Match report We arrived at E&B CC after along journey to find a very slow looking outfield, and a what looked like a ragged pitch - so thought we would have a low scoring game... Unfortunately the Emmbrook openers didn't share that view, and went for it in the first few overs - hitting 102-0 off the first 15 overs till drinks. The drinks break had re-energised Oliver Cupit though, and he bowled two successive identical beauties to send the bails flying. We thought the wickets might tumble then, but the other opener went on to make a ton, as did his incoming partner. Skipper James Newbury tried to mix up the bowling (using nine different bowlers), and there were great catches from Michael Cooper and Jack Stark, but at the end of their 47 overs E&B had amassed a daunting total of 321.
Fraser Chapman and Mark Channer set about chasing it down, and were well ahead of the required rate after the first ten overs. However a couple of quick wickets fell, and it was left to Michael Cooper to anchor the innings and salvage a draw. Michael batted beautifully, and was extremely unlucky to inside edge one on to his stumps and fall one short of a ton. He had been well supported by Jack Stark and Jordan Essex. It was left to skipper James Newbury and Sam Harris to see out the last four overs, which they did expertly. Sam even hit a couple of great fours through a very close field.
So the game ended in a creditable draw, with the E&B captain ruing the fact that he hadn't declared a few overs early. Another great all round performance from the team - well done guys!
