1. HABA is over 80 years old! HABA was founded in 1938 as a factory for finely finished wooden toys. And today, wooden toys still make up the majority of all our offered products. More than 15 designers and editors of games and books design and develop over 500 new products every year.
2. HABA has been selling board games in the famous Yellow boxes since 1986. The year same year The Orchard Game was first introduced to the market. These games have been enjoyed by kids everywhere both big and small. They invite players to lose themselves in adventurous worlds and to take on new challenges. Over 3 million copies of Orchard have been sold to date around the globe!
3. We employ approximately 1,900 people at the HABA family of companies headquarters in Bad Rodach, Germany, about 20 in the United States and many more across our various other international distribution locations.The ratio of female-to-male employees is approximately 6:4.
4. The Safety tests that toys undergo at HABA go far beyond the legal requirements. All our products comply with and often exceed worldwide regulations for toy safety for both materials used and their processing. Tests include template tests, soaking tests, impact, drop and pull tests, as well as saliva and perspiration fastness.
5. We produce 1,800,000 dice every year.
6. The oldest HABA product still available today is the pulling figure Duck. The first duck was produced in 1954, and to this day, it is still happily pulled behind by its little masters.
7. Unicorn Glitterluck has been translated into 13 languages.
8. Each year, 1,582,720 different components are made for HABA ball tracks—all made from beechwood or birch, and all made in Bad Rodach.
9. All of our wooden toys that are manufactured in Germany are made from PEFC certified reforested timbers. PEFC is the only global certification system that requires specific compliance for forest management. As the world’s largest forest certification system, they help promote biodiversity and prohibit hazardous chemicals and GMOs, as well as protect workers’ rights and support family and community-owned forests. Interesting to note that in Germany more trees are being planted each year then harvested!
10. HABA is run by a man named "Klaus" - It may not be Santa Klaus (Claus) but HABA is still a family run company, under the leadership of the managing partner Klaus Habermaaß. Son of the Late Eugen who along with a partner Anton Engel, started Habermaass in 1938.
11. At our company headquarters in Germany, we've built birdhouses on the property, which are frequently used every year by kestrels, swifts and other birds. Also, the hedges, which surround the parking lots, provide an optimal habitat for smaller species of birds and many other animals. In total, HABA offers haven to 24 different species of birds, helping protect the animals of the region.
12. Nothing is Wasted at HABA! During production of our wooden toys, wood chips and sanding waste is collected and used to fuel the facility’s heating system. Larger pieces of wood equal to about 3,000 tons each year, are sold or given away to employees and members of the surrounding communities to heat their homes. Even rain water is collected via cisterns throughout the HABA campus to provide flushing water for toilets.
