Regret #2

Written with You

Rate this book
When I was fifteen, a single bullet changed my life. I spent the next decade trying to outrun the devastation of my past, building an empire that would shield me from whatever life could throw at me.

But all the money in the world couldn’t help me when I found a screaming newborn abandoned on my doorstep.

I’d never wanted to be a father. Passing the sludge that ran through my veins down to an innocent child seemed like a tragedy. But there she was—pink cheeks, red hair, and mine.

Somehow, against all logic, that little girl became the best thing that ever happened to me. It was impossible to stay lost in the past when I was the only one who could protect her future.

Which is exactly why, when her mother came back four years later, I was ready for battle.

If only I could stop myself from falling in love with her during the war.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, charcuterie boards, and her mildly neurotic golden retriever. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.

2 Mediocre Minority Stars

Sadly, I just didn't love this...and, believe me, no one is more surprised than me. I LOVE Aly Martinez and usually love her books. As I said above, I am very much the minority in not loving this...so take this review with the proverbial grain of salt...I definitely think this is a case of it's me, not you.

I rated book one of this duet 4 stars...and in hindsight, I am thinking that I was feeling generous that day; however, I am still leaving it at 4 stars as I definitely enjoyed it more than this one. And I don't remember having the same issues as strongly with that one as I had with this one.

But anyramble.

I say "issues," but in reality, my not loving this really boils down to one major problem: connection.

Or rather, I should say, a lack thereof.

I just didn't feel the connection between Caven and Hadley. And, as a reader reading a romance novel, when that element is missing...well, it kind of affects everything, no?

Both Caven and Hadley felt very wooden to me. And their constant and waxy poetic dialogue (both internal and external) ending up feeling overly sappy and circuitous as a result.

In short, I felt like they kept rehashing the same bullshit over and over again. In fact, I think there was a lot of filler here in general and I would have preferred if this duet had been condensed into one single book. If it had, I feel like we would have had one really awesome standalone (remember those? I miss them) rather than what was, for me, two somewhat mediocre books that felt like a foundational cliffhanger/twist combo which was built first and then tenuously stitched together later with filler.

In fact, I am pretty tired of the duet/trilogy trend, period. I feel like so many of them would be super solid standalone books and yet, are instead being muddied up with boring filler and strung out to fit the duet/trilogy bill and not the quality bill. But that's my own issue and not something that should be placed on this duet's shoulders.

Also, instead of finding Rosalee cute in this one, I found myself thanking myself yet again for making the choice not to have children. But that might have more to do with the fact that, 1) I read this while vacationing with my three nieces (ranging in ages 10 months to 6 years) for three days straight and had reached the point where the thought of Rosalee hiding vegetarian enchiladas under the couch didn't sound cute to me anymore, and 2) I am heartless.

In short, as I said, I am very much in the minority here. Even though I personally found this duet to be somewhat sappy and boring in general, most people I know loved it. So you might also.

This is the most ridiculous duet. Truly. I'm at 60% and I'll only finish it bc it's free on my KU. But I wanted to rant here in the review since I don't want to waste time repeating myself in the status updates.

Here's the illogical crap that's mind boggling to me--and not in a good way (if you don't want spoilers, STOP READING!!!! I warned you):

description

1) There's this shooting when the h/H were kids. Her 8, him early teens. Her parents got killed by his crazy dad who killed 48 ppl in total that day at the mall. H saved h. And the two have had this "connection" like soulmates ever since tho they never saw each other again until present day. But... wait for it--

description

2) h's name is Willow. She has a twin sister named Hadley. You got it--the old TWINS thing! They were both at the mall. Hadley didn't get Caven's mini knight in shining armor routine that he did with Willow (who got shot in the belly and now can't have children). For that, Hadley hated her sister and envied her the white knight, and struggled with PTSD. Getting into drugs, getting crazy. OK so what does Hadley do??

description

3) Adult Hadley decides to hunt Caven down, pretend to be her sister Willow (wavy vs straight hair), fuck him senseless, including purposely without a condom so she gets preggers, steals his laptop, wallet, etc. and bolts. One night stand.

REVENGE, JEALOUSY-FUELED SEX!!!! with a complete stranger! Yeah, Hadley was one leg short of a 3-legged stool. (she had OTHER plans too, but her plan to get what she wanted was pretty cracked)

4) 9 months later, Hadley pays a hooker to leave her new-born baby at Caven's door.

description

5) Willow finds out what Hadley did, they have a fight, Hadley takes Willow's stuff again and her car and kills herself by driving into a tree. (But not really, I won't give that spoiler, but I kinda did)

6) Willow's lawyer friend Beth finds out and thinks Willow died in the crash and pronounces her dead. Until she discovers Willow isn't dead, but then they decide "wouldn't it be WONDERFULLY BRILLIANT (illogical and stupid) to pretend to be Hadley, not clear up the misunderstanding, and go and claim the baby as Willow's daughter!! Cuz, ya know--if Willow went as WILLOW, aunt of the little girl and sister to the crazy bitch but NOT the crazy bitch would not have a chance in hell to actually see the little girl, RIGHT???? No, a loving aunt would be turned away FOR SURE! That was their assumption, so they perpetrated a whole scheme of having Willow pretend to be Hadley so she can have "rights" to her niece Rosie.

description

OK, as I'm writing, I'm taking the star down...the more I write the more I want to gag on the stupid plot...

7) So this is what Willow does. Caven hates her (since he knows her as Hadley), as he well should. And she goes through book 1 fighting him and winning him over as Hadley. They have sex. They fall in love. Then OF COURSE...

description

8) the truth comes out. And Caven finds out Willow -- the girl HE loved as his guardian angel, whose forgiveness during the shooting saved HIS LIFE bc he was racked by guilt due to his crazyass murdering pap-- is the ONE, he decides he HATES her for lying to him. Boy-- hate her for the stupidity, DITCH her for the stupidity, but don't make up all this drama when she's the one you love and want all along with NO baggage from the past!!!!

9) Interject random person attacking Willow for something Hadley stole from him. (Am sure it will be explained soooooo FLAWLESSLY like everything else thus far in this ridiculous plot... but that's still the remaining 40% to go.

10) plot twist in the end. I won't give it away. But of course you get the HEA. And even a side romance hinted at... but I won't be reading it.

SERIOUSLY, THIS PLOT IS ONE OF THE MOST CONVOLUTED, CONTRIVED, STUPID-ASS PLOTS I'VE READ IN RECENT HISTORY!

Despite one book by this author I rated 5 stars, I'm pretty sure I'm DONE with her.

Written with You is the epic conclusion of Aly Martinez's newest duet. I don't know how she continues to shock me with all these twists and turns, but reading an Aly Martinez book is so refreshing because I never know what I'm getting. There was a huge twist in book 1 that I never saw coming and then, just when I thought I had everything figured out- bam. Another one hit and it hit hard.

This story is so hard to review without spoilers for the first book, so it may be a little vague. It's really best to go into these books blind and enjoy the ride. This couple has a lot in their pasts to work through. Their relationship isn't easy, it's insanely complicated, but it's apparent that they belong together.

This is a book you won't be able to put down. I read it in one evening. Once I started it, there was no way I was doing anything else. It was a story of forgiveness, love, and acceptance. These characters had been through so much and had to dig deep to heal and move past their past.

If you're looking for an epic story that's completely unputdownable, look no further. The Regret Duet is just that. Intense, sexy, angsty, emotional, and full of twists and turns, this is a series you don't want to miss out on.

'WRITTEN WITH YOU' is the second full length romance book in Aly Martinez's 'The Regret' duet. It picks up where 'Written with regret' left off. Get ready for the continuation of Hadley and Caven's tumultuous journey..Spoken in Dual POV's.

💥BOOM💥 That’s how it’s done!! Another 5 ⭐️ read!!

This book is utterly unputdownable and unpredictable in every sense. This definitely is not your ordinary run of the mill romance. It's insanely addictive and intensely consuming.

Now I can breathe easily by putting to rest that clusterfuck of a cliffy that we all faced in book #1. All those little niggly questions we wanted answers to finally get answered..Nothing AT ALL and I do mean nothing will prepare you for the major twist in the plot that's coming your way..It literally had me spinning, a twist I never saw coming, a twist that left me flabbergasted. This book just had it all. This author is the QUEEN of DUETS!!

"I'm not a wolf in sheep's clothing when I'm with her. She's seen the skeletons in my closet, and she gets them because they are the same ones hanging in hers."

Written with you has been one of my most highly anticipated duets to date, I couldn’t wait for it to land on my kindle. Even being as sick as a dog didn’t stop me from diving in. I inhaled this at record speeds, time ceased to exist. There is absolutely nothing I would change about this book, utter perfection, through one man's life changing act a love like no other was created. Our relationship was born in a tragedy.

This author threw everything she could at me and I felt it all!! I sighed, I cried, I giggled, I swooned, I loved..This book, this duet, this author, ticked every single box!! And I can't wait to see what she has install for us..

This is the second installment in the Regret Duet and after Aly left us with a major cliffhanger in the last book... I needed this one like my life depended on it.

Thankfully the wait between these two books is not too long...

hurry gif - Google zoeken

This book opens exactly where the last one left us and so we are thrown right in the middle of the storm... I was on the edge of my seat and I pretty much stayed there until I reached the end. Now I need a drink !!! This was intense but in the best damn way !!

Twists and turns were coming from every single angle and I am utterly exhausted. This Duet is definitely going on my "top reads of 2019" list, that's for sure.

“God, why does this hurt?”

“Because love is an impossible game. Especially when only one person knows the rules.

I devoured this. Devoured IT! Totally pulled an all-nighter as soon as this hit my kindle. This conclusion was definitely everything I was expecting. Aly totally did not disappoint. After all, she's queen of the duets. She makes sure to keep you interested the entire time with the perfect combination of action, suspense and of course romance. I truly loved this story and all its twists and turns. I love that Aly always comes up with these fresh and original plot lines and simply delivers each time. I loved these characters and everything they went through and how they managed to come out on top while healing each other. And some of these twists! I didn't see them coming.

There isn't much I can say without spoiling the story. You truly have to read it to understand it. I loved it lots. And that epilogue was everything! This is the continuation of Book 1, which ends up in a cliffhanger, so you must read Book 1 first.

This was simply brilliant! I can't wait for whatever Aly Martinez brings us next. I absolutely recommend.

*****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

The baggage we both carried was daunting. And it was the permanent kind that wasn’t going to disappear into nothingness. But maybe it would fade. With time. With happiness. When the good times we’d create together finally outweighed the bad. We were going to have to fight for every moment of peace from now until eternity. But there was no one in the world I would rather have on my side.

INCREDIBLE!! The conclusion to ”The Regret Duet” completely surpassed my expectations. Book one ended with a HUGE and crazy reveal. I thought that plot twist was heavy enough to carry through to the end of the duet, but oh no, Aly Martinez with her clever writing, went and added another mind-blowing reveal in the story that I never saw coming!

I have read several books by Aly Martinez and have loved the majority of them, but this series has won its spot as my top favorite by this author. I loved Caven even more in book two. His love for his little girl and the woman who was his true soul mate catapulted him into top best book boyfriend status.

If you haven’t started this series yet, I highly recommend that you bump it up your TBR list. This story is going to hold you captive and you’ll love every minute of it!

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 5++++++
Heroine: 5
Plot: 5
Angst: 4.5
Steam: 4.5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5

"I'm not a wolf in sheep's clothing when I'm with her. She's seen the skeletons in my closet, and she gets them because they are the same ones hanging in hers."

Just when I thought there could be no more secrets....

I finished the whole duet in the one day, that shows how obsessed I was with this story. I couldn’t stop reading, it was so captivating. That prologue alone broke my freakin heart to pieces. I don’t know, it was just really sad and heartbreaking. This book is full of secrets, redemption, forgiving, healing, moving forward, and love.
I loved this duet so much and I can’t wait to read more of Aly Martinez books. She’s amazing! This is a must read duet. It’s so freakin amazing.

RATING: ALL THE STARS!!! TOP FAVORITE

READ MY REVIEW ON THE BLOG

I'll keep this short and sweet because, honestly, you need to experience this story with as little influence as possible. Better yet, stop reading here and go in blind. Yeah, I'm not selling myself well but I want you to have those whiplash moments. The twists I told you about in m review for WRITTEN WITH REGRET? Fuhgettaboutit. They were child's play. Forget everything you thought you knew when you finished the first book in the REGRET duet. Everything will be turned upside down and flipped at neck-breaking speed.

Aly Martinez is officially the queen of unexpected turns and twists. She has surprised me before with her completely unpredictable storylines but this time she has outdone herself a thousand times over. I was catching flies with my gaping mouth. I was shocked, in awe at her evil genius and totally taken off guard. I DID NOT SEE A SINGLE THING COMING. Damn, I thought I'd figured it all out when I finished the first book. Turns out I was completely off track.  And that showdown? My heart, oh my heart, it was beating so hard.
She stared back at me, her eyes filling with tears. A million words hung in the air between us.
Apologies.
Accusation.
Blame.
Guilt.
Love.

The sweet connection between the main characters, the one that is being made for the ages, is reinforced and strengthened in WRITTEN WITH YOU. They were inevitable. I loved Caven so much. He is a jerk when he is hurt - once you know that, it's easy to forgive him. He's alpha-male goodness with a side of hilarious. I adored this heroine just as much - her sass, her kindness, her all encompassing love for Caven and their little girl, she was the perfect partner for this strong, broken man who had the protective instinct of a mama bear. *Happy sigh*
"I don’t believe there is a reason for anything that happens. There are only actions, consequences, and unorchestrated coincidence. But every now and then, after the pain and heartache settle, beauty can be found in the consequences."

Aly has been a favorite of mine since THE FALL UP but she is getting better with every book. Every storyline is unique told in her own distinctive storytelling voice that holds both humor and anxiety and has its way to dig itself into your heart. Gah. I love her so much. This author reminds me why I love reading and she is the best remedy when you're in a slump. I thought the first one was amazing but this one? PER-FEC-TION. Bottom line? Get this duet.
A wise woman had once told me that we aren’t given a hundred years all at once. Time was doled out one very manageable second at a time. If all you focus on is the big picture and worry about tomorrow, you lose the happiness that can be found in the seconds.

Loved it as much as book 1, even a bit more! Aly Martinez is one of the best, she is so talented and makes you feel everything with her books! She can even surprise you with the twists… Told in dual POV, 1st person, it’s the second installment in "The Regret Duet" and has to be read in order. I’d like to read Rosalee & Jacob’s story one day, I know they are only four years old now but well they can grow up, right?! Overall, enjoyed it and hope you love it as well!

what a freaking journey, wow. that conclusion + epilogue was everything my wounded heart needed omg. 😭❤️‍🩹

i won't say much, but this duet brought it all again: sizzling romance, tension, chemistry, drama, mystery, suspense, some great moments of humor and banter, pain and angst, and more twists and turns. this was such a roller coaster ride of emotions, but i loved every second of it!!!

you get all the answers and resolutions from that WILD cliffhanger in book 1 and the MCs—omg, they truly completed and understood each other in a way no one else could have and after everything they had survived and been through, they deserve all the peace and love. 🥹

i highly recommend this duet!!

There are some stories that no matter how long it's been whether months or years, they stick with you. It's could’ve been a character that you didn’t see coming and they changed your entire reading experience in one chapter or the author's prolific storytelling that grabbed your heart and Never gave it back to you whole and you were ok with that. Do you know why? Because deep down you wanted that experience and you wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. These books were my experience and these same books?.... will never be forgotten.

Coming off of one of the most shocking cliffhangers that I’ve read in a long time, I was in desperate need read this book. Lives were turned upside down, betrayals were at the forefront, and the future was uncertain for a lot of these characters but despite that, something powerful and beautiful was brewing and we were all witnesses to it. These characters were flawed in the best way and not only did they love hard, but they fought harder.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

All of our questions were not only answered in Written With You, but this author decided to throw us a curve ball that literally had me off kilter. I was not expecting that at all and I fucking loved it!!!! This is why you never underestimate someone. Just when you think that you’re safe and comfortable in your little bubble and all is good, they throw you for a loop and you don’t mind because you secretly love it.

I know that this review is extremely vague but this is the only way to put it. If you haven’t read the first book, then just saying some of the characters names could be a possible spoiler and trust me when I say, you don’t want that. The element of surprise, the unforgivable heartbreak, all of these things is what made this story so unique and enthralling. If you’re looking for an unforgettable duet with a few twists, then this one is most definitely for you.

I’ve read this story before, different name but same plot, you know the one where the evil twin sister sleep with the man the heroine wants and loves because She despises her sister? Yeah that type of plot! It didn’t wowed me. Sorry not sorry.
I dnfed book 1 but apparently by talks in this book between the heroine and her friend she was almost a virgin when she had sex with hero because apparently having sex before with a pencil dick doesn’t break your hymen. 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄
Btw I still very much hated hero and heroine.

I lived in the seconds. One emotion. One tick of the clock.

If there's one thing Aly Martinez can do, it's write one unpredictable story that will grip you by the heart and keep you at the very edge of your seat. And this book? MY GOD! It was EVERYTHING. Seriously all of the things. An emotional powerhouse of love and secrets, pain and regret, and second chances. Written With You owned me. Absolutely owned me. Beginning to finish. I never wanted it to end.

Admittedly, I struggled a bit with the heroine in the first book. Alright, so I was judging the hell out of her, okay?! So sue me. But if you've read the book, than you'll know exactly why I had problems fully connecting to her. But this book was a total game changer. After the cliffhanger that leaves you reeling in book one, book two finishes you off with a one two punch straight to the feels. Holy mother of everything!!!

I don't want to give anything away, because to be honest, the entire thing is a dang spoiler of book one. And I wouldn't want to take that experience away from anyone. I typically struggle with duets and trilogies, but never with Aly's books. Somehow her second book is always even more powerful than the first. And let me tell you, the first was no walk in the park. It was gut wrenching.
Our entire lives were one impossibility after another.

This was filled with so many twists and turns, it will leave your stomach in knots and your head reeling. I devoured it in one breathless sitting and I cannot recommend it enough. It's different. It's gripping. It's addictive. And it will own you, heart and soul, from one devastating page to the other.

I love Written with Regret. That cliffhanger almost killed me. Seriously! When I finally found Written with You, my heart soars. Finally! The epic conclusion.

Well it turned out not so epic nor as grand as I expected. It is still good conclusion for this duet. However with a tad of disappointment. There are just too much plot and twist that makes me confuse and frustrated. I know Miss Martinez is well known for giving her readers a mind blowing twist, in this case.... way too much.

The conclusion is also bit rushed. Less dramatic. At the end I awarded this book 4 stars.

**Please take this review with a grain of salt. I started the first half while on a family trip and was distracted. I apologize in advance if I made any mistakes, and please pm me so I can correct them if I did.**

Overall Opinion: It was alright. I was distracted for the beginning of this because I was on a trip, but I still didn't feel all that invested to stop myself from being distracted either (hope that makes sense). I felt like this was a duet that didn't need to be a duet, but that could be my own bias against duets in the first place influencing my opinion too. The big twist at the very end was handled too quickly for me to feel like it was believable and I felt like it was thrown in for the sake of having something climatic in this book where nothing else was really going on. Overall, I didn't really hate it but I didn't love it either = just okay 3 Stars.

*Please do not continue on with this review if you have not read the first book, Written with Regret, as this might have some unexpected spoilers for that book as well*

It is rare to find a duet or trilogy that sustains the same quality of writing and story development across all books but Ms. Martinez seems to have honed this craft down to a science.

The conclusion to this story was absolutely riveting. I was hooked and reeled in by the captivating and dynamic characters that, though flawed, definitely had big hearts manifested through their capacity to love. The chemistry between our main characters was palatable. 🔥

The plot was interesting and refreshing. The writing and editing superb. The pace and transitions were seamless. Secondary characters added value and progression to the story.

To say that I enjoyed this would be an understatement. I literally couldn’t put it down!

Tragedy brought the H and h together. Years later they’re still grieving, dealing with feelings of guilt, not only because of secrets and lies, but also because of things that happened in the past that was out of their control. Talk about laying the sorrow on thick. Everything about the story felt exaggerated. Even the antics of the cute but unrealistic-just-turned-4-year-old little girl.

I rounded up to 3 stars because of the additional twist. It wasn’t as huge as the one in book 1, but it was still somewhat unexpected.

There was also a secondary character that I’m hoping gets his own story. That doesn’t mean I won’t approach his book with caution if one is written. I don’t want another story where the drama and sorrow outweigh the healing.

4-4.5 ⭐'s

I wasn't prepared for this series but I want to prepare you. If you're wanting to read this, DO NOT read any reviews because you'll really want to go into this blind.

That being said, the last book left us with quite the revealment - at least for me. Naturally, there were some things that didn't add up regarding Hadley and what she did. That is brought to light fairly quickly and of course, Caven is upset.

Surprisingly, Ian (Caven's best friend) becomes her biggest supporter and helps her in a time of need. He also contacts Caven who is forced to admit his true feelings.

Unfortunately, not everyone is a big fan and especially not Caven's brother, Trent. He shows up and all hell breaks loose.

I was ~mostly~ happy with the way things wrapped up. There is some darkness in the story but overall, I loved how Caven and Hadley found their way and Rosie is just amazing.

What's even more amazing is that epilogue...LOVED that and the interesting little tidbit about Ian.

Oops. I accidentally started this book (the follow-up book) before the first one Written with Regret By the time I figure out what I’d done, I just couldn’t stop reading. I had to figure out what was going on (I know. I should have put this book down and picking up the first one) BUT I needed to know how everything ended. Haha. To say I was missing some key information was an understatement—but it didn’t ruin the story for me. I will go back and read the first book. Sadly, now that I know the big plot twist...well, let’s just say, I think I cheated myself out of a great overall read.

**SPOILER FREE DUET REVIEW**

“The only reason I hate you is because I can’t figure out how to fucking hate you at all.”

What a story!! Absolutely brilliant! From the heart-stopping prologue through to the beautifully emotional finish, The Regret Duet by Aly Martinez held us captive on every single page! We were unable to move whilst devouring this clever, exquisitely written jaw-dropping story that was unlike anything we’ve read in some time. With every turn of the page, we became enthusiastically, nervously and ravenously enthralled by Aly Martinez’s superb storytelling and wonderful characters.

“This hurts,” I croaked. “God, why does this hurt?”
“Because love is an impossible game. Especially when only one person knows the rules.”

The first thing we must stress is – stay away from spoilers! This book had so many twists, shocks and surprises we didn’t see coming which made our reading experience even more breathtaking. We want other readers to feel the way we did and so our review will be vague story wise.

‘Half of my heart was singing grand hymns of praise. The other half was withering into nothingness.’

We read a lot – we’re voracious readers who feel incomplete without a book in our hands. This is both a joy and a curse because it’s getting hard to surprise us these days, as we tend to work out twists early on. Whilst this doesn’t always negatively impact the story for us, it does take away the shock effect we love to experience. Well, Aly Martinez did surprise us! That cliffy in book one! We did not see it coming! In fact, there were so many twists in this duet that knocked us for six, we found ourselves expressing our shocks vocally (and loudly), and we can’t tell you how much we loved that!

Everything about this story was flawless in our eyes. There were times we wondered how in the hell Aly Martinez was going to deliver resolutions without it feeling forced, but she did and she did it splendidly and organically! We were well and truly engrossed in every aspect of this duet!

“It’s okay to live with regret, Caven. But it’s something totally different to live in regret.”

This duet was a complex story with a heart-stopping, devastating prologue which immediately seized the reader. It then skips fourteen years when we meet Caven Hunt who is celebrating becoming a self-made multi-millionaire. Life is looking good for single Caven until… the cries of a baby abandoned on his doorstep, the result of a one night stand, changes his life forever. Caven had long ago decided children weren’t in his future for reasons we find out as the story progresses, but on finding out the baby is his, Caven, steps in to raise his daughter.

‘It was crazy the way children could heal a broken soul.’

We move forward four years and find Caven, now thirty-three, has embraced single fatherhood becoming a doting Dad to four-year-old Rosalee (Rosie) and what a relationship it was. The humour was natural, the banter between Caven and his cheeky sassy daughter was funny, sweet and heart melting! Caven the man completely stole our hearts! Yes, he could be hot-headed but this man had seen more than his fair share of tragedy, loss and pain in his years than most would see in a lifetime.

‘Yes, my life had been hell, filled with more pain and chaos than others saw in a lifetime. But falling in love with Rosalee Hunt was the easiest thing I’d ever done. And the first time she’d said “I love you, Daddy,” I’d frozen, my chest so tight that I thought there was a solid chance I was having a heart attack.’

But…Rosie’s mother has returned and Caven is not at all happy! What does she want and why has she been absent for four years? Are her intentions above board? You’ll have to read and see!

Told through dual povs between Hadley and Caven, we learn just how their lives were entwined and why she abandoned her baby in Caven’s care. Now, this is where the twists and turns left our heads spinning! We couldn’t have predicted how this story would pan out and how completely consumed we would become, frozen to our Kindles until the final pages. What a rollercoaster of emotions!

‘And now, I knew what loving a man was supposed to feel like.’

We loved Caven, Rosie and Hadley (and their friends Ian and Beth!) – we couldn’t fault anything about these characters. They were relatable, their emotions and actions natural and each one gave us pause for thought as our hearts bled for the tragedy they had endured in their young lives. We understood their pain and lived their heartbreak and anguish. We felt everything!

We went from euphoric to heartbreak – we giggled, we smiled, we cried and we embraced the warmth of the characters, whilst holding our hearts in agony! We didn’t come up for air once!

This is one of the best duets we’ve read! This is what we call a ‘real duet’ a story that needed to be told over two books – not one book cut in half. The ending to book one left us reeling – we had to immediately move onto the second book, the second book left us breathless!

“Because life isn’t lived as a whole. You aren’t given a hundred years all at once. Time is doled out one very manageable second at a time.”

Clear your reading schedule, grab this duet and prepare to become completely fixated on an unforgettable, moving and surprising story – lose yourself in the smart and sincere writing, then tell your friends all about it!

Title: Written with You (The Regret Duet #2)
Author:Aly Martinez

I am not even going to pretend to be all vague and suppress my feelings ok? This book is an absolute 5 stars read! The Regret Duet is the one! What an absolute stunner!

The first book in the duet, Written With Regret , left us with an absolutely shocking cliffhanger than made me crave for this book like an erratic nutcase. The wait was SOOOO worth it!

Written with You was so good!
The plot twist were rolling on and on and my heart was in a constant state of alert.... Suffice to say, I was all for it!

This book had love and betrayal, the story captured my heart with its storyline of sadness and joy, there were lies and deception but damn if I won't admit that this book was not not an entertainingly addictive read. WHAT AN ABSOLUTE GEM!!!

I loved this duet so much! Can't recommend this book enough! Grab it because you won't regret it at all.
NOTE: Have I mentioned how much I love Rasalee?! Because I adore this tiny human to bits!

Flipping joke.

Books like this actually VEX me.

Managed to get me in my feelings because I gave the first book 3 STARS nearly 4.

Even though he was a manwhore. Even though she was a baby skipper. I was hoping she’d had a sex life but of course, nooooo, just one guy “barely the tip”.

But book 2, wow, so stupid. That plot twist ruined everything.

Gtfo of here with that double dipping bullshit and twin spin CRAP.

The hero worship thing was boring and pathetic as is and to ADD to that. Literally pathetic. His dad came in and shot up a mall with 48 people including your parents. And this girl be drooling over his ass because he saved her. UM, NO. And he fucked your twin sister, and had a baby with her. Not to mention you being shot and now infertile. Now you’re pretending to be her, because she’s dead to get access to her child that she dumped on him. That’s a level I can’t fw.

“I still remember so much from that night, but at the same time, it feels like it was a different life.”

Please. He even recollects memories of her sister of their ONS. It’s just way too much gag.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’ve read about too many hero’s victimising themselves when they have done shit worse than worse. So what if she didn’t tell you? What was she supposed to say? And how are YOU punishing her?

She just needs to date someone. Honestly someone that would appreciate her. Not know about the crap history she’s been through. Make her feel alive and her own age. Take her dancing and for a meal. She’s been holding onto the ghosts of her past and give more meaning to him than he deserves.

She’s pretending they’re a family but they’re not. That child will always be her sister’s daughter. Her sister will always be the one who had a child with the love of her life. I’m not about that, nothing will make that palatable for me.

I will say I did see the last twist coming in the murder mystery of the mall shooting.

OH EM GEE!!

WOW

This picks up right where the first book left us, mid way through Hadley’s birthday party. After a very confronting conversation with Trent, Hadley’s newly constructed life is beginning to crumble. Trent has shaken the foundation of everything she has built with Caven and Rosalee.

All the chickens are coming home to roost in this page turning conclusion to this thrilling duet. Not just for Hadley though, Caven has his own skeletons that continue to haunt him and maybe it’s time to reveal everything to the woman he is falling in love with? Unfortunately, Hadley is not thinking the same way, she is yet to tell Caven a few truths and the thought terrifies her. She finally has everything she has ever wanted and the thought of losing the only family she has left is enough to keep those truths locked away, for now.

The connection between Caven and Hadley is like nothing either of them could have imagined. She knows his family secrets and his biggest regrets but still wants to be with him anyway. He never thought he would find someone to share his life with, someone he could trust to love Rosalee as much as he does. He can see the future they could share together, it’s right within his grasp until one moment changes everything once again. His world is flipped on its axis and he is left feeling completely confused and betrayed.

‘This was my storm. My disaster. All I could do was let him know that I’d be waiting in the rain if he ever changed his mind.’

Talk about a mind fuck! Hadley’s happy ever after is slipping away from her and if she has to lose Caven then it’s the price she is willing to pay to hold onto her beautiful Rosalee. A life without her would be a life she can’t bear to think about. That little girl is all she has left and she will not walk away from her again.

As both Caven and Hadley struggle to deal with what this all means for them, there are other things going on in the background. People who once knew Hadley are emerging from the swamp of her past, bringing danger and fear into their lives and Caven is on high alert. His instinct to protect takes over and although there is still a lot they need to work out, he won’t let anything happen to Hadley. Rosalee would be heartbroken if anything happened to her and if he was honest with himself he can’t bear the thought of it either.

‘It’s okay to live with regret, Caven. But it’s something totally different to live in regret.’

You’d think that would be enough for these two deal with right? Well it seems Aly Martinez had a whole more planned out and all of the above was just the tip of the iceberg. So much more happens and I am not even going to touch on it because you need to experience it without any spoilers. Just know that this will be a hell of a ride so strap in and grab your popcorn.

‘Time was doled out one very manageable second at a time. If all you focus on is the big picture and worry about tomorrow, you lose the happiness that can be found in the seconds.’

Aly Martinez reminds me with each book she writes why she is one of my favorite authors. I would've read this book in one sitting if I didn't have to go to sleep. I almost pulled an all-nighter because I was that hooked to the story and characters. Written with You starts where Written with Regret left of, the twist at the end of the book had me very excited to get my hands on this one. I enjoyed that this book had suspenseful elements and that it was unpredictable. Hadley and Caven were such amazing and beautiful characters and I understood every decision they made. I just love it when I am on the same wave-length as the characters, and that their actions make sense.

The relationship between Caven and his daughter Rosie is just the cutest, and the same goes for the relationship between her and Hadley. This book had me laughing, teary-eyed, on the edge of my seat and addicted. I didn't want their story to end. I hated coming closer and closer to the end of the book, because I had to get ready to say goodbye to such awesome characters. The romance was great and fun, the realization of some things were heartbreaking. Both characters have been through so much, and continue to go through things in this book as well. I loved seeing them heal each other. The epilogue was everything and more I wanted. I think romance readers will enjoy/love this book and be surprised by all the crazy twists in the story. I already look forward to Aly's next book.
