ReFig Board Game Design Workshop

This diversity-friendly workshop is the second part of a series of beginners workshops.

Description: Boardgame design is collaborative, expressive, and fun! In this workshop, boardgame designer, Robin David O'Keeffe, will introduce participants to some new and exciting boardgames, giving a chance to play and leading a discussion on what makes modern boardgaming both exciting and unique. In small groups, participants will then produce their own games, taking advantage of their own skill sets - be that art, storytelling, music, or just about anything.

Maynooth Media Studies and An Foras Feasa -
Media Studies at NUIM offers BA degrees in Media Studies and Digital Media as well as the MA in Radio and Television Production. ### Mission Media Studies at NUI Maynooth prepares undergraduate and graduate students for lives and careers in a world in which media have become central to nearly every social, political and aesthetic activity. Students use their academic training in media studies at NUIM to make art, to engage with media industries, to purse research in academia, and to make policy. ### Description The study of media is a wide-ranging activity; the development of media channels, technologies and systems is wrapped up in the development of the societies we currently live in and how we live in them. Media Studies examines how mediated communication works through language and images, through particular technologies organised in political and economic systems, and for audiences that can be part of a shared public that lives with and uses media forms in diverse ways. Any one of these areas can form the basis for deep questioning and research, yet it is rare that one area can be – or should be – considered in isolation from the others. At NUIM we offer degree programmes in Media Studies and Digital Media at both a graduate and postgraduate level.
Gamedevelopers.ie -
We are a volunteer run project that exists to help local game developers both inside and outside of the industry to network, communicate and publicise their work. We also provide a range of resources, including research and reports on the local industry. Launched in 2003, in 2014 the site was redesigned to take audiovisual content and integrate with social media. You are now visiting version 3 of the site, which is still in development.
ReFIG -
Refiguring Innovation in Games (ReFiG) is a 5 year project supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Composed of an international collective of scholars, community organizers and industry representatives, ReFiG is committed to promoting diversity and equity in the game industry and culture and effecting real change in a space that has been exclusionary to so many. We can (and will) do this by intervening in 4 areas: game cultures, the games industry, informal learning environments (e.g. community-based incubators), and formal education (e.g. degree and certificate programs in game studies and game design).
GameCraft Foundation -
GameCraft is a games jam event designed around building the gaming community. We aim to create events which allow game-makers to meet, share ideas, have fun, compete for prizes and most importantly make games!
