Forum set for Tuesday on new education law

A community forum is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday about a new federal education law.

The forum will be at the Lafayette Public Library, 301 West Congress St.

Hosted by the Louisiana Association of Educators, the forum is open to all parents, teachers, school employees and community members.

The main topic will be the Every Student Succeeds Act, the law that will eventually govern public education in the U.S.

“The ESSA requires state education policymakers to engage school stakeholders in the decisions surrounding the law’s enactment,” the LAE said in a meeting announcement. “Leaders of the Louisiana Association of Educators will host a community discussion in order to ensure that the authentic feedback of rank and file community members, parents and teachers is taken into consideration in the state’s implementation of the new law”
