ECAC Announces 2018 Division III Women's Volleyball All-ECAC
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2018 Division III Women's Volleyball All-ECAC Team & major award winners.
Juniata College headlines ECAC major awards as Marybeth Weihbrecht claims Offensive Player of the Year and Heather Pavlik takes home Coach of the Year. Kate Isaksen from Clarkson University earns her second consecutive Defensive Player of the Year honor. Finishing off the major awards is Taylor Gilbertson from United Sates Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) being voted Rookie of the Year.
Weihbrecht, was named Offensive Player of the Year after recording a hitting percentage of .417, second best in the country. She was also named AVCA First Team All-American as well as AVCA East Region Player of the Year. She was second on the team in kills per set (2.68), total blocks (61), solo blocks (14) and block assists (47). She was third on the team in kills with 204.
Kate Isaksen earns her second consecutive Defensive Player of the Year. She led the nation in total digs (901) and was second in digs per set at 7.97. She was named AVCA First-Team All-American and AVCA New York Region Player of the Year as well as Liberty League First-Team. Isaksen was also named ECAC Division III North Defensive Player of the Month twice.
Gilbertson had a terrific freshman year totaling 268 kills for an average of 4.25 kills per set. She was named AVCA All-American Honorable Mention as well as the AVCA All-Northeast Region Rookie of the Year. She was all named to the Skyline Conference First-Team and won Rookie of the Year for the conference as well. The first year Outside Hitter ranked fifth in the nation in points per set with 5.13 and her kills per set mark was ranked eleventh.
Heather Pavlik led Juniata to a 28-4 record this season. Amongst those 28 wins the team won 26 straight as they made an NCAA Final Four Appearance. In the beginning of 2018 Pavlik won her 200th career game. Her team had nine all-conference award winners, six all-region and five All-Americans. On top of the ECAC recognition Pavlik was named Landmark Conference Coach of the Year and AVCA Regional Coach of the Year.
