This is a story involving characters from the sidelines of our Billionaire and CEO's stories. Our hero is a former GI who now works as a chauffeur while teaching art classes. Our heroine is also a former GI who is now a lawyer and must bring his inheritance to him.
Great story, Great Characters!

This book has all of the bones of an exciting, plot-driven story, but none of the meat. It’s storytelling in skeleton form. What a waste. I want to say ‘at least it was free’, but even that doesn’t outweigh my disappointment at good characters and a hint of a good plot being wasted like this.

i went to a hair salon, sat there for two hours tops, and finished this book. it was that fast-paced and entertaining that i read the book in one sitting.

to be honest, i didn't remember who gerald and suzanne were or if they were even mentioned in the previous books. however, i was so intrigued by them. they aren't as crazy as declan, shannon, andrew and amanda (definitely not on the same level as marie) but they were an interesting pair. their story progressed really quickly because there were lingering feelings from years ago which reignited when gerald and suzanne reunited.

the book was more about the romance between gerald and suzanne as compared to the plot. i didn't really care about the inheritance/heir problem because i got more invested in their relationship. overall, a really quick read with a rekindling relationship and hilarious characters!

Received in exchange for a honest review.

I didn’t think that Julia Kent could top Shopping for the CEO’s fiancee but I was wrong. This book in the series was just as crazy fun loving and whacky. But with a hitch. Julia Kent does have a serious issue take place with the two main characters of Suzanne and Gerald. what I love about this though is that although she tackles PTSD and we are informed on how it affected these two and how they both dealt and are dealing with it, it is done in a way that is informative and doesn’t weigh down the book.

We have characters from previous books come into the scene in this one mainly Declan. Who plays matchmaker.

This opens up with two old ladies Agnes and Corrine and their antics at Gerald’s art class especially with Declan as his nude model. These hysterics are a hoot and it doesn’t stop there. There isn’t a moment with these ladies that won’t have you cracking up. the oregano that is mistaken for marijuana, the ogling of Declan, the banter between the old ladies, and the scenes in McCormack’s home are just a few of the hysterical moments. There isn’t a moment that you won’t smile in this book.

Gerald is a strong leading character. He is dealing with his issues moment by moment and has regrets for how he did some things in the past but he is still a caring, compassionate and honest guy. He is loyal and fierce as well. And he never stopped loving Suzanne even though he had to let her go. You want to growl at him for that but can’t for when you learn why it will have you sad for him. His protective instincts are really alpha male. So is his love. His interactions with Declan are fun, with Suzanne they are strife with the sexual tension until they finally give in and talk and find their way to each other again.

Suzanne is a stubborn smart and feisty character. She has her own battles with the past to deal with. when she is instructed to deal with a will that involves Gerald as one who inherits is when her world is turned upside down and she realizes that her heart will never not belong to Gerald. Her anger does dissolve over time. Her dates are a hoot from the PUA with his twitter feed and the one about puppy play will just have you rolling on the floor laughing.

Julia Kent writes another lighthearted, fun, hysterical romance that has some serious moments but just has you smiling and laughing the whole way through a romance that started over ten years before and was put on pause as one of the lovers figured out life and love. This is the tale of Gerald and Suzanne. The sexy fun tale of two characters thrown together by fate and a unlikely group of matchmakers as they find their way to forgive and move on and rediscover their love for one another. Another winner in this series and I do hope that maybe Trent McCormack will be next for that one will be a comedy to be sure that I would love to see.

This is the first time I've read anything by the author, and it an overall good story about second chances at love. Right when the story starts we get to meet Gerald Wright, a former Navy Seal whose daytime job is as a chauffeur for billionaires, and an artist by night. His jobs has taken him to a lot of places, but when he met Suzanne Dayton his life changed. They got engaged soon after, but that did not last long before he called it off. Leaving without letting her know how he really felt has tormented him for a very long time. After being in the Navy, he saw a lot of things that mentally destroyed him, and he needed to find a way to let her go without bring her down. Now, years later he finds himself at his art class when his ex-fiancee shows up to serve him with inheritance paperwork from a man he's never heard of before. He thinks it's a joke, but takes it as a sign that maybe he still has a chance to be with the woman that he loves once again. It's up to Gerald now to convince Suzanne that they can still have a happily ever after if they let the past go.

I really enjoyed reading the book, it's hilarious and sweet. The plot itself had it's twists and turns, but it wasn't exciting to me. I was expecting so much more from this book, the pace was inconsistent, but at the end the characters really had me rooting for them as a couple. There are secondary characters that really helped the story a lot, they made it funny and I enjoyed reading those scenes the most. In the story, Gerald has to come to terms with his past, and by spending time with Suzanne things get a lot better for him. The duel point-of-view helps us understand both characters more as they go to the next step in their lives. Overall, it was good story with a solid ending. I will most definitely keep reading from the author in the future. :)

He took a good look at her. He'd seen holy men in Afghanistan with fewer wrinkles. Eyes sunken deep into weathered flesh, she had a twisted, puckered mouth, moved with slow intent, and wore a pink t-shirt with white lettering across the chest that said. "My Breasts Used To Be This High."

My word that's crass and ageist. AND offensive. Would Gerald have thought the same about someone who had a facial disfigurement? Or a physical disability? Or maybe a mental impairment? How about acne scars, or a missing limb? No - Let's all mock the elderly. After all, they won't answer back. If Gerald is the 'billionaire' in this story then I sure as hell don't want to read any more about him. He is a judgemental, opinionated, ageist moron.

and this: The woman had batwings.

So what the hell is wrong with batwings?? Unless you have the chance to work out each day and probably a plastic surgeon, they HAPPEN. Its part of growing old - you know - the thing thats going to happen most people.

FFS, stop with the callous mockery of people who are 'old'. It doesn't demean the elderly, it only demeans those who mock them.

one star. and I only read about five pages.

Sorry, but - I was not sure at all what the main plot was in this book. The history between the two protagonists? Their meeting again through her job? The heirloom for him? I think if the author had followed one main plot and treated the rest as side- or subsidiary plots, the story would have been clearer and not so confusing.
As to the language - too "posh" (congratulations for knowing a lot of words with more than 3 syllables, but although they were correct, they were not appropriate, in a manner of speaking; they did make some passages way too philosophical.
And - I don't really want to know which neurons or chemical processes are used or happening when you are attracted by someone, or aroused - and see the remark above about the multi-syllable words.
This was the first book in this series I have read, and I am afraid, it will be the last, at least for me.

No build up

This book was awful.
1. Probably would have been helpful to read the other stories in this series;
2. Absolutely no relationship building, other than they had once been engaged, so they just sorta feel back I 10 years later
3. Weird little side story about his inheritance, but really, more about his friend that posed nude for his sculpting classes

Waste of time

The only reason I kept reading, while skipping long paragraphs (some with unnecessary scenes rated R and others just plain unnecessary), was because I kept thinking i might be missing something. There wasn't much of a plot, but parts of what was there seemed like it should be part of a bigger story but it really wasn't. In the end I'm not sure if there was a point to this book. I probably won't read this author again.

"Doggie date," oregano, and clay sculptures

Who would have thought those three items can make you laugh so hard you cry. Julia Kent that is who. Shopping for an Heir is an excellent addition to two great series. Definitely one to put on the reading list!

I listened to the audio version of this book and absolutely loved it. To be honest, the narration by Sebastian York may have pushed it to 5 Stars instead of 4 Stars for me. I'm usually not into books about billionaires, but the billionaire facet was almost like a minor part in the book.
I loved the laugh out loud moments in the book (think naughty old ladies and a very hunky male nude model for an art class). The internet dates that Suzanne went on were also snort worthy. I also liked that Gerald and Suzanne had a past together and each had never gotten over the other. It just made the whole process of them coming together that much sweeter. The PTSD that Gerald is dealing with in the book gave a smack of reality.
Overall, Julia Kent wrote a book both hilarious and hot--sometimes hilariously hot (if that makes sense). Sebastian York's performance gives just the right drawing out to emphasize the dry humor to perfection! I think there's a little more to this book than the cover would lead you to believe . Listen to it if you can. You won't be sorry!

Shopping for a Heir

'Shopping for a Heir' is a second chance romance after ten years being apart. An artifact beings them back together. Humor is provided by the seniors in the nude sculpture class and getting oregano instead of medical marijuana.

Anybody want some oregano

I so love how Julia Kent writes. I'm so happy for Gerald. You get a more in depth imagine of him. You get a glimpse of his nature. I so love this book. It had me dying laughing in the middle of the night. I'm sick but for some reason could not put this book down. Between coughing or puking In was still holding my stomach from laughter. I'm glad all the other characters are in this book as well. Declan playing matchmaker, Maria disrupting class. Agnes pinching people. That 92 year old know she's wrong and on top of that sculpting nude people. Well, she only wanted to sculpt one person and had the class sold out. Don't forget about the many dates that went horribly but funny wrong for Suzanne. You only punish a pup who mess with your crotch with a lease...This story was too much. I'm sad it ended. I might have cornbread it and see if I forgot or missed a section or cheaper or page. I cannot wait for the honey story or Hamish story. Who would have thought running into your ex created so much in you. Oh yeah the oregano..what can I say...had me in tears literally. Get the book so you will know what I'm talking about. Just remembered I warned you it has to do with Maria.

5 star review Shopping for an Heir (Shopping for a Billionaire #10) by Julia Kent
Book 10 in the series is all about Gerald Wright, a former Navy Seal who works as a chauffeur for the McCormick family. He is also a talented sculptor, a fact that surprised many.
Being around billionaires, the last things he expects or wants is to find out that he has inherited a fortune from someone he has never even heard of. However, that is exactly what happens when his ex-fiancée Suzanne Dayton crashes his nude model sculpting class to serve him with papers about his new found wealth.
All is not as it seems, as there are conditions attached to the inheritance. Gerald and Suzanne must both face their pasts. As with the other books in the series, Shopping for an Heir was comedic and I often found myself laughing out loud, shaking my head and altogether thoroughly enjoying this book.
The elderly secondary characters that Julia Kent intertwines in these stories are priceless and I must say I love them.
I love a second chance at love story and this is one of the best I have read in ages. Congratulations, Ms. Kent on a great addition to what is in my humble opinion a fantastic series.

Overall - 4/5
Amount of sex - 3.5 / 5
How explicit - 3.5 / 5
Romance - 4 / 5
Shopping for an Heir by Julia Kent is the 10th book in the 'Shopping for a Billionaire' series. I have not read the other books in this series and did not have any issues with following the story line. Shopping for an Heir does contain some heavy topics, like PTSD, but the author writes it in a way that does not make the story line overly emotional.

Gerald and Suzanne used to be engaged years ago and the break up was especially hard on Suzanne. Years later, as a lawyer, she is required to get in contact with Gerald over an inheritance left for him. Suzanne decides to hand him the information during a class he teaches… nude model sculpting. There were so many funny scenes in this book, but I especially loved the ones with Agnes and Corrine. I recommend adding Shopping for an Heir to your TBR list to those who enjoy romantic comedies! **ARC was received in exchange for an honest review*

I think it was supposed to be funny but I didn’t care for it. Several characters, I am assuming from other books. Silly older ladies, a few bad dates, a little relic mystery and a rekindling of an old flame.

Julia Kent's Shopping series continues on, with a pitstop about one of the minor characters seen in prior books, Gerald; the bodyguard/driver for the McCormick /Anterdec men. While this was a pleasant read, nothing stood out for me. Of course, there was a peek-in scene with Declan McCormick's wild and crazy mother-in-law Marie, and Declan himself has a large presence in the book, but I felt as if this book had very little purpose or ending.
Gerald, who is an armed forces vet, finds out he's inherited a rare relic from Afghanistan - something he actually helped smuggle to safety years prior while serving. The lawyer representing this inheritance just happens to be his former fiancee' whom he met while they were both still in the service. Former, yes, because Gerald left her with nothing but a note, a decade ago. Since then, she's been discharged, gone to law school and made a name for herself as a partner in a tony Boston law firm, who also represents Declan's mother's family trust.
The whole relic mystery is really never cleared up. Supposedly there's a curse attached, there's an evil former soldier who also wants his hand in this inheritance somehow, and a few other things that just left me hanging after Gerald decides what to do with the relic. I feel as if there was a whole lotta backstory that never quite comes to light. The two get together again in one meeting and wham bam, they're back together. While his reason for leaving her is ultimately honorable, she forgave the 10 year absence awfully quickly.
I'll be honest...I initially was not interested in reading this side story, but had downloaded it because I was afraid I might miss something if I went on to the next book about Shannon and Declan's baby without having read it. It was fine....you don't have to read this to go on with Shannon and Declan. I still enjoy this series...even if over-the -top Marie is sometimes too over-the-top for me. However, this one feels like it was just a way to make money off the already popular series, with really nothing to tell.

Ooooooooo! New characters!

Well, we actually have come across most of them in the previous books, but the main character here was a bit player until now. Former Navy Seal Gerald is patriarch James McCormick's driver that doubles as his bodyguard. He's also the driver that Declan models nude for in his sculpture classes that he teaches. You already know James & Declan are here, but we also get to see Marie (Shannon's mom), Agness (the old horny coot from Marie's yoga class), Vince (Andrew's personal trainer), & Carrie (Shannon's secret shopper arch nemesis). Our absolutely new character is Suzanne, also former Navy...as well as Gerald's ex-fiance. Suzanne hasn't hear from Gerald in 10 years, and since the break-up (over email of all thing!!) she's graduated college, law school, & made partner at her lawfirm. Everything is going somewhat smoothly in her life (other than her consistently miserable dates) until her boss tells her she has to deliver inheritance papers to - you guessed it - Gerald.

I love this series and I can't get enough. So funny. So sexy. A bit more real-life than some billionaire stories because of the "regular" people and the humor that relies on the billionaire "not understanding regular people lifestyles, everyday issues. Hilariously embarrassing things that happen to us peons IRL happen to the lowly mid-level income characters here. Cue "Celebrities: They're just like us!" type enthusiasm.

If you are a fan of the Billionaire series this is a part of (which let's face it, if you are on book 10, I would hope you are) you know what type of story you are about to get into. I will definitely be reading the Inheritance series (which this book is actually a crossover from) after I've finished the whole Shopping For a Billionaire series.

TLDR: this is book 10 of the Shopping for a Billionaire series. If you like the 9 before it, you will like this one.

By the title I imagined that this book would be either about a man or woman who needed to marry to produce an heir to help them inherit some old family property, a sort of english love story. It wasn't. They were americans. It was billed as a romantic comedy. It wasn't. Well if it was a comedy it passed me by for the whole book.

Suzanne and Gerald were navy seals and when they left the navy they were engaged to be married then he called it off. Ten years later they meet because Suzanne is a corporate lawyer and has to serve him some legal papers, he takes them and discovers that he is to inherit a jewel he smuggled out of Afghanistan and took it to someone with moral scruples because the other seal whom he was with when he found it, wanted to take it and melt it down for its worth. Gerald saw it for what it was, a priceless antiquity which should survive.

Anyway, enough of that, Gerald is now working as a chauffeur and bodyguard for a millionaire and also organising pottery classes outside of work, and the son of the said millionaire was a nude model for his classes. I don't really know why that bit is in the book really, ah maybe the comedy bit comes in here as the class is full of oldies who like to make sexist jokes about the model. No, I really didn't find that bit funny. The upshot is that he has never been out of love for Suzanne and they get it together again and all is well.

Romantic, well I suppose so in a sort of luke warm way, comedy, nah, well if it was a comedy story I didn't really pick that up at all, unless you count the sexist oldies in the pottery class. I think it should have a different title, this one is so misleading.

This is the first book by Julia Kent that I've read. I read many reviews of other books she's written and thought this would be a good one. I liked the blurb on Amazon, and this was part of a multi-author giveaway. No cost to read and I was happy to get it. Unfortunately, I didn't know this was part of a series and that I was coming in at book number 10.

I enjoyed this book. I thought the women in the art class were a hoot. Second chance romance is a great trope and I enjoyed that as well. What I found odd was, the book just stopped. Cliffhanger? Maybe, but I thought perhaps I was missing the last pages or the last chapter. There was no satisfactory resolution of issues that were pertinent to the story. Nope...at 87% on my tablet, the next book was introduced and Chapter One was there.

Just because I didn't like the abrupt ending, that's not enough for me to completely trash the book. So...I give it 3 stars. The writing was OK and the story was interesting Maybe that's why I feel disappointed. The story was good and I really want to know what happened. Also, the title is a bit misleading. Certainly Gerald was the heir, but I didn't get the feeling that there was a search for him. Maybe Suzanne was the one searching...or not. Too many questions left unanswered and if the resolution is in the next book, that's just weird.

Shopping for an Heir - Written by Julia Kent
Love of art gives Gerald more than he could have thought would ever happen to him!

Gerald Wright works for billionaires. He never imagined he'd become one. What did I like? This was a cute and easy read that kept my interest from page one till the last one turned.

What will you like? Awesome characters that will grow on you and a storyline that has so many twists and turns that you will have whiplash. It flows great and develops as it goes. The ending is just wonderful.

Not quite what I was expecting

Picked this up as a freebie, and even though the synopsis sounded very quirky, I wasn’t bowled over by either the characters, nor the subplot regarding the inheritance, which was a shame because it was a doozy of a plot device.

Suzanne’s blind dates were a hoot and a half, but the comic relief didn’t last long, nor did it play into meeting Gerald again after 10 years. I think there could have been a lot more done with this mischievous plot point - a wasted opportunity. Then there is the backstory of why Gerald dumped Suzanne, and I must admit, that was some weak tea.

Hints did heat up when Suzanne meets a loathed figure from her military days, but even that was over so quickly as Gerald rushed to the meeting for reasons other than rescuing he damsel (which is a point in his favour).

So to wrap things up, I did enjoy this enough that I’ll look for more books in the series at the library.
