COLUMBUS (WCMH)–Hundreds of family members, friends and loved ones turned out for Tyre King’s visitation and funeral Saturday morning.

It was held at the First Church of God on Refugee Road.

Tyre King’s cousin Mikayla Swan said she was happy to see such a large number of people come to the service. Swan said she holds on to the memories she has of King.

“One thing I remember about him is his smile,” she said. “And he always used to tell me to stay out of trouble.

“It’s just hard. It’s unreal to me. It’s unbelievable.”

It was more than a week ago on a Wednesday night in a near East Side alley where King was shot and killed by a Columbus Police officer.

Officers were responding to a report of a robbery.

Police say King was with some males who matched the robbery suspects’ description.

When police tried to take them into custody officers say King pulled a gun from his waistband.

Police shot King, and he died a short time later.

Police say that the gun he had was actually a BB gun.
