Also writes under April Asher.

April Asher, aka April Hunt, was hooked on romantic stories from the time she first snuck a bodice-ripper romance out from her mom's bedside table. She now lives out her own happily-ever-after with her college-sweetheart husband, their two children, and a cat who thinks she's more dog—and human—than feline. By day, April dons dark blue nursing scrubs and drinks way too much caffeine. By night, she still consumes too much caffeine, but she does it with a laptop in hand, and from her favorite side of the couch.

From the far left cushion, April Asher pens laugh-out-loud romantic comedies with a paranormal twist, but when she’s not putting her characters into embarrassing situations with supernatural entities, she also writes high-octane romantic suspense as April Hunt, her thrill-seeking alter ego.

Heated Pursuit is April Hunt's debut novel, and I must say that she did a fantastic job with it. The story kept my interested and the characters were easy to like. Our heroine, Penny, was a sassy and spirited type of woman. She's also loyal, so when her niece is kidnapped she jumps right into the fight and heads to Honduras on a rescue mission. There she meets Rafe, the tough soldier with the charm of the devil.
"She was a complication in its truest form---and he didn't give a hundred fucks."

I liked these two together and their ability to flirt in the middle of running for their lives. It was really fun how the author kept the book light while also having that suspense aspect to it. Rafe and Penny had a very clear connection that I loved getting to see and from the first moment they met you could practically feel the sexual chemistry sizzling.

I did have a little issue is the middle of the book and it seemed to start dragging at times. I love the romantic suspense genre and it's what started me in my love of reading, so I've read a lot of it. Which means that now when I read it I need the book to have a little something extra than the usual plotlines. With this book I felt like there were one too many times that it got to be a little too cliche and it made me lose interest just a few times.

Despite my issues I definitely can't wait to read more from this author. She has some great secondary characters throughout this book and I hope we'll be seeing more of them soon.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Penny hasn't had a lot of close people in her life, so when her niece is kidnapped, she's booking passage on the first flight to Honduras.
Former Delta operative and now with the private Alpha Security group, Rafe has spent the majority of his life as a soldier. While on mission to shut down a drug lord, his path crosses with Penny and their worlds collide.
Its tropics, heat, attraction, and danger as Rafe and Penny battle for survival and their chemistry.

"You dirty up pretty good, Red."

April Hunt has debuted and I am here for it. Heated Pursuit, the first in the Alpha Security series, is romantic suspense that recycles a lot of sub-genre favorites: group of hot sexy military men, tough but vulnerable heroine, dangerous situations, sex in unrealistic side-eye moments, and villainy villains. There's nothing really new here but what it does well is give you what you paid for with the added bonus of fun, heart, and charm; tangibles that have been sadly absent in a lot of recent releases.

"Is this your way of telling me you're going to be touching my ass, Rafael Ortega? If it is, I should warn you that that perk better go both ways."

Penny is our tough but vulnerable heroine, she's a fairly new bail enforcement agent, so she has some moves but also winds up in over head and gives us some too stubborn for her own good annoyance. Her back story of cold uncaring father with absent mother was sketched out enough to make her trepidation towards Rafe believable if not deeply felt. She spoke her mind well and you'll like her spirited contributions to her conversations with Rafe.

He was bravery, loyalty, and a kick-ass attitude wrapped up in a six-and-a-half-foot mass of hard muscle.

Our hero Rafe is where this story is going to win you over. That heart and charm I was talking about, Rafe is its main source. He's the risk his life but never his heart alpha male that over saturates this sub-genre but crushes and kicks to the curb any cardboard cut-out notions. Rafe had personality, wit, and magnetism; he felt real to me and I found myself lusting right alongside Penny.

She was a complication in its truest form---and he didn't give a hundred fucks.

I loved these two together, whether they were engaging in back and forth dialogue, running for their lives, or having trouble keeping their hands off each other, their chemistry was always front and center. I do wish it could have taken them a little bit longer to hit the sheets and Rafe must have Viagra running through his veins instead of blood (seriously, let's tone it down with these Boneroes). I also really enjoyed how the secondary characters, mostly Rafe's Alpha Security team members with a couple friends of Penny thrown in, actually fit into the story and didn't feel like series baiting. They supported without cluttering or trying to steal the spotlight, we get introduced to all the men with enough personality given to each to make me want to read their own stories but didn't overwhelm. I would have liked Penny and Trey's (member of Alpha Security) past surrogate brother/sister relationship explained and explored more along with the appearance of Penny's Navy SEAL friend Vince, which ended up feeling very tagged on. The villain was a bit weak and the ratio of sex and story leans more towards sex but the action and story starts off right off the bat and I was with it every step of the way.

Like I said, there's not a lot new here, former military men looking to stop a madman from distributing a super drug while the heroine finds herself caught up in the crossfire, danger ensues, and lust and love with one of the men develops. However, even with its done before recipe, Heated Pursuit manages to break from the crowd and stand out with its humor and charm; this will reenergize and remind you why you love this sub-genre. I found it to be along the same lines as Tara Janzen’s Steele Street series, fast paced, fun, and hot.

The characters have character and the hero's charm is why we love reading about these good bad boys. As a debut, this has me super excited for future books in the series. The author's talent with chemistry between her characters is definitely evident and I look forward to her gaining confidence and experience to step outside the usual romantic suspense elements. There's a line in the book that I felt encapsulates it very well:
It was intimacy and total abandon disguised as a marathon of hot touches and hotter kisses.
I can't wait for the next in the series.

Alpha Security operative Rafe has an impressive background. Former Delta operative, he is now with a super secret group that goes in when there can't be government interference. Along with his team (of other very alpha men) he finds himself in Honduras to hunt down a gun/sex slave/bad dude drug cartel leader. His team has quietly been working to locate him for some time now. But the quiet time is going to come to an end.

Penny is a bounty hunter who is desperate to find her niece who was kidnapped by this drug cartel. She gets in some trouble in a bad part of town and Penny herself is abducted - but by Rafe and his men. They don't know what she is doing in this part of town, and they take her back to question her. When Trey, a teammate of Rafe's recognizes Penny as a woman he was raised with, they realize she isn't working for the bad guy. Penny is determined to find Rachel, and tries to prove her skills to Rafe and his men.

One of my favorite black-op military style romantic suspense series is Black Ops Inc by Cindy Gerard. That series is my gold standard that I hold others up to. This one has that fun, a little over the top feel to it - with men who are oozing testosterone out of their pores. I like a good solid, alpha black ops team that treat each other as brothers but also have that sharp banter. We get that generally here. I could have used a little more banter, or more time with just the guys hanging out but we had enough time with the others that I'm interested in their future books.

Penny has to be tough to hang with these guys who want to immediately send her back home. I felt like Penny definitely did not have the skill set to hang with these guys on a mission. She tries to prove herself - and I give her credit for that. I found it unrealistic the team leader would let her go in undercover with his elite group. There is a reason that these guys are part of this group - and Penny just doesn't have the training to even come close.

Rafe gets so many freaking boners in this book - that he leads with his dick, and not his brain. I think he was at half-mast through the entire book.

She was the ultimate weapon, had the ability to get him hard with an innocent look and singe his core with just a promise of a touch.

Guard your core, Rafe!

This is a very steamy romantic suspense. I felt like the sex and the amount of it fit the overall over the top feel to the book. I mean - Rafe had to do something with his constant hard-on.

Penny annoyed me a little bit with her running into black op missions in which she has zero training for. Rafe annoyed me a bit with his boner coming to life every time Penny looked his way. But otherwise it was fun and sexy.

Woo boy! *fans self* That cover! Goodness. Heated Pursuit? A sultry adventure through the Honduran jungle. Oh yes, it's a steamy good time.

Alright so the gist of it is that Penny has gone to Honduras looking for her niece who's been kidnapped. And manages to snag herself a whole alpha security team in the process. Hot dayum! Seems they have a similar mission. She just has to convince them to let her tag along, and, well, manage to keep her hands off the oh-so-sexy Rafe.

Rafe and Penny were fun. She's got that feisty determination going on, he's got the jaded growly alpha male thing happening. Together they steamed up pretty much every room they were in. The jungle, too. lol Yeah, the chemistry between them was thick. I liked how they worked together, too. Strong characters that were straight forward and honest.

I had a good time with Heated Pursuit but it did come across as a debut book. It's pretty typical rom-suspense and hit some cliches and kind of skimmed the surface of things but it was still pretty dang enjoyable. The characters and the group of people around them will so have me coming back for more. I really loved the team of operatives and their dynamic. Fast paced action, some steamy loving, some sass and growling, yep, good times.

I love suspenseful romance novels, so I was extremely excited to get my hands on this book! The first chapter of this book started off explosive, and I was very intrigued to see what would happen next. However, I was disappointed that this book turned into more of a romance novel with a sprinkle of suspense. I like it when books have a lot of suspense and action with a side of romance. Even though the sexy scenes in this book were very passionate and well written, I felt like it completely took over the plot. I would have like to have the sexy time dialed back a notch. I think the romance would have felt more believable and even more passionate if it developed at a slower pace. The romance and chemistry just felt very abrupt.

Even though this book was lacking in a lot of action scenes, I thought the author did a great job at writing suspenseful action when those moments came up. I felt like I was right there in the moment with the characters, and it had me on the edge of my seat! I think I would have enjoyed this book a lot more if the suspense was weaved throughout more of the story.

I liked how there was a large cast of characters. Penny and Rafe were the main characters, but there were a lot of side characters that I found very interesting. I would love to have stories involving some of the other men that worked with Rafe. The only issue I had with the male side characters was that they all seemed to fall in love with Penny within the first few chapters. It felt a bit forced and it almost made me want to roll my eyes. By the end of the story, I really liked all of their friendships with Penny, but I just wish their infatuation with her wouldn't have been so sudden.

Penny was an interesting main character. I thought she was loyal, passionate, dedicated, sassy, and funny! I did enjoy getting to know more about her. She always added some needed humor to a lot of the scenes in this book. I felt like she was a great main character for this story. The author really nailed her character. I will say that she became almost obsessed with Rafe right away, which was a bit ridiculous, but I still really liked her despite that. Rafe was a very typical alpha male character. He was very protective and very attractive. He made me swoon a few times, but he also was a little overbearing at times. I would have like to see his character develop a little bit more.

This book was a start to a series that I could see having a lot of potential. The sexy scenes were very steamy, but I wish they would have been less frequent so the author could have showed off her action writing skills a bit more. However, this was still a fun read as a whole. I am interested to see what happens in the rest of the series, and I hope they focus more on the suspense so they romance can develop at a slower pace.

Also, who else loves the cover of this book?! It is HOT!

Rafe has what i like to call selective hearing, where the man only heard what he wants too, "the lines around his mouth relaxed, and instead of steel blue, his eyes transformed to a warm cobalt. “Can we revisit that big-sexy-oaf comment?” I loved Rafe, “no one’s putting anything on my lady’s arse except me.” As if summoned, Rafe leaned against the doorway. Penny ran straight at him. He caught her easily, his palms giving her butt a firm squeeze as she instinctively wrapped her legs around his waist. “See? My hands. Your ***.” Rafe waited a beat before lifting a single eyebrow in question. “Well? Are you going to tell me how it went or am I going to have to guess?” I enjoyed this book, Rafe was a easy man to love.

Heated Pursuit is book one in the Alpha Security series by April Hunt. I picked this one up; because so many others raved about this book. I feel like I read a completely different book than what everyone else read. When I finished this one. I was like “Finally! It’s over!”

I won’t go so far as to say I hated it, but it did have too many things that bothered me. It also had some good stuff too, so there were positives and negatives, but it just didn’t work out for me as I was hoping.

What I liked:

- I liked the Alpha Security team.
- I liked that action and suspense.
- The last 20% of the book.

What I Didn’t Like:

- The start. It wasn’t a great start or introduction to the novel. I was a little puzzled and confused in the first few chapters.

- Penny. I had so many issues with our heroine. I never felt her character and she shouldn’t have been on the op. It just didn’t feel like she was qualified or read for this type of deal.

- In the beginning of the book she gets picked up by men in fatigues and hoods, so how does she know WHO these mystery men are? How does she know about the Alpha Security team? Yes, one of them is her brother and she knows that he is part of something, but how can she be so familiar with all the others; especially since she has been estranged from her brother for a long time (family issues). Question after question just from the first few pages.

- Next. The guys decide it’s a good idea to send a non-trainee undercover. (I was not feeling this; especially when she does some stupid things that almost blow their cover.) She was informed that their would be bugs everywhere in this bad guy's house and in every room and what does she do?

- Their where at least two intends where she almost blows their cover. The first time she get’s to their room and was about to get into it with Rafe about something. (Don’t remember the something) This something would have blown their cover sky-hi. How does Rafe save them? Well he kisses her and then they have mind blowing sex and then she realizes she was about to blow their cover. This is just one of the incidents in the book. Ahhhhh!

- Rafe and Penny have been in the jungle on the run for two days now. They somehow end up getting hot and heavy; kissing, clothes coming off, him about to go down on her. Can we just say, ewww! Almost sex, no clean clothes, no shower, no teeth cleaning. Totally turned me off. The only thing that stops this from happening is that he sees a bandage on her leg that he didn’t know about.

- Last, I never got a romance. Ya, these two have lust and boy is it combustible, but I never felt it go deeper than that.

Heated Pursuit wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t for me. I may or may not give the next book a try. It had some good things going for it, like the Alpha Security team and suspense, but when the lead character doesn't appeal, well you have a hard time enjoy the book.

Take a alpha male with the penchant to want to protect and lives to protect and a stubborn woman who doesn’t want that or someone who will only live to protect and put them together in the jungle fighting for survival and not just theirs and what do you get? this sexy hot in so many ways book that has you needing to cool off.

Rafe is a great guy. He is one that doesn’t get rattled easily but Penny manages to do this and more. She gets under his skin and has him wanting more than just the next mission to help others. She has him wanting to have a home and family. Rafe is part of a team of really sexy alpha men on a mission and Penny lands in the middle of it. She is after her niece and Rafe and his team is after those who have her. So reluctantly they team up not because it is best but because Penny is stubborn and doesn’t really give them a choice.

She shows them how feisty she is and scrappy. She is smart, stubborn and has a huge heart. It is this that attracts Rafe to her. As they are fighting to find her niece, and the one Rafe is after they have many things occur. Danger is everywhere and so is a mole. A mole that puts them all in the crosshairs and is after only money and power. In the meantime Rafe and Penny are in trouble and over their heads. Not just because of the situation they are in but because of their attraction. Penny tries to fight it due to a past that has her wary of people like Rafe-those who live to protect. Rafe only fears losing her and losing focus. They are off in the wild trying to survive and in so many ways. They love one another and discover this as they fight to live. We see these two go through so much on this dangerous ride to finding justice and her niece.

A story filled with passion, fighting demons in many ways, finding love and doing what is right. In following your feelings and seeing where they may lead and finding the one you respect and are meant to be with. We get to see the views of both Rafe and Penny and just how stubborn they both can be. We see them passionate, intimate and tender. the story is all that and filled with danger. The writing and characters draw you in and don’t let you go as you watch them fight for their life and what is right. A great sexy story.

Wow, a great book filled with suspense and some hot men!
Penny was walking through Honduras when she is grabbed and put in a secret hideout. She doesn't know what was going on only why she was there to bring back her niece from a notorious drug dealer. upon this, she meets Rafe and his Alpha security team as well as a familiar face Trey her friend/brother. Rafe doesn't know the feeling he is experienced but it has something to do with the redhead he met. He's never known a strong person as her and he isn't a relationship type but one look at Penny he is slowly changing that. This was filled with suspense and romance, keeping you on edge but loving the romance side. Now the team and Penny try to find her niece while taking down the drug dealer.

Overall I enjoyed as a romantic suspense. Another reviewer shelved it as “painfully ridiculous” and I have to agree that much of the plot was. But it was still enjoyable. Definitely fast moving and enough heat to legitimately call it a romance.

Heated Pursuit is more romance than suspense. I spent most of the time reading this book skipping the sex scenes that seem to fill the pages. The story is very basic with twist that readers will see coming before it happens.

The book starts off really fun and make readers excited for what is to come in the book. April Hunt falls into the sex because I don't know what else to do with my characters until the action scenes are needed.

With that being said April Hunt ability to create characters who are true from beginning to end. Never once as a reader question what Penny or Rafe were going to do because she was true to the characters. Penny is the saving grace of the book. She is feisty, smart, but is female with all her insecurities she keeps hidden as she fights to find her missing best friend. Rafe is your typically written alpha male who loses it when anyone threatens the woman he loves.

Me Tarzan You Jane Crap.

The author add humor in this area of the book making it stand out among the other Security/Mec/Alpha books. Where most stand on the same basic story April is able to bring humor at just the right time. Rafe has a heart and Penny can handle life's punches because of her fathers upbringing.

This book is 80% Sex and 20% story which I wish it was better balanced. After awhile I was pretty sure Rafe was a ranging hormonal teenager with a medical condition called the Endless Boner.

'Heated Pursuit’ is a very punchy read, with albeit rather stereotypical characters peppering the book: the alpha-type (pun intended), over-the-top, commitment free hero who gets turned by a heroine who pulls her own weight, in search of a missing target in an infamous drug lord’s reaches in the Honduran jungle. from the very start, it jumps straight into the action, wastes no time with unnecessary dallying and sweeps you up in the fast-paced manner while providing some kind of backstory to the characters’ histories while you run, huff and pant along with them.

There are some uneven spots, some really odd descriptions but it’s a solid debut nonetheless, adhering to the well-known tropes and structure of romantic suspense that didn’t surprise me but kept my interest well up to the end. I did come to expect more action though, and was mystified by how often Rafe’s erection got out of control (for some reason, men in these genres have a hard time keeping it down, yet manage to run around with permanent hard-ons) and Penny’s inability to resist him even when danger is supposed to be eclipsing everything else.

The writing—had it been set free from the number of distracting and somewhat unrealistic sex scenes—has a certain agility to it though and it’s what I’ve come to appreciate. April Hunt’s next book is waiting in the wings and with it, the potential of another fun (and hopefully better) run.

This is a new to me author so I wasn't sure what to expect. I can happily say I was completely blown away!! Then to find out this is her debut book - even more of my mind blown! This is a fantastic romantic suspense story and the beginning of what should be an amazing series. There are hot alphas, strong women, and suspense galore. Once I got started, I couldn't put this one down.

Alpha Security is an off the grid covert ops group that takes on the most clandestine jobs around. Rafe Ortega is one of the best in the group. His training and dedication is all he needs to take on any task. Yet the fiery redhead Penny Kline may be more than even he can handle. His attraction to her is immediate and primal but he isn't a man who can do relationships. His need to protect Penny has him and the rest of Alpha Security jumping in feet first to help her find her niece who she believes is being held by a ruthless Hondurian crime lord. Can Rafe manage to keep her safe and keep his head in the game or will his attraction to Penny be too distracting???

This is definitely a recommended read!

I was lucky enough to read this book early. Like... 2 years ago, early! I loved this book since the moment I read it, and then loved it more when I read it a few more times after it was edited. A hot alpha man running through the jungle while saving a feisty woman...what's not to love?

Fast paced and fun! Read it

April Hunt's Heated Pursuit is one hot, thrilling, alpha novel the likes of Maya Banks' KGI and Julie Ann Walker's BKI. I hadn't read anything from her before but was immediately hooked from the synopsis!

Penny Kline has made the drastic change from counselor to bounty hunter when the last member of her family, her beloved nice Rachel, is kidnapped by the kingpin of drug lords. Little did she expect to run in to alpha hottie Rafe Ortega on her mission to Honduras to infiltrate and rescue.

Let me tell you this little firecracker red-head was one of the best sassy female leads I've read in a long time. Penny holds her own and fights for what she believes in and has trained for in order to rescue Rachel. She's got one hell of a strong mind and pushes herself to cross lines she never would've imagined. Fighting deadly mean in alleyways, going undercover to a crime lords home, running through the jungle in a suicide mission; this girl does it all with no fear and mega-courage. I love, love, LOVED Penny.

Rafe was one hot-headed alpha; something we're used to seeing. But there was something different about him that made me like him. You DO see his caring side form the get go. Penny does try to drag it out of him, try to make him see it. But I liked that as a reader we got the chance to see his thought processes and how he saw Penny and the world around him. It was a lot brighter that he even thought himself. Plus he had just the right amount of bossy that would melt any girl. These two were a match made in jungle heaven!

I'm so excited for more the Alpha Security series from April Hunt! Trey's book is next (Penny's seemingly long lost somewhat foster brother). But i'm a bit more excited for Vince's or Charlie's book!!!

Very good romantic suspense novel. The F word is used practically on every page, so if that word offends you, you probably want to give this book a miss. That being said, the use of this word absolutely fit with the characters and the situation, so it was not a distraction to me at all. I couldn't put this book down.

Heated Pursuit was a great debut effort from April Hunt! This story hit the ground running from the very first page and kept up the pace straight through the last page.

Penny has a stubborn streak a mile wide so when her niece Rachel, the only family member she has left who is more like her sister, goes missing in Honduras, she doesn't hesitate to hop a plane to try to find her. While Penny may be a bail enforcement officer now, her background is in social work so hunting down a drug lord and human trafficker may be a biting off a lot more than she can chew... but remember that stubborn streak I mentioned? To borrow and paraphrase a line from a favorite movie of mine, she most definitely demonstrates more balls than brains. It doesn't take long before she is overpowered by 2 masked men and thrown into the back of a van despite putting up a decent fight. Fortunately for her, these are the good guys: enter the men of Alpha Security.

It’s a good thing Rafe Ortega isn't planning to procreate any time soon because the 5 foot nothing redheaded spitfire just put the family jewels in a death grip as he tried to get her into the van much to the amusement of his best friend and teammate Trey. The twist here is that Trey and Penny were raised as brother and sister which will really complicate things given Rafe's unexpected attraction to Penny and the bro code indicating sisters are off limits.

Alpha has been tasked with gathering intel on the cartel and its dangerous new product, and they have no intention of letting Penny compromise their mission. Rafe understands her need to rescue Rachel though and reluctantly agrees to allow her to help IF she can pass their tests in the field. Penny is one of those people who will never back down, and if you tell her she can't do something, she will work twice as hard to prove you wrong. That stubbornness can be both an asset and a weakness, and it turns out to be a little bit of both as the clock ticks on Rachel's imprisonment.

Neither Rafe or Penny is looking for a relationship but they find themselves falling deeper as the intensity of their circumstances ramps up, especially when they have to go undercover as a couple and go dark on all contact with the team. Rafe's line of work and lifestyle don't make it easy to have more than a one night stand, but he finds himself contemplating it more and more as the days pass. Penny has never had a man light her up with a single touch, but she has come in second place to the military too many times in her life so she is less than eager to do it again. Now Rafe finds himself in the unlikely position of trying to convince her to take a chance on him.

Heated Pursuit is filled with suspense, action, danger, sexy, swoony and smokin' hot moments, and family dynamics galore which made for a page turning read for me. The team members have formed their own family bonds and they each have secrets just waiting to be revealed. I am definitely looking forward to reading more from this author and will be eagerly awaiting the next book in the series featuring Trey.

This testosterone enhanced romantic mystery involves more than finding Diego Fuentes, the notorious leader of a drug cartel. Or stopping the shipment of a new designer drug guaranteed to make the drug lord incredibly wealthy and cause horrible problems to the people who end up being guinea pigs. Rafe and his group are there working covert ops for the government when what to their wandering eyes should appear?

A woman.

When you first meet a man you’re interested in, usually you try to avoid kicking him in the crotch. Just a good rule of thumb. But when you’re in Honduras casing a place you think your niece might be hidden in and you’re accosted from behind behind by a large man, you do what’s must expedient and ask for forgiveness later. Penny didn’t know the men who surrounded her were on her side. Luckily her surrogate big brother Trey was there to help her explain to the man she’d racked–Rafael Ortega. He didn’t know she’d left her job and was now a bond enforcement officer–you basic bounty hunter.

So Alpha Security was there to capture Diego and so was Penny. But her reason was to find her niece, Rachel, who’s been taken hostage and disappeared. It had been a month, and with the kind of people who’d kidnap a woman for the sex trade… She was either dead or wished she was. Penny couldn’t stand it, and she meant to find Rachel wherever she was and take her home.

How she proves herself and gets involved in the game only adds fodder to Rafael’s interest in her. But will they end up dead before they can get to know one another? Read it and find out!

The blistering suspense, along with hot temptation and long nights, leads these two characters to places they might not be ready for. But sometimes in life you have to step up and take a shot. Thanks!

The action in this book started from page one.... Penny is on a mission to find her cousin Rachel. The only real family that she has left according to her. Penny has a determination that most woman could only dream of and she shows it to us in leaps and bounds. She doesn't even back down after being manhandled and taken by the Hot Sexy Alpha Security.

Once Rafe and the boys finally get this little firecracker to talk to them, they discover they have a common mission. Finding Fuentes and stopping him and his new drug distribution. To bad he is a slippery guy and it is proving to be harder than they ever expected. Rafe is initially against letting Penny stick around and be involved, certain that she should be sent back home. Penny doesn't take to kindly to that and is willing to whatever it takes to stick around.

Will they be able to find Fuentes and save Rachel before it is too late? Can they stop the distribution of this new drug? Will a girl hardened from a life lived with a unemotional military father find herself falling for what she swore she would not?

As a debut book by April, I think she has loads going for her and can't wait to watch her writing grow as she shared with us more of Alpha Security. Give a new author a try, you just might like it.

I always love a good action romance and this had it in spades. Alpha Security is your typical private security/mercenary group working to take the assignments the government can’t sanction or be involved in. The beginning of this was rough and I almost stopped reading it; however, it does really pick up and it was worth sticking with it. I felt like April Hunt chopped off the beginning of her story in order to have an opener that was filled with action. The beginning and introduction to the characters was much too abrupt, especially with the addition of Penny and Trey knowing each other.

Rafe was a little overbearing in the beginning but it stems from his protectiveness and believing that Penny isn’t prepared to deal with Fuentes. As the book goes on, Rafe is much more likable and his support of Penny is great. The initial antagonism between Rafe and Penny was really strong, so it was weird that they so quickly jumped into a physical relationship and then started to work so well together.

Penny herself is one tough woman! She takes a pretty good beating throughout this book and keeps on fighting back. Her devotion to her niece (who is only a few years younger, so more like a sister) is strong and admirable considering Penny was willing to risk her life to bring Rachel home.

We got some brief glimpses into the other members and I look forward to their books, especially the very British, very sassy, team nerd Charlie.

Hang on to your seats dear reader because in Heated Pursuit, we are introduced to some really hot, sexy alpha males and a spunky heroine who can kick some major butt any day. Mix in a hunt for a missing friend that leads right smack in the middle of a drug ring, and you know that you are in for an intense and sexy ride.

The plot for Heated Pursuit was engaging and the characters complex and well-developed. Although this masterfully crafted story had most of the elements I crave in a romantic suspense, I would have like to have seen a lot more suspense and a lot less sex. Not that the sex is bad, heavens no....it was intense and hot! Sadly, I found myself skipping the hot and steamy parts just because there were too many and I found myself wanting to get to the heart of the story. Rafe and Penny are all over each other A LOT and I just became exhausted reading about it. Put all the sex aside though and Heated Pursuit was a wild and intense reading experience that left me wanting more.

Heated Pursuit was an amazing introduction to the Alpha Security series, and a spectacular debut by the talented April Hunt. It was exciting and engaging, and it had me hooked from beginning to end. I can’t wait to see where this series goes!

I've read many books similar to this one and it ticks all of the right boxes. Not bad for a debut novel at all and definitely set the tone as an "author I would read again" in the future. :)
You have your standard hot alpha male... the feisty heroine... a kidnapping... and the jungle. Mix all of that together and it's one hot steamy scene after another. A little Jungle Love anyone?? haha... sorry, just couldn't help myself!
This was definitely high on the sex and low on the suspense. I prefer my books to be more suspense focused with a dash of steam, so for me this was just a three star read. If you love books heavy on the steam then this is the book for you!
Pretty good start to this series... and yes, I will probably pick up the next book. Hot alpha males are kinda' hard to resist.

Whoa. HEATED PURSUIT starts with a bang and keeps on going until its fiery conclusion.

Penny’s mission to rescue her kidnapped niece from a drug cartel in Honduras is hijacked by Rafe, a member of an elite team of warriors called Alpha Security. The two join forces, and sparks soon fly. The steam of the tropics barely touches the heat that erupts between Penny and Rafe.

This book is full of action, and the hot, schmexy scenes left me swooning and fanning my face.
I thoroughly enjoyed this strong debut from a talented author, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the next book in this series has in store for readers.

Thank you Forever Romance and NetGalley for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

HEATED PURSUIT has the perfect balance of romance and accessible suspense. Both the plot and the chemistry between the hero and heroine are heart-pumping and page-turning. The author has a way with snappy dialogue, injecting hilarious one-liners as well as romantic gestures and soul-bearing confessions. The steam in the bedroom (or elsewhere) matches the humidity of the tropical jungle of the book's location. HOT! Highly recommend!

I really was trying to give this book a chance since it's the author's first book, but by a third of the way though I just couldn't force myself any further. The only thing I like about the story was that the female lead, Penny was actually in physical fights and came out of it in a somewhat realistic manner, neither helpless nor a ninja. And that was pretty much it. The lead male, Rafe was revolting. From the very first moment that he meets Penny, when he restrains her from behind, he is popping inappropriate boners and pressing them against her body, like some out of control pervert. How on earth is this supposed to be sexy? Penny, apparently finds Rafe so hot and irresistible she get's turned on by Rafe's ever present boners being pressed up against her, while it just made my skin crawl.

The plot had potential, but too many contrived sexual situations robbed the story of any believablity. Also the editing is shoddy. It really read like it was caught between edit sessions as there are awkward scene transitions and information isn't presented in an orderly fashion. It took a third of the book to explain what the deal was with her estranged brother and even then it was done in a clumsy manner that didn't explain much. At the point I quit, I still didn't understand how Penny was related to Rachael, the niece close enough in age to be a sibling as there was no mention of Penny having any other siblings. The dialogue is weak, too much of it expository and the prose filled with unfortunate attempts at original similes that often made little sense. Got to love an author who thinks that all you need to do to write a British character is to have them use the word "bloody" at least once in every sentence.

Heated Pursuit has hot, sexy alpha males, a spunky, determined heroine and evil drug lords. Everything needed to be hook a reader.

Rafe grew up in foster homes. It’s heartbreaking that he’s never known love. Not from parent and not from a woman. He’s tight with his Alpha Security buddies and functions well there so he’s not a lost cause. Penny’s father was a harsh, absent military man but she had loving caregivers and a close relationship with Trey, her foster brother and Alpha Security operator. Finding love is a bit of a challenge for Rafe and Penny, but I never believed their problems were insurmountable. Following their progression, and a regression or two, proved very interesting.

Penny arrives in the middle of Alpha’s Nicaraguan operation and is not a welcome surprise. She doesn’t have a clue her childhood friend and his group are already there. Her mission is to find her niece. Theirs is to take down the evil drug kingpin preparing to unleash a horrible new drug. Rafe has enough on his hands. He doesn’t need Penny in his way. His attraction for her is quick and makes the situation more complicated than it already was. In addition to trying to find the elusive Ortega, he finds himself working hard to protect Penny.

As the two pretend to be lovers to infiltrate Ortega’s operation their mutual attraction grows. The sex is hot and not an act. But it’s not just about sex with these two. Deep in the jungle, trying to elude Ortega’s men, they fall deeper for each other. Rafe is determined not to fall for Penny and fights his feelings throughout …until he can longer deny them.

The fight with armed gunmen, spectacular explosions, and traitorous lawmen is paced well and kept me wondering how in the world they would all get out of the situation and find their happily ever after.

Heated Pursuit is a good read with sympathetic characters and just the right amount of sex, love and danger.
