing it to fall onto the overhead contact system for the El Paso Streetcar around 8:50 a.m.

Officials with the Fire Department said the fire truck damaged an art installation in front of the Providence Memorial Campus.

Service was suspended in the Uptown portion of the route for the streetcars but operation has resumed as of 4:30 p.m.

The streetcar downtown loop was stopped for one hour and 45 minutes.

An alert sent out Friday morning stated an incident happened in the Uptown Loop near Oregon and Blanchard Avenue.

Sun Metro officials told CBS4 the "incident" that happened affected the overhead contact system.

No injuries were reported.

An official with the EPPD said the wreck is under investigation.

Crews are still working to fix the damage in front of the Hospitals of Providence (Children's Hospital).
