Seattle-area music and nightlife events, May 10-16: Bun B, Omar Apollo and more

Almost every night of the week, Seattle’s stages offer a roster of regional indie-folk artists, do-it-yourself punk bands and homegrown comedians, as well as nationally touring pop stars. To that end, choosing something for your night out can be a daunting task. This weekly guide can help by filtering for recommended shows, select dates and your favorite genres.

This week’s highlights

Bun B, 8 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Nectar Lounge. The former member of Grammy-nominated rap duo UGK is bringing a night of rap to Seattle. The Texas-born rapper has worked with many big names in hip-hop over the span of his 31-year career, including Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz. When he’s not performing and making music, Bun B guest lectures at Rice University in Houston. The rapper’s sixth and latest studio album, “TrillStatik,” was released on April 17 and is a collaborative project with producer/DJ Statik Selektah.

Omar Apollo, 7 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at Neumos. The 21-year-old, born Omar Velasco, is bringing his “Voyager” tour to Seattle. The alternative-indie musician began the tour in March, about a month before the release of his latest EP, “Friends.” After touring throughout the country, Apollo will begin a European leg in June. Relatively new to the music scene, the Indiana native is still taking it all in and found it “crazy” to see himself on a screen in Times Square recently. Apollo has yet to release an album, but, for now, listeners can enjoy two EPs and several singles.
