Irvine Vics have completed the signing of midfielder Grant Bolton - two months after he snubbed them to sign for Kilwinning Rangers.

The former Irvine Meadow star was on the Westenders' shopping list in the summer, but chose to join West Premier new boys Buffs after training with both clubs.

However, the move to Abbey Park didn't work out with the 22-year-old unable to force his way into manager Chris Strain's first team plans.

He left by mutual agreement two weeks ago and Vics boss Stevie Wilson moved quickly to secure his services, with the player penning a deal after training on Wednesday night.

Wilson said: "I'm very pleased to get this one over the line because Grant is someone we wanted to bring in the summer after his time at Meadow came to an end.

Bolton signed for Kilwinning Rangers in the summer but couldn't push his way into manager Chris Strain's first team plans

"He trained with us and enjoyed it but he had interest from other clubs including Kilwinning Rangers and he decided that he wanted to have another crack in the Premier League with them.

"That was understandable and I'd have probably done the same as a player because you want to test yourself at the highest level.

"When we heard he'd left Kilwinning a few weeks ago, we decided to revisit the whole situation and I'm delighted to say he's now an Irvine Vics player.

"He brings great energy to the middle of the park and he's coming at a good time for us because we're a bit short in that area due to injuries."

"He has an excellent pedigree, he was the captain at Harmony Row 21s and I know Stevie Rankin, who brought him to Meadow, thought very highly of him."

Bolton comes into the squad for Saturday's Super First Division home clash against leaders Kilsyth Rangers.

Wilson was left frustrated by his side's performance in last weekend's Irvine derby

Wilson knows his side are in for a tough afternoon and insists it's imperative his players shake off the disappointment of last weekend's derby defeat against Meadow.

"You have to recover quickly in this league and not dwell on the last result. We were far from our best against Meadow but I think when we are up against it we tend to perform better. Hopefully, that's the case against Kilsyth.

"The players are learning you can't get away with below-par performances in this division."
