Scots tycoon Michelle Mone slated over patchy House of Lords record and branded ‘pointless’ by Nats MSP

The Tory peer, 47, attended just 12 per cent of days over the last parliament year and missed a Brexit vote

MICHELLE Mone was slated for her patchy House of Lords record after attending just 12 per cent of days over the last parly year.

The bra tycoon — now Baroness Mone of Mayfair — was called “pointless” as it emerged she turned up for 19 days out of a possible 157 and missed key dates including a Brexit vote.

Meanwhile the Tory peer, 47, shared pics of herself online on holiday in hotspots like Monaco and Caribbean isle St Barts.

Nats MSP Rona Mackay said: “She is the ultimate poster girl for the abolition of the Lords and is incr-easingly an embarrassment to the Scottish Tories and Ruth Davidson.

“While Westminster politics faces the chaos and financial ruin of Brexit — one of its toughest challe-nges for generations — she’s been missing in action, sunning herself in St Barts.

“Lady Mone is a pointless peer and a ludicrous waste of public money. Little wonder there are fresh calls for the Lady of Mayfair to resign.”

The Ultimo founder — who last week announced a business tie-up with Apple pioneer Steve Wozniak — joined tycoons like Lord Sugar and Baroness Brady in the upper chamber in 2015.

When elevated by PM David Cameron the Glasgow busin-esswoman vowed: “I look forward to playing a full and active role in your Lordships’ House.”

But figures released by the Lords show she didn’t turn up in December last year and this July.

On February 5, peers debated the role of women in public life and the progress made in raising their parliament representation without her.

And on June 20, with both houses debating the Brexit Bill the entrepreneur was again absent — while Lib Dem Jo Swinson MP attended despite being heavily pregnant.

Three days earlier, Baroness Mone used social media to post pictures of a sunshine break in Monaco.

In July, when she was a no-show, she shared a revealing picture of herself in a low-cut swimsuit tweeting: “A bit cloudy but having a brilliant family holiday in St Barts.”

There is no formal rule on the number of days a peer should attend.

But a member ceases to be one if they do not attend a sitting during a session lasting six months or more.

The Scot’s spokesman said: “Baroness Mone is proud to be part of the House of Lords.

"She is also a full-time businesswoman and a fully-committed mum.

“She’ll always take her duties in the House of Lords very seriously.”
