Tell us a bit about your role and what it has involved?

I joined Glide as a Marketing Coordinator in 2014. My role at Glide started out as more of an assistant position with me being the lynch pin between us and our branding agency, Orb, who had previously handled all of Glide’s marketing activity.

During my first year here, I worked closely alongside our account manager at Orb, supporting the implementation of our marketing objectives.

A year later, I had taken on the responsibility of managing Glide’s marketing and bringing this completely in-house, with Orb still playing a key role in supporting us. I was making decisions on national campaigns, handling a £250k marketing budget and running the day-to-day activities of a marketing department.

What has been your most memorable/enjoyable project you’ve worked on?

The most memorable campaign and also most enjoyable was definitely our national campaign with Global Radio. We ran an online competition for free bills for a year which was promoted through digital radio stations like Capital FM, and our adverts were listened to over 2 million times across the UK. Another exciting part of this was using James Buckley (Jay from the Inbetweeners) as our voiceover in the ad. He recorded four versions of the ad for us directly from a studio in LA and he couldn’t have been more perfect for the job.

This was my favourite project as I had the chance to get involved in all the creative aspects such as helping to formulate ideas for the scripts through creative brainstorming sessions, as well as getting stuck in with the filming of our competition video with Orb, who did an amazing job of putting together a promo video for the campaign. You can watch it here.

What has been the most difficult part of your role?

The most difficult part of my role has been having the confidence to believe in myself when making some big decisions, especially with having such a huge responsibility of looking after the marketing activity of a business that turns over £20m.

I’ve gained experience in areas that would have taken me years to reach in other companies and I’m so grateful of the exposure. It has provided me with an invaluable skillset that will take me a long way on my career path.

What have you learned during your time here?

I’ve learned so many things at Glide, not just about the industry but about myself too. Two years ago, I walked into Glide with minimal marketing experience, and I would not have thought I’d be where I’m at now in such a short space of time. I’ve learned that I shouldn’t be afraid to ask questions in the fear of sounding silly, because that’s the best way to learn. And I’ve also discovered that I should trust my instinct more than I do. The only way to find out if something works is to try!

What will you miss about Glide?

The thing I’ll miss the most about Glide are the Gliders themselves. The people I sit amongst each day aren’t just colleagues, but friends too, and I’ve shared so many fun experiences with them. Our friendships go beyond the walls of our office and I think that’s really special. The culture at Glide is like no other, and I’ll really miss all the laughs we have on a daily basis, as well as the team spirit.

Where will you be moving on to?

I’ll be joining Virgin Trains in December as a Real-time Response Manager in their social media department. I’m really excited about my new adventure as Virgin are a great brand and they’re at the top of their game in their industry. I can’t wait to take the next steps in my career and I owe Glide a huge thank you for all the experience I’ve gained that has helped me get there!

If you’re interested in applying for my role then I can guarantee you an amazing experience! For more information on this position, please email Richard.price@glide.co.uk
