Kristen Stewart says Robert Pattinson relationship wasn't real life

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson courted each other in character as Bella and Edward across several successful titles in the Twilight film series, but, as the actress has revealed in a new interview, the power couple’s real-life relationship wasn’t always picture-perfect.

Speaking to the New York Times’ style magazine, T, Stewart revealed that, while she understands living the life of a famous actress affords little privacy when it comes to her relationships, the overexposure of her coupling with Pattinson was more stressful than she ever anticipated.

“People wanted me and Rob to be together so badly that our relationship was made into a product. It wasn’t real life anymore. And that was gross to me,” the 26-year-old said. “It’s not that I want to hide who I am or hide anything I’m doing in my life. It’s that I don’t want to become a part of a story for entertainment value.”

Their multi-year relationship ended shortly after the final Twilight film was released, and Stewart has since made a name for herself on the prestige cinema scene, with starring roles in Olivier Assayas’ festival favorite Clouds of Sils Maria and Woody Allen’s latest comedy, Cafe Society. She will next appear in both the Cannes award-winning ghost story Personal Shopper and Ang Lee’s likely awards contender, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.

“I’m not the typical showman,” Stewart added. “But at the same time, I want so badly to expose myself. I want to be understood and I want to be seen, and I want to do that in the rawest, purest, most naked way I can.”

She also went into detail about her life after Pattinson, including her current, three-year relationship with visual effects producer Alicia Cargile.

“I would never talk about any of my relationships before, but once I started dating girls it seemed like there was an opportunity to represent something really positive,” she said. “I still want to protect my personal life, but I don’t want to seem like I’m protecting the idea, so that does sort of feel like I owe something to people.”
