I was Banished.

Kicked out of my own pack and left to face the world and the demons that lurked in its shadows alone. Nothing and no one scared me. I was a warrior, trained to kill. I was a stealthy weapon, crafted to take down even the most frightening of enemies.

Except her.

Nothing I did could stop her. She was a dangerous beauty, a lethal being with a destructive secret and she was being hunted for it. I was no hero, but I lived for the thrill of the fight. I killed them all one by one as they came for her, each kill satisfying my need to release my pent-up anger. I did it for me, not for her. I didn’t care what they wanted with her, didn’t care that they were after her or that she was frightened by them. I only cared about my need to fight and feel their life slip away at my own hands.

Once they were all dead, I would be rid of her. I didn’t need my pack or her to make it on my own. I was a survivor. I would make it through the world without the help or support of anyone I had once called family.

I was a Lone Wolf.

NOAH!!! OH EM GEE IT’S NOAH!!

Noah is on the run just trying to stay one step ahead. After his betrayal to the pack in what he thought was a noble move to save his family ended in him being banished. He has no time for any entanglements or complications like the one the girl in the alley presents to him. When he finds himself drawn to her and wanting to protect her it’s not without a fight though.

Gabrielle has lived a quiet life with her plants and her brother. Gard has sworn to protect her from the people they call family. When a trip goes wrong and creepy things hunt them down she finds herself alone. It’s in this cold dark alley she meets Noah who becomes a protector albeit begrudgingly. They discover things about each other and realize two is better than one.

I have always been intrigued by Noah. He’s such a dark horse and outcast and I love that. He’s not easy that’s for sure. You get some insight to his thoughts that we haven’t seen before. I like Gabrielle I think she has a certain spark. These two together was a spark that could burn down a whole city if they let it or at least entangle it in vines.

My only issue with this story is that it’s not long enough but that’s a novella for you. It’s just enough to hook you and go I can’t wait for more.

Noah hasn't had much to live for since he was banished from his family and home. He has basically been doing whatever he had to to survive and also maybe things he didn't have to do just to release his anger. He definitely never figured he would meet someone like Gabrielle and never counted on her being special in more ways than one.
This whole series has been one of the best series I've ever read. I've said this in every review I've written about this series but I'll say it again...I don't normally read this genre but this series has kept me totally and completely sucked in since page one of the very first book! I absolutely love all the characters and each one ends up having a unique storyline. Noah's character went from someone I really didn't like to a character that was a lot more understood after reading his novella. You really get to hear his point of view and you get an insight to his thoughts and why he did the things he did even though they were wrong. I can't wait to read the next book in the series and if you haven't read them then your missing out!!

Oh Noah! My poor troubled Noah! I’ve been intrigued by him and was excited for his story, HL delivered and I was not disappointed! He held so much anger, especially after being banished from his home and family. Then he met Gabrielle. I loved her outlook and attitude. The two of them together are definitely a force to be reckoned with. We get some insight into his thoughts and feelings, explanation for his actions. This book was exciting and filled with action.
I am very excited for the next book to see where everything goes!

*If you haven't read the other books in this series stop reading this review and go read them now! You'll thank me. *
Starting this story I was ready to continue to hate Noah. I saw him as a trader. He was selfish. And his actions caused lives to be lost. But as I read this story my opinion, no matter how stubborn I was, started to change. Like his sister Davina (who I originally didn't like) I now understand Noah. He definitely made bad choices. And he is living with the consequences. Then he does something he didn't plan to do. He helps a woman named Gabrielle. He learns that she isn't a regular person that he usually despises. And who is after her is nothing that he has ever experienced. Now they are on the run together and slowly but surely she is thawing his heart.
I hate to say it but now I am a Noah fan. I want him to be forgiven. I want him to be happy. I want him to be able to go home. That just shows what an amazing author HL Girton is. She makes you feel one way in one book and then totally makes you change your mind in another. This series is such an adventure. And I love it! These novellas are killing me, though. I need more!

If you haven’t read the “Accalia” series, I would strongly suggest that you do prior to picking up this novella (it can be read as a standalone, but you would enjoy it even more if it all fell into context; plus, the series is so good that you definitely don’t want to miss out on them!). As a reader, I always tend to gravitate more towards antagonists, renegades, and baddies. So, “The Lone Wolf,” which is told from a point of view of such an outcast (and a traitor as everyone in his own family sees him anyway) was certainly right up my alley. The setting of Paris and then London, with their dingy, dangerous streets crawling with odd creatures at night, was a marvelous addition to an already fascinating story. The inner thoughts and motives of Noah were also so interesting to follow as it finally allowed me into his mind and helped me better understand what moved him to do what he did in the first place. Definitely a five star read and I’m hoping for the continuation of the story (those mysterious new creatures intrigued me to no end, but no more spoilers!).

Must read Series!

Noah has been my favorite character since the first book. He is mysterious, full of anger but there is a lot more to him. Banished and trying to survive he saves Gabrielle from an attacker. Scared and alone Gabrielle follows Noah looking for protection. Like Noah she has secrets that will put her in danger. Together they are stronger than being apart and decisions have to be made.
I am totally amazed by H.L. Girton's writing since I started this series with The Accalia. Each book will keep you at the edge of your seat and you just can't stop reading. Each book is well written with a strongly developed storyline. Grab the book, find a quiet place and get lost in the world of The Lone Wolf.

I so love the world this author has created. This novella is the story of Noah, the most misunderstand character in this world. He has been expelled from the pack and is in exile in Europe but he still dreams of returning to Oregon. As selfish as he has been all his life, he can't help but assist a young girl when he watches her brother get killed. Their relationship grows as he tries to save her from her enemies. This is a new side to Noah that makes one love him. I hope the author expands his character in future stories.

The Lone Wolf is a novella companion to the Accalia Series and I would recommend reading the main series before this novella, yes you can read this as a stand-a-lone but you will get more backstory reading the other first. I really hated Noah going into this book and wanted to continue to hate him BUT I could not find it in myself to hate him after I read this story. He did bad things and made bad choices but is is paying for that and the way he handled and tried to help Gabrielle in this book went a long way to redemption for him.

Who Knew?

H L Girton you my dear are an evil genius. My love hate relationship meter has been broken by this one! Wow! What a way to pack a punch into a novella! I didn’t realize Noah had that much passion in him. He always seemed so hard and cold. Happy he has found his. Can’t wait until he gets home to see what’s what with the goings on of the pack.
