Sooooo….this book was a hot mess. I mean I think I did this most of the time

I love a sweet and shy heroine. I love a heroine who is a damsel in distress and the hero is her knight in shining armor. What I don’t like is a heroine who is TSTL and continually makes bad decisions when she should know better.

►If you’ve been drinking and it’s after midnight, should you walk home ALONE?
►If you are kidnapped and somehow manage to escape, do you go home, pack you a bag and hightail it out of town, drop out of school and move 45 minutes away from your attack/attacker? (oh let’s not forget your shoes….)
►If you’ve been kidnapped and escaped, do you keep quiet and don’t tell anyone about it? Not the police, not your family, not your friends?
►Do you have unprotected sex with a guy you just met a few days ago because he SAYS he’s clean?
►If creepy stalker says he’s coming for you tonight do you get drunk at a party?
►If you’ve repeatedly had problems when you’ve been drinking (kidnapped and almost raped, twice) do you keep drinking?
►Do you keep your original kidnapping a secret from your boyfriend even though he begs you to tell him and you fight about it?

I could go on and on but I think it’s obvious I did not like the heroine.

Now, I loved Cale. He was so sweet and good to Lia. I don’t think she deserved him.

And then I thought I had the twist figured out but the author threw me a curve ball. But then it came back and I was right all along.

The best part of this book for me was the epilogue that was three years prior in Cale’s POV.

Lia was popular, a well-liked Sorority girl with a great life...until one night a terrifying incident changes the course of her life. Her life may seem boring to outsiders, but it's consistent and safe. She spends her time on her work and friendships, leaving no room for relationships with men. She'll never throw caution to the wind again...at least she didn't plan to until Cale arrived.
Cale has grown used to being left behind, everyone he has ever loved has left him and those that are in his life are users. His life is a lonely one, made better only by the success of his career. Meeting Lia wakes him up, he sees the war she's fighting; the fear in her eyes clouded only by her determination. He wants her to win that war, he wants to know her, but their dark pasts may be too interlinked.

"We played our parts well. Mine, the damsel in distress, and his, my knight in shining armor."

Talk about books that suck you in! Moth to a Flame is an early release of K. Webster's that is filled with the phenomenal characters, witty dialogue, and intense suspense she has become known for. I was hooked on Lia and her fear from the very start, I just knew it had to come back into her life and that made this book so hard to put down. Not only was Lia engaging, but her ability to leave her life behind brought a really interesting psychological aspect into the story. Then there's Cale, the hero with a past, the hero that makes you both excited and very wary as a reader. Their chemistry and secret pasts make you start second guessing this book so quickly and made for some serious twists. I found myself seeking out the answers for both of them and becoming more shocked as each guess I made about the ending turned up wrong. This is the kind of book where you are sucked into each character's life, you begin to think like them, and then everything flips around and you are sucker punched. While the twists totally messed with my head, I still felt the relationship blossoming between the two main characters and I loved the message they shared about second chances and overcoming your past.

“I feel like you’re the only one who sees me. To everyone else, I feel like I am just this ugly moth, just a fragment of who I used to be. But with you, I feel like you see me for more than that.”

The only complaint I have about this entire book is Lia's shoe obsession, for a girl interested in complete privacy and leaving her life behind, she sure owns a lot of shoes. Plus...hiding your identity is hard when you have an online shopping addiction! I can easily see readers being distracted by this one-track mind type of focus on shoes, but I promise it's worth pushing through.

If you're a fan of K. Webster or new to her books, Moth to a Flame is a shining example of her amazing and gripping style of writing. Like her previous novels I have read, this one has a plot that just gets thicker and thicker, before finally unwinding like a top, revealing everything you wanted to know. Both the main characters and the secondary characters have incredible depth and you will find yourself relating to them, despite the craziness of the overall story. I really suggest this one to all suspense novel fans, it's a quicker read, but worth it all the same.

☆☆☆☆ 4 Cale Stars ☆☆☆☆

MothToAFlame

Like a Moth to a Flame, I was instantly drawn and hooked to this book by K. Webster. It was suspenseful, thrilling, captivating, heartbreaking and steamy. Basically this book had it all. Kristi did an amazing job in this book as she took her readers on one thrilling suspensful ride filled with twist and turns but at the same time incorporating romance. In this romantic suspense, expect the unexpected as truths and secrets begins to unravel and where the past and presents collide. Can the past be truly forgotten? Can two broken people find hope and new love? Or will their love be burned like a moth to a flame?

Lia Finch's life was turned upside down when she was kidnapped by a stranger. Bound and gagged, her only hope was to fight back. When a series of events begins to unfold, Lia found herself escaping from her abductor. At that moment, the sweet and carefree Lia is gone and is replaced by a woman living in fear. For three years, Lia thought she could escape the memory of that night but she couldn't shake the feelings that continue to haunt her that is until she meets Cale. For some reason, this new stranger in town makes Lia feel safe and protected. So what happens when the danger that Lia thought she escaped from comes barraling back into her life. With new danger haunting her, can Lia overcome her fears or will she let it consume her? Can Cale save Lia from this new found threat or will he be too late?

Moth to a Flame is the first book that I have read from K. Webster and I can happily say it won't be my last. I really enjoyed this book as Kristi had me devouring this book in one sitting. It was a quick read that you cannot put down. How can you put down a book where there is a swoony book boyfriend like Cale who will go out of his way to ensure the safety of the woman he loves. And I might just say there is a scene in this book, that makes you want to say "Wow. what a first date." Being a city girl, Cale makes the outdoors and camping a lot more fun and steamy. The campfire might not only be the one that is heating up.. =)

DNF at 10%. I won't rate this book because I didn't get far enough. This girl was walking home one night and is knocked out, tied up and thrown into a car with someone obviously intent on at least rape and maybe murder. And, what is she thinking about, the shoes she is wearing and how much she loves them. In a moment of clarity, she manages to get her feet tangled in the steering wheel of the car, the bad guy crashes head on into another car and skids off the road. What is she thinking about? Her shoes, are they ruined? Potentially dead bad guy, potentially innocent dead people in the car they hit, but she's worried about her stilettos. Wow.

We skip to her in another town, seemingly having fled the scene of the accident, and what is she talking about, her shoes. I couldn't take it. Probably was a great book further in, but it was ruined for me.

Wow that was such a good read.

like a roller coaster journey from start to end.
Romance, hot bedroom action with a bit of hot camping tent action too, lol.
Gripping story from the start & an ending that brought contentment & completeness to the whole story.

The slight twist really threw me with an omg moment. Loved it.

Brilliant read, k Webster ;-) x

Lia is living a scared life after a horrible experience in college one dreadful night. She runs away and refuses to date anyone after dropping out of college and running away. Then she meets Cale one day, as sexy as he is, she's sticking to her no dating rule. Cale pursues Lia even when he finds her out on a date with someone else. Cale's protectiveness kicks in and he helps Lia out even though he's fuming mad she went out with someone else and keeps refusing to go out with him.

There are many twists and turns in Moth to a flame. I had the most 'holy hell' moments while reading this then I have in a long time. You will not be able to put this down once you start, make sure you have plenty of time so you can devour this in one sitting!!!

Kristi does it again! This book rocked! Lots of nail biting went on reading this. I can usually guess exactly what's coming, I was pleasantly surprised that all of my guesses were wrong. I loved Cale and Lia!

All I can say is AMAZE-BALLS!!!! Go Kristi with your badass self! I can't believe this was the fist book this author ever wrote. It was spectacular!!! 5 fabulous stars!!!

This was soo not up to my expectations of a K.Webster story that I double checked the cover! The storyline was ok. However, the thoughts and conersations were just "off". The interactions weren't written smoothly. I would choose a different K. Webster book to read. This the 1st I have not totally loved.

Lia is a typical college senior until one day, she is subjected to a horror that defines the rest of her life. Three years later, she has found some semblance of security and started to see the possibility of growing beyond her fear.

When she meets Cade, for whatever reason, he immediately sets her at ease, makes her feel safe. They have whirlwind romance. This is definitely a “love at first sight” story. But, they are such fun characters, and their passion burns so bright, that it didn’t bother me. Sometimes, life works that way, so why not see a fun story of fast love and courtship?

Lia’s past comes back to haunt her, but Cade is strong, confident, and possessive. He is determined to protect her and his alpha attitude will melt the panties off any woman, including the reader!

There is just enough thrill and suspense to keep the story moving at a fast pace, but it doesn’t leave the romance behind.

Lia’s relationship with Anj and “Pops” add to the book’s dynamic. They both love Lia, but are also determined to help her live a little. Anj is hilarious, and she had me laughing out loud on several occasions.

Eventually, Lia and Cade’s relationship is drastically challenged by a revelation that tears them apart. The foundation may be irreparably damaged.
W. Webster has delivered a really fun read. It’s fast paced, full of intrigue, and passion. I’ve always been a fan of her books. This isn’t my favorite, but that’s because it’s so hard to top her Breaking the Rules series! I really enjoyed this story and had a great time getting to know Lia and Cade!

K. Websters FIRST BOOK EVER? Whatttttt.

This book was amazing! Suspenseful, captivating, heartbreaking and yet filled with so much love your heart will BURST.

Cale Reeves --- Oh my, Oh my...
http://cdn4.teen.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/I-Want-To-Rub-My-Face-in-His-Face-Hot.gif

I'm a little obsessed with Cale quite frankly. He's the ultimate white knight despite having some dark moments in his past and he's beyond determined to fight for what's his. If he doesn't make you swoon or your ovaries go BOOM, than honey... I just don't know what will.

https://www.tumblr.com/search/He's%20so%20pretty%20I%20want%20to%20cry

Lia Finch tugged on my heart strings, big time! I felt so terrible for her and yet, so proud of her at the same time. She's so scared but something about Cale makes her want to step into the unknown -- of course she makes that step in the HOTTEST shoes on the planet. I'm sorry, but how do I get Lia's shoe collection in my house?
Damn girl.

The secondary characters in this book were great and really added to the overall feel of the story! Pops is adorable.

Now... THE SUSPENSE... Oh lord, the suspense! I loved this aspect of the book and craved answers. Do you know? or don't you? K Webster keeps you guessing until the very end.

Moth to a Flame is another great hit by K Webster. I knew from the moment that I read the prologue that I was going to be hooked, and I was. This book hit the ground running and never let up.

I really enjoyed Cale and Lia's relationship. It was definitely a love at first sight type of romance, but I think it was executed really well. Cale and Lia are both very passionate and I think that complemented one another really well.

Moth to a Flame was a sexy, intense, suspenseful read. It had some great twists and turns. I figured out pretty early on what was going on in the story, but I enjoyed watching the story unravel. There is nothing better than that moment when you realize that you were right about something all along!

Moth to a Flame is a quick but enjoyable read. If you are a K. Webster fan, you will not be disappointed. My only complaint is that I didn't want the story to end!

I adored this book! The strength Lia shows after everything she's been through is extraordinary. Cale is a whole lot of sexy and if he was real I'd stalk him! ;) I LOVE everything K Webster writes and I'll be a die hard fan for life. She's exceptionally talented at writing stories and always keeps me glued to the pages. I highly recommend this book to everyone. You won't be disappointed! If I could give more than 5 stars I would.

Fear can consume us, but when we let light in... our flame can burn bright again.

Moth to a Flame is full of suspense, tenderness and healing. Cale and Lia's story will restore your faith in love and destiny. These strong lead characters find inner strength while forgiving their pasts. We are all worthy of love. Being brave to open your heart is the first step.

K. Webster's delicately written story will captivate you from the very beginning. Five flame worthy stars!

I wish Goodreads would be updated with the hot new cover! I really liked this book. It’s suspenseful and sexy. It’s a little weird reading Kristi’s old stuff. I’ve read nearly all of the 100+ books she’s published, but I still have to go back every now and then for these old school ones. I haven’t found a single one that I haven’t enjoyed!

"Moth to a Flame" by K. Webster is a stand-alone book with a captivating and heartbreaking story.

Three years ago, Lia Finch was living her college life with friends and parties. But one night, after leaving a party and walking back to the university residence, she is kidnapped. Escaping after an accident, she runs away, gets away from it all, and starts a new life. Meeting the constructor, Cale, after a disagreement will make her think about whether to trust men again or to continue as one.

At the beginning of the story, you can't help but put yourself in her shoes and feel anguished for her. That part, I read it very quickly, and at least it didn't last long, because it's not a situation I would wish even on my enemies.

Moving on from that part, for me, Lia is the strongest person, and even though she has her fears, she tries to appease them. Getting to know Cale was the best part of the book because where Lia was getting to with that delivery guy was looking like a repeat of the past.

I was loving it, but OMG, when it was discovered who the kidnapper was, thought it was one person, although there is a dramatic turn of events. It was like a heart attack stabbing you in the heart at the same time.

But I love K Webster, this one knows how to handle stories perfectly, and I loved how the story closed. Now his angel was with him.

The Cinderella trilogy is up there as one of the best series of books I’ve ever read, I also LOVED Dirty Ugly Toy and Renner’s Rules was also enjoyable. K Webster is now up there as one of my go-to authors to read from, but Moth to a Flame was very disappointing. Whilst the plot had a decent premise, it was very predictable and lacking the usual flair, excitement and realness - despite the unrealistic lifestyles of some of the characters in her other book, there is usually a real likability and connection to be made with the protagonists.

This book lacked character altogether, considering it was about a stalker, it was also kind of creepy how Cale was instantly obsessed over Lia. I understand the concept of ‘love at first sight’ or even ‘infatuation at first sight’ and this has been pulled off brilliantly in the authors other novels, so I was very disappointed to see how riddled with cliched and cringeworthy concepts like Cale being ready to die for Lia precisely 3 days after making her acquaintance.

This book also gives very minimal detail/effort into building on the characters personalities, and whilst we are given a brief overview of their respective history, it is just lacking substance - why doesn’t Cale have any friends at all? It is also just unrealistic and ridiculous how much a distrustful and traumatised Lia who is not far off of being a recluse, is so quick to trust a man she had only just met too.

I will definitely continue to read from this author as I have been instilled with so much faith and admiration from her other work, but based on the capability level I know her to have, this book is very basic and not up to her usual standard therefore I would not recommend.

“Lia, I’m the moth and you are the flame. Your light burns so bright. I never had a chance. From the moment you maced me, I have been fluttering as close as I can get to you. Your fire enchants me, and I’d do anything to be near this fire, even if it meant death. Babe, you have to realize that what we have is so unique,” he said with conviction. “So don’t ever call yourself a moth again, Lia. You’re the damned fire shining to me like a beacon in the night. Wherever you go, I will follow.”

Will not be rating, but I will not be finishing either

“Girl, did you see what Beyoncé was wearing at the VMAs last night? she was so wrong for that. Don’t she know leggings don’t look good on a female after she’s had a baby?”

Upon first reading all I could think was ... wtf talks like that? Low and below I got my answer a few paragraphs later.

“. . .I looked over at Anj. She was a beautiful black girl, but she was as feisty as they come. She always had some ‘hot brotha’ she wanted to set me up with.”

As of 2019 can authors come to agreement that the feisty, black best friend is the most useless and underdeveloped trope in literature. You throw in a couple “girls” and I can all but see the neck roll IT’S TIRED. I will say this though it is my very first time reading the words “hot brotha”.

If you can’t write a black character then don’t write one cause they come out sounding just as stupid as Anj. I’d rather not have a minority in a book than have a dumb one, and this is coming from someone who LOVES K. Webster.
