The thief had been turned away by the shop earlier as he had no cash.

Higgins wrestled his victim to the deck before making off with his bags - which included a pizza supper and cans of bevvy.

Prosecutor Jennifer Harkins told Glasgow Sheriff Court how Higgins "put his arms around Fletcher's neck" before hoisting him to the ground and nicking his bags.

Cops searched the area with their dog unit.

And Ms Harkins said: "Higgins was tracked hiding in a garden trying to feed the pizza and two cans of Tennent's Lager to the dog."

Bigot Higgins then went on to lob abuse at officers.

Ms Harkins added: "He made remarks of ‘Dirty f****n b*****d, f*** the Pope and the IRA, as well as shove your cross up your a****.

"He also said: 'There’s no black on the Union Jack'."

The yob admitted to assault and robbery and his sentence has been deferred until next month.

Craig Grimes, defending, said: "He is ashamed of what happened and was just shouting angry words."
