For hundreds of years, women have worked to achieve basic rights at home, at work and in public life; rights which could be eroded when Britain leaves the European Union. We launched #FaceHerFuture with over 20 women's and equalities organisations as a collective call to action to defend our rights, and chart a course for a more equal, progressive future.

Do you believe in defending our rights post-Brexit?

• Guarantee women’s rights and promote a positive agenda for progress.
• See women represented throughout the process and at every level.
• Unite our communities and tackle racism, misogyny and all hate crime.
• Ensure women are not hit hardest if there is an economic downturn.

We are campaigning with other women's rights organisations to call on all political parties and those involved in EU negotiations to ensure women are equally and fairly represented at the decision making table.

What can you do to defend women's rights?

Our campaigning together is already making a difference. 

Thanks to our campaigning for #FaceHerFuture, the Government has committed not to erode working rights ahead of Brexit.

Peers from across the political spectrum stood up to support our call for amendments to the European Union (Withdrawal) Bill, at a House of Lords debate focused on gender equality issues recently.

Among them, Baroness Altman (Conservative) said: "Brexit must not put women’s progress and prosperity at risk. It must also not dilute parental and paternity rights." We also saw support from Lord Pannick (cross bench), Lord Cashman (Labour), Baroness Ludford (Liberal Democrat), and Lord Kirkhope (Conservative). 

Most significantly, Lord Duncan, the Minister in charge of responding to the amendments tabled, gave "a categorical assurance that there shall be no erosion of the working time directive".

This is a significant step forward, and will make it harder to roll back significant worker rights. As peers return to vote on amendments to the Bill in April, Fawcett will continue our #FaceHerFuture work to ensure a more progressive post-Brexit future for us all. Keep supporting us by getting up to date on our latest briefings below and becoming a member today.
