It’s claimed the attacker placed paper inside the victim’s hood and then set it on fire.

Luckily the boy managed to avoid injury in the unexplained attack but was left traumatised by the ordeal.

A source revealed: “A young lad was in the school grounds minding his own business when this other lad came up behind him.

“He shoved bits of paper inside his hood and then used a match to set it alight.

“The fire burnt right through his jacket and singed his school uniform.

“Luckily the poor kid wasn’t harmed but he was in a state of fear.

“I don’t know what it was all about or if it was just a mad prank gone wrong.

“But it was serious stuff that could have ended in disaster.

“The police were called to the school about lunchtime and all the kids are talking about it.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police in Fife are aware of incident at Dunfermline High School when a pupil caused fire damage to another pupil’s clothing.

“No one was injured.

“Officers are following a positive line of inquiry and liaising with relevant partners as part of this investigation.”

Head of Education and Children’s Services Phil Black confirmed that there had been an incident this afternoon where an item of clothing had been set alight. “Staff are working with the Police to ensure that all appropriate action is taken in response.”

The drama comes just months ten pupils fell ill having allegedly taken tablets.
