Shopper Stalker: New York City’s Upper East Side

Beauty Inc visits New York’s Upper East Side to scope out what luxury beauty shoppers are buying right now.

Shopper: Titi Tsvilynik
Mission: Invest in Eye Cream

Titi Tsvilynik, an economics major at NYU and self-professed makeup junkie, popped into her neighborhood Bloomingdale’s in pursuit of a luxurious eye cream. The 20-year-old admitted she doesn’t focus much on skincare, using only a moisturizer as part of her daily routine, but she’s ready to change that. “I read that women should use really expensive eye cream because it’s the area where [we] age the most,” said Tsvilynik. “I was like, ‘OK, I should do that.’” Tsvilynik devotes most of her beauty budget to bold lipsticks from YSL and Dior because she finds them long-lasting and she doesn’t hesitate to pay for quality. She spends about $3,000 to $5,000 annually on beauty products at Sephora and Bloomingdale’s. Though Tsvilynik prefers to try makeup on in-person rather than shop online, she heads to Instagram when it comes to inspiration. “When I see a new trend on Instagram, I always try it,” she said.

Shopper: Jessica Stark
Mission: Skin Care Stock-Up

Thirty-nine-year-old Jessica Stark, who runs her own marketing and branding agency, has been paying extra attention to her skin lately, experimenting with anti-aging remedies including laser treatments, Botox and other fillers. “In my twenties, I spent a ton of money on accessories and shoes, and now, I feel like I want to put everything toward the look of my face because I wear it every day,” said the shopper. Stark discovered Armani’s beauty offerings about a year-and-a-half ago, “when I really started getting into my face,” and stopped by the Armani counter at Bergdorf Goodman for a foundation refill. “I’m really focused on my skin texture and eyelashes,” Stark said of the clean makeup look she prefers. After getting a mini-facial from an Armani aesthetician at an in-store treatment room, Stark—who spends about $2,000 annually on makeup and skin-care products and swears by Armani—snapped up several skin-care items from the Armani Prima range, as well as four tubes of the brand’s newest mascara. “I’m a mom,” the shopper said of her haul. “I’m not coming back here for a while.”
