The Jaguar XE is perhaps one of the most forgotten sports sedans in the compact luxury segment. The XE sold just over 9,000 units in 2017, a stark contrast to the 60,000 units of the 3 Series that BMW sold in the same year. Jaguar knows the XE is in need of a refresh and a facelifted model should be arriving for the 2020 model year.

Our spy photographers have captured the facelifted XE testing, and from the exterior, it is clear this will be more of a minor refresh than a total redesign.

The prototype is heavily camouflaged, so Jaguar could still be hiding something special. We don't expect the XE to change drastically - perhaps some slimmer LED headlights in the front and rear and minor changes to the bumper design. On the interior, the infotainment system will likely receive some updates, though we doubt the XE will adopt the new dual-screen layout from the I-Pace and Range Rover Velar.

Jaguar may also add semi-autonomous features, which could be a selling point for some buyers.

The biggest change isn't what's on the outside or in the interior, it's what will sit under the hood. Currently, the XE is powered by either a turbocharged four-cylinder gas or diesel engine, or a supercharged V6. Jaguar has reportedly been working on a new inline-six to replace the current V6, and we may get to see it on this refreshed XE.

The inline-six could be paired to a mild-hybrid setup, producing various levels of power (anywhere from 300 horsepower up to 500). Expect to see the facelifted XE at the 2019 Geneva Car Show, next March.
