Nicola Sturgeon accused of preparing to ‘wage war on motorists’ as part of major eco blitz
NICOLA Sturgeon has been accused of preparing to “wage war on motorists” as part of a major eco blitz.
The First Minister said the 2019-20 Programme for Government will see a “big focus” on cutting transport emissions.
Ms Sturgeon set a target in May of Scotland becoming carbon neutral by 2045.
The Nats chief said: “We have to reduce the emissions from transport, which will be a big focus of what I talk about tomorrow.”

The Scottish Government is already trying to roll out “low-emission zones” in cities, and is bringing in a controversial tax on workplace parking spaces.
Tory shadow environment secretary Maurice Golden said: “This is a clear signal Nicola Sturgeon is going to wage war on motorists rather than implement a coherent climate change policy. The SNP should stop targeting drivers.”
Ms Sturgeon also prompted criticism for saying she wanted to move away from fossil fuels — but refusing to say when she wanted to stop North Sea drilling.
She insisted a halt now would increase emissions as oil and gas would be imported from countries with a “higher carbon intensity”.
But Greens co-leader Patrick Harvie said: “No one is talking about switching off domestic production right now but we know we can’t afford to use all the fossil fuel reserves already identified.

“We owe it to the people working in these industries to put a timeframe on this transition.
“In the meantime, further exploration for even more new oil and gas reserves is completely indefensible.”
Ms Sturgeon declared a “climate emergency” earlier this year.
