Evi Devil.
Yes, that’s really my name.
The irony is not lost on me.
I was created from two evil souls and have the name to prove it.
Devil worshipers, perverts, murderer. Is all terms used to describe the parents I refuse to remember. My mind won’t allow me to.
And why would I want to?
One born of dirty blood running through her veins can never truly be clean from its murky hue.
No matter what they try to tell me happened in my past, my mind denies me access, therefore how can I know it’s true?
How can I believe that’s what I’m born from?
Glimpses of my past haunt me, the screams of terror echo in the silent darkness of my memories, trying to remind me that my Mother went from room to room butchering our family.
I’ve learned from scars that I suffered abuse and that my Father and siblings weren’t my Mother’s only victims.
Hearing what they tell me.
Reading the words printed in the papers. None of it can prepare me for what’s to come.
My biggest lesson is learning that some memories we suppress for a reason.

Five shiny blazing stars! This book blows your mind! Too many twists, mind games force you question your own reality! I loved the final twist. Mostly I was expecting some parts of it but it was so freaking good.
I love Evi and Max’s story and their unconditional connection. It’s sad but great revenge story which is written meticulously.
If you love surprises, mind frying, captivating , dark thriller books that take your breath away, Devil is on your side. Why are you waiting for? Go on, read it! You never regret, trust me!

4.5 “THUD” STARS

description

This was a very good dark read and I find myself feeling ashamed that the only thing holding me back from the full 5 Stars on this that I’m guilty of wanting more of the inner working of Evi’s family life. I found them eerily interesting and would have liked more background on them.

Evi Devil is some heroine and her flip-flopping from a character that you want to protect and one that you are not too sure is completely innocent makes things very interesting. Evi seems to have forgetten a lot about her past and so the story takes us on a very suspenseful journey.

"My heart flutters like the trapped wings of a bird in a cage that’s too small. I know the wings will get damaged, but the fight to be free is worth the bruises. ”

description

The story made for a very exciting read one in which I would totally recommend.

"What makes a monster not a monster?” I snuffle.

"A monster’s not a monster when it’s loved, Evi.”

Genre: Dark Suspense
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Female
Rating:

Evi Devil was lost in between her own memories. She often woke up from snippets of vision, not knowing which one the truth and which one was the fabrication of her mind. One thing for certain, her past was violent one. With the help of someone from her past, it was up to her to uncover the truth, no matter how dangerous and painful it could be.

I want to become water, seep into his skin and live just under the surface, feeling his blood rush through his veins every day for the rest of my life.

I felt sorry for Evi. Being in her situation must have been confusing and scary. It required a lot of inner strength to survive what she's been through.

You might not remember me, Evi. You might not remember us, but I do. Every single detail.

Max was an interesting character. I like how supportive and patient he was with her.

“I’m damaged,” I whisper without thought. Smiling down at me, he speaks with affection, making love to each word .
“Frayed at the edges maybe. The colors distorted. But still a masterpiece.”

I love reading suspense books with the character having memory issue. It made it interesting trying to figure out the truth and this book will make you speculate until you get the answers. I enjoyed delving into the characters' past and possible motives with the darkness that surrounded them.

Devil is a story of a woman trying to mend the shattered pieces of her past. It would appeal to readers who enjoy dark suspense with a hint of romance.

I don’t feel like a complete person. I’m particles of a whole but the whole is fragmented and floating like dust particles caught in the stream of light, visible only when it shines through a crack in a window.
- Evi

➳ I loved the idea of this book, but the delivery...

MzupC.gif

I didn't really connect with any of the characters and by the 40% mark, reading this book felt more like a chore. I kept picking this book up then putting it back down, but this story had great reviews so I powered through until the end.

I didn't mind Evi's hyper-sexual mental set and dark sarcasm because at times she was entertaining. For me, depth was lacking and Evi's thoughts were on a continuous loop for the entire book: sex, self-loathing, confusion, cleanse, repeat. The chapter titles seemed a bit exaggerated for most of the book until the last 20 pages, and then everything made perfect sense.

Triggers? Yes.

➳ Overall, an okay read. Maxwell was hot, but even the ending was tied up too neatly.

Dark, Haunting & Hypnotic

DEVIL: is a standalone suspenseful, dark novel by Ker Dukey. This review is going to be a no frills review where I'm pretty much not even going to write up the review how I normally would, this is Evi's story and it's not a pretty story.

In the ‘Prologue' we’re introduced to twenty-one year old Evi sitting in her therapists office trying in vain to go back in her mind when she woke up outside of her house near death, aged 9, stabbed, losing a lot of blood to waking up in the hospital with no memory of what took place that fateful night.

Authors Warning
This title deals with some sensitive subject matter and should be read with caution.
If you’re a Ker Dukey reader/fan already, ignore this warning, as you’re fucked up enough to not need it. 😂

Chapter by chapter like Evi we slowly try and piece the pieces of her mind back together again, but in order to do that she needs to go back, back to where it all happened, back to where her whole family met their demise. Enjoy the ride!!

Ever read a book then it comes to writing up your review and you sit back and wonder what the fuck had you just read? Yeah me neither!! In all seriousness though this book sent my mind into a tailspin, I didn't know what was happening from one minute to the next, you have to keep your wits about you because it does flit from memory to memory to distorted memory as she tried to piece them all back together again like a jigsaw missing a few pieces.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

This book had all the twists and turns you could expect from Ker Dukey, would I call it dark, yes, but she doesn't unleash the darkness on us unsuspecting souls until you near the end of the book, the suspense was there in buckets. Don't go into this thinking you know what's going to happen because believe me you'll be wrong. So very very wrong!! don't read reviews if they have divulged spoilers. This book is best read when you go in blind, expect one fucked up mother of a train wreck of a crazy assed ride, an unputdownable suspenseful dark, gritty read.

"If you stare so far into the darkness, maybe the darkness starts staring back at you."

Well, it was an unexpected read! When I started reading it I didn’t think I enjoy it this much! The story is about a twenty-one-year girl, Evi Devil! She thinks she lives in a lake house that inherited it from her parents that adopted her when she was nine years old. She doesn’t remember anything about her birth parents, so a therapist helps her to remember her repressed memories and let me tell you that was so unexpected for me (the things that I read after that)! I can’t tell you anything else for not spoiling the story but it's worth reading! My only problem with this one was

Told in Evi’s POV (except the Epilogue), 1st person. It’s well-written and a stand-alone novel. I assure you, its curiosity draws you. All in all, I enjoyed it and hope you like it as well!

Wow, did I enjoy this book! I have such a soft spot for the author's that created "Benny" from The Doll series, so naturally I just had to pick up this one from Ker Dukey. I have read a few other books of hers in the past, and I always know that when I read one of her books; I need to always expect the unexpected...and also expect a dark read! I definitely got both in the pages of "Devil."

Evi Devil is a character that is intriguing from the beginning. Through out the story I found that the more I read on, the more questions arose in my mind. Evi comes from a real sketchy past, full of abuse and violence of some kind. Her biggest hurdle in life is that she doesn't remember her life before the major trauma that happened to her when she was 9. She suffers from sleep walking, and flashes of something bad happening...but she has no answers, and she wants to find out what happened.

As the story progresses, we meet Max...and let me tell you...I quite loved Max!!! He was perfect for Evi, and just so darn supportive! I don't want to say too much about anything. I went into this one blind, and I think it is best to go in with very little information. As the story unfolds, more and more of the pieces of the puzzle begin to make sense...but truthfully, it isn't until the end that the whole puzzle is revealed! I love reading books like that, and this was perfect in my eyes!!

If you are a reader who enjoys stories that are outside of the box, dark, and suspenseful...then definitely give this a go. Ker Dukey does an amazing job of spinning a tale...and she will have you questioning everything that is going on in the crazy world she creates!!!!! I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

Evi Devil suffered abuse and a life-altering experience when she was a only 9 years old. Since then, Evi adapted as best as she could despite her memories but as she turns 21, an event triggers her need to get answers and finally reconcile what she’s felt for all these years. Returning to the place of origin, Evi’s quest painfully begins.

“I don’t feel like a complete person. I’m particles of a whole but the whole is fragmented and floating like dust particles caught in the stream of light, visible only when it shines through a crack in the window."

As Evi becomes reacquainted with Max, a friend from the past, she feels a deep connection with him but her mind won’t budge as to the closeness they share. Sensing Evi is in a precarious situation, Max is sensitive to her emotions and tries to help her in every way he knows how.

“He was a good thing in my life before; I can feel it deep in my soul.”

In addition to their friendship, Evi is incredibly attracted to Max which she doesn’t try to hide from him. While Max doesn’t want to push Evi in the wrong direction, he isn’t afraid to give Evi exactly what she wants. With Max’s honed to perfection body and need to envelop Evi, their sexual chemistry is palpable and leads to unadulterated hot times.

“His palms move down to my ass cheeks, squeezing and guiding me up and over him, skin slapping skin and the wet juices slurping as he plunges so deep inside me he may never be able to leave.”

Told from Evi’s perspective, Devil sets an insidious tone from the first page. Getting inside Evi’s mind is a perilous investment due to the feeling of uncertainty and there isn’t any other option but to empathize with her memories and emotions. Creating a character like Evi is complex because while she has vulnerabilities and self-doubt, she is also a survivor in need of a re-boot. With the addition of Max, his measured and easy personality compliments Evi by giving her the space and comfort she so desperately needs.

With the character highs and lows, I felt every moment whether it was despair, lust, anger or affection. In trying to decipher clues, the suspenseful plot arrangement and steady pace intensifies the need for answers within a richly layered narrative. Evi’s plight isn’t easy yet I was with her the entire way. Additionally, Max’s tenderness is absolutely endearing and panty melting.

In Devil, Ker Dukey successfully brings the reader into the unsteady mind of a character that is struggling to find normalcy. It’s a story that is atmospherically tragic yet offers hope and a chance to find contentment in a uniquely moving way. For those who enjoy twisty suspense, Devil offers a powerful dose of sentiment and thrill. I highly recommend!

This story had so much potential.

❥ Crazy Evi Devil
❥ Sweet Max
❥ a truly dark, twisted, haunting story
❥ and weirdly poetic prose interspersed between the chaos

Highlighted lines:
“You don’t need saving, Evi. You needed to be found.

“You are beautiful, Evi. But love doesn’t see with its eyes, hear with sound, feel with touch; it connects with its mind, and once it does, there’s no going back.”

I wish more time was spent on the trauma Evi suffered. It obviously tormented her into a fractured human being. I found it hard to tell what was real and what was Evi's delusion and I think that was my favorite thing about this story.

"You are beautiful, Evi. But love doesn’t see with its eyes, hear with sound, feel with touch; it connects with its mind, and once it does, there’s no going back."

"I have demons, Evi, but you bring them to their knees." "Why?" I honestly need to know. "To worship their queen."

Hahahaha
Algumas revelações me surpreenderam e outras eu meio que esperava.
Adorei o enredo, a escrita como sempre é fluída e a narrativa cativante e viciante.

"Remember, the devil wasn’t always shrouded in darkness, Evi. He was once an angel."

E mais uma vez repetindo: EU AMO ESSA AUTORA!!! <3

i really liked the plot of this one, very dark and very twisty - unfortunately, what i didn't particularly like was the writing. it was often jerky and amateurish, and whereas it had nice turns of phrase here and there, it needed far more editing for it to run smoothly.

Everytime.
Every-f*-time.
Ker Dukey always blows my mind.

When I read the prologue I got goosebumps  and a feeling that this book would be good. I had a lot of theories and I thought one of them would be real, not ALL of them!!

I will tell you nothing. Go and find for yourself how great this is. This kept me hooked. I didn't want to finish it fast.

This was different. This was captivating. This was crazy and full of suspense. It has that kind of story that makes my heart race because is SO GOOD!!! I loved trying to figure out what happened and loved how it ended.

So, Ker Dukey, as Evi would say: thank you. This was amazing.

And dark romance fans? You won't be disappointed. I highly recommend it.

Toda vez.
TODA vez.
Ker Dukey sempre me deixa fascinada.

E fãs do dark romance? Vocês não ficarão desapontados. Recomendo demais.

Evi would just like to know who she is, who was her familly and what happened. She lost memory at age nine because of great trauma. She has this dreams and doesn't know if they are real from her past or just dreams. She is sleepwalking (don't mention I know how it looks like if you have sleepwalker at home and belive me it doesn't have nothing with full moon) and half the time she doesn't know if she is dreaming or she is wake up.
I like the writing style; and I haven't expected this ending, not in this extent.

Oh my geez....

That was a mind hump of epic proportions.

I don't even know what to say other than Ker Dukey once again takes us on a mind blowing ride with Evi. Her past is really really screwed up. Her present feels like an erotic blur. Luckily she doesn't remember the past, and has the water to calm her present. Will you read this book and help Evi remember her past? Does she actually want to remember it?

If you like dark suspenseful romance then I would absolutely read this story. It's full of triggers, but it is so worth the read.

Genre: Dark Romance

It's been a while since I have read a Ker Dukey novel and I feel like I missed out! Her books are dark, dangerous, and filled with characters that cross the line between good and evil. Their circumstances are what causes them to tread this line though, and the author proves it through her writing making us readers sympathetic even when we don't want to be...

In Devil, readers are going to meet Evi Devil- a very unreliable character who has severely suffered from her past. This suffering carries her through the novel and leads her (and us readers) down a very dark and twisted path. There will me moments when you will think to yourself "is this real, is it not?" and moments of clarity. But be prepared for the unexpected as it is much darker than you would anticipate.

Another character that readers will meet is Max. He is a boy from Evi's past that was somewhat of a haven for her. I think many readers are going to like his character, even if their relationship happens quite fast (which can become unrealistic to readers of romance). One way for me to explain their relationship is to say that he is the light to her darkness.

In the blurb, you will get a good glimpse of what the story is going to be about so I really don't need to summarize it for readers. But I want to give you fair warning that these characters and the things that prompt their judgement, actions, and emotions are dark. There are mentions of abuse. There are mentions of brutal killings. And here are a lot of over the top erotic fantasies being played out in the pages and in Evi's mind. So I would advise readers being 18+.

Overall, this is a good and solid book. Unfortunately, it was really slow to pick up. I think it took me to about 60% before I actually felt something for the novel. Normally, I would have put the book down at this point but I knew Ker Dukey wouldn't disappoint and that the twist would soon show. Thankfully it did, and I wasn't disappointed with it! I think many readers will enjoy it as well so I implore you to keep reading even if it looks like it isn't going anywhere- because it does, and it's the best part of the story!

This was one of the most dark and twisted story that I have read in quite awhile. I LOVED IT!
Our main character Evi has been put through an unbelievable hell till she is nine years old. She was tortured, traumatized, physically and sexually abused. Not just by her parents, her siblings as well.
During one shocking night she is stabbed and is finally rescued. Adopted to loving parents she goes on with her life. Then something happens and her mind fractures. We go on a journey with Evi to come back to reality. This one is definitely not for the faint of heart but if you can handle it, I truly suggest you read it.

**Trigger Warning**

Just give me a moment to comprehend what just happened.

First off, this was a buddy read with my girl, Anonymous Girl. We will forever be reading dark novels together LOL. got to say, I love my dark, intense stories.

I think I should start with the flaws first before I give the good side of the review.

This book started out so slow. It literally took until 45% into the book for me to truly see the intensity that it could have. I also saw how the world building in the beginning half of this book was not done the best that I thought it could have. But looking back I understand what the author was trying to do in creating those holes in the story. But at the time it was very annoying and created a very boring start to the story.

I applaud this authors sensitivity, but also truth behind the abuse that Evi endured.

I recently read a book titled RIP by Chasity B. And that was the first true book that gave me an idea of what my boundaries are with the incestual abuse that happens within my reading. Ker Dukey provided a brutal image of what Evi endured and how it effected her, but created a sensitivity to the vivid abuse she had went through. I was worried for a second but it was written very well in that respects.

Can we talk about that ENDING! I was on the edge of my freaking seat that entire last couple chapters, like omg. I had a theory about what actually happened at 59% and I told my buddy read, Anonymous Girl, to mark 59%in the book as the point I figured it out if it was correct. And y’all....

I was half correct! I love that! Give me shock and give me the intensity I don’t even know is coming.

I also love the epilogue! It wasn’t some overly “happy go lucky” type of epilogue. It was flawed for these flawed characters and it was done so well. Simple, yet satisfying.

Overall I was pissed about how long it took me to get into the book cause kinda boring at times. But looking back now, IT MAKES SENSE. But if I was a constant DNF reader, I would’ve in fact not finished so that lowered my rating for sure.

4.0 star rating.

4.5 mind blown stars!!! I am sitting here like WTF?!?! I thought I knew what was going on but I had NO idea!

This is a stand alone and if you are into dark, crazy, sexy, total edge of your seat shit then please read this!!

😈This is Evi's story....

My past is forgotten yet it haunts me daily. I just want to remember and move on. I know it was bad but the day I opened my mothers box is the day all my secrets spilled out...

💭My Thoughts...

Ok I have so much to say!! First of all I totally love the take on her name "Evi" and with that being said I love the title and name of book!! Now I have a ton of quotes saved for this review and when I went back to retrieve them I realized I can't put any of them on here. Why you ask?! Well because this story is crazy good, it takes you on this journey and one clue will ruin it all. I wish I could dish out the sexy guys and such but you aren't getting shit out of me!! Omg that makes for a great book! Like always this author has a way with darkness and words. The first quarter of the book I was just kinda lost I feel but then shit got real and I did not put this book down!! Let me say with all the craziness it also had some very naughty/yummy scenes. Be ready for triggers as well, this isn't rainbows and unicorns (but I think it was perfect love story)....

Ok so this book was just out of the ordinary. I've never heard of this author before but the blurb intrigued me. This book had me enthralled till the very end.

This is a story about Evi Devil told from her POV. She has no memory before 9 years old after sustaining a traumatic injury. We are taken on a journey as she struggles to recover what she has lost. Just to be clear, this book does not focus on amnesia but rather on her determination to remember. I will say this was one mindfuck of a book, just when you think you have figured it out , something else is thrown at you.

I don't want to give much away but this book had me guessing.

Amazing. This is truly an amazing read. I sat and read this as soon as it hit my kindle. I had a feeling it was gonna be good but it was a brilliant read.

I loved Max. I felt so sorry for Evi and was so proud of how strong she was. These two are my favourite characters that I've read so far this year.

No clues about the story from me. You just gotta read it for yourself. The author had me thinking the story was gonna go one way and then bam it was going another way. The twists kept coming and had me in the edge of my seat.

I'm so looking forward to reading more from this author.

Evil Devil's life is caught in between life, dreams and nightmares. What is real may not be and what shouldn't be real is a horror show for Evi and her fragile mind.

Life has never been on Evi's side since the day she was born. The Devil family is exactly what their name stands for and they are the epitome of dark, evil, vile people.

As Evi's mind splinters between reality and nightmares, she finds her way to Max. A piece of her life that was real and pure and all things good. Max becomes Evi's savior in ways she will never see coming.

"With our darkness and light combined we create an endless night sky and together we will soar."

A wade through dark, murky waters. Twisted memories and darkness haunts the soil beneath her feet. This book will mess up your thoughts, just how I like it!!

I love unpredictable plots and I especially loved flawed, delusional characters. The pace is set with almost a vivid yet confusing dark event. I was instantly hooked from page one. The scrambling of brains and memories surfaced at pristine times, setting you up for false conclusions and a sense of dread. I wanted all the dirty details, no, I needed all the events that led to a sexual, broken girl on the verge of insanity. The blurry lines were marvelously crossed and clarity was at my fingertips, begging for more.

Another twisted hit from Ker Dukey!

Well, what a book I have to say for me Devil is for me one of my top reads for 2017.
I am not going to go into details just know you have to read this one.
It is so different from what I have read from Ker’ before but it is so good. It really messed with my head. I thought I had it figured out and I was wrong it will keep you guessing throughout I did not see the twists and turns...
I really liked Max and Evi you just want to hug and take Evi away from everything and her family argh I will not spoil it.
This book is a must read from Ker and if you have never read anything from Ker before jump right in and give this a read you will not be disappointed. So well written and characters you will fall in love with.

4,5.
" My soul has known yours before we were put here on Earth and it will love you long after we leave it. Whether you stay with me or leave me to go back to your life, I’ll find you again. I promise."
Adorei!
