A SAINT.
A protector from evil. One who without fear will lead you safely through darkness.
LOS SANTOS.
Cold and ruthless. A CARTEL who cares only for revenge and glory.
My name is Nina Cross, and I’m the Los Santos’s newest prey. Determined to prove my partners innocence and avenge his violent death, I stumbled naively into the spider’s web. Tangled with lies and hunted for truth I was shadowed with each step I took. That was until one man, relentless in his touch and his desire threatened to bring me to my knees in ways I both craved and feared.

When the FBI turns it back on you and Los Santos cartel have already dug your grave, who is there left to trust?
Only one man. A saviour.

A man with many names…

Well, that was a wee bit heart pumping. I just finished Never Trust a Saint in one day. I don’t get to read all day much anymore. You know the drill, life gets in the way, people to see, places to go, all the other stuff that gets put ahead of reading. But today, my little man went off to his first overnight camp. Of course, he’s not stressed at all. I hardly even got a goodbye hug from him. Bloody boys, don’t they realise it’s HARD. Mum’s worry. Anyways…I was a little bit sad. No tears mind you just an underlying worry that he might get there and realise he does miss me. I know Ha bloody HA…AS IF!! So, to distract me from my worry I started reading and boy did I get sucked in.

I realised quickly that I needed to have my wits about me. The pace is fast, the explanations come to you rapid fire and the names whiz by if you’re not paying attention. I don’t read books like this one very often and I was surprised how much I was into it. There are rival gangs, FBI agents and drug lords to keep note of. Borders and areas mapped out for distributions and places where productions take place. It was explained well, but at times I had to re-read to make sure I got it all straight.

Nina is an FBI agent who specialises in fraud and money laundering. She and her partner of a year Garcia, are good friends as well. When a tragedy happens and Garcia is killed, Nina starts asking questions. Unfortunately, she asks too many questions to the wrong people. Next thing she knows she’s the target of a drug cartel. It’s time for Nina to GO WIDE – AKA – Get the F#*K out of town.

Who can she trust? Who should she turn to? One man charges into her life when she needs him the most. Who is he? Who does he work for? Why is he helping her?

The man with many names is a bit of a ghost. He steps out of the shadows when Nina needs him, takes out the baddies when she’s at risk and carries her to safety when the bullets are flying. He also has one smoking hot body…and he knows how to use it. ;)

Nina and the man with many names at times seem like they are working together. Then it seems like Nina’s on her own fighting the world. I never really knew who were the goodies and who were the baddies and that’s a good thing. I liked the intrigue and suspense.

Never Trust a Saint was a fast-paced thrill ride from beginning to end. There are shoot em up, bullets flying, showdowns that were bloody and violent. Death seems to be coming for Nina at every turn.

There is an immediate attraction between the main characters that produce some very hot scenes. While we can’t always tell who’s side the hero is on, it’s pretty obvious that he struggles to stay away from Nina.

I enjoyed Never Trust a Saint and I was impressed with the authors work. This is the first part of a series and I wait with bated breath for the next part of the story to play out.

I received an ARC of Never Trust a Saint from the author for an honest review.

ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.

This is so amazing and unexpected! An FBI agent is hunted by an infamous drug cartel. A stranger that enters her life with only one purpose; to destroy her. When Nina's partner is murdered, the nightmare begins for her. On the run and in fear that someone is out to kill her as well, she has to make a choice; trust Jair Ruiz or not. Jair is a dark, tall and handsome man who is certain of one thing; Nina should not trust him.

...lips grazing my ear, he whispered four words I wasn't expecting...
Four words that ignited a fear deep within...
Four words.
'I am your ruin.'

Attraction is a reckless and wild thing and Nina is drawn to Jair. Passion will lead her to more problems though. Trusting will prove to be a huge mistake and when Nina is in the hands of the devil, she understands that you can never trust a saint.
The writing was excellent. The story was fast paced and it takes the reader through a lot of twists and turns. We never trully know who our mystery man really is; not until the very end.
Nina was a good heroine but I would have liked her a little more kickass. I did found some of the ealry attraction a bit overdone and some of her actions had me frowning. I think she let go too quickly and she barely knew the man. As an FBI agent, she should have been a lot more careful in my opinion.
The hero gave me whiplash till the end! He was deliciously elusive and dark. We never know what to expect from him till the end.
There is mystery, danger and passion.

The book ends on a cliffhanger and I am curious of the next part.

Hands down a five star read. The storyline is incredible and begins with the death of a beloved partner and friend. The streets, and shadows are paved in blood and guts as bullets starts flying. One lone FBI agent, on a mission to get to the truth, discovers she's next in line with a bulls eye on her head.
 photo NTAS 7.jpg
Jair Ruiz is dangerous, he makes no attempt to hide he's not a man to be trusted, but which side of the fence is he really playing on? How far will the wolf lead a lamb to the slaughter?

Okay so although I'm kinda on a review break, and I'm kinda on a break from contemp reads, I knew I absolutely HAD to break all that to read Melissa Jane's new dark cartel story.
I have loved every single one of her darker books, and still have not found anything to compare to them. She manages to make a story absolutely compelling and gripping from as early as the first few pages, which is crazy unusual. So I was very excited to read this one.

Like I said before, this is a new Cartel story from Melissa, and not part of her previous Bittersweet Familia series. Yet.....there is actually some faint references to a few characters or major players in the other series. But it's not a crossover, just proof that Melissa is able to create a hugely detailed background to her books, and is able to cross many stories together, without it getting confusing.

Nina Cross is gorgeous, stunning yet not obviously so, as she usually hides it behind a uniform. That of FBI. She and her partner deal with fraud amongst other things, which surprisingly made them a target to a bigger kettle of fish. Just shows how clever the storyline is, that you could make a connection between fraud department and Cartels, but it was done, and after her partner was viciously murdered, and it was covered up by the FBI, Nina is determined to find out what happened, even if it makes her a massive target.

So Nina ends up bang smack in the middle of an ongoing war between the notorious Los Santos Cartel and the FBI, oh and another Cartel are thrown in now and then. Everywhere she turns, she finds herself in more danger, or someone is trying to either kidnap her or kill her. So she kind of needs help, and fast.

Which is where extremely hot Jair Ruiz comes in. When I say hot, it's obviously an understatement. What with being dark and brooding, powerful and dangerous, oh and having the incredible Colombian sex on legs gene. He is definitely not a bad person to have around watching out for you. But there is something about him, he even states himself he can't be trusted, but Nina has nobody else. She is on the run, and everyone is after her, she has to put her faith in someone. But is Jair the right person. Hmmmm he certainly can't be the worst.

As with all of MJ's books, this was incredibly gripping. Seat of your pants type tension. And the heat and chemistry between Nina and Jair was off the charts. It wasn't quite as dark and gritty as the Bittersweet series which I must admit, I do love. But the story and characters held this story perfectly without all the blood and gore etc. So I was more than happy. :)

So all in all, highly recommended. If you love a story with grit, incredible sex, a fantastic thriller that makes you think, and grip your kindle. Then this is the book for you!
5 huge stars!!

You know a story is going to be awesome when you read the prologue and your instantly sucked in, dinner is delayed and the outside world seizes to exist.I devoured the pages of Never Trust A Saint and I couldn't stop. It will be on my list of favourite books! The storyline was awesome it sucks you in and you can't stop reading. Ninas character was awesome no matter how much shit was thrown her way she kept fighting for what she believed in. So many twists and turns this book i felt like a druggie needing my next fix when I was done. The whole time I was on the edge of my seat thinking who the hell is this Jair Ruiz when is he going to show up again? So many twists and turns, just when you think you have the storyline all figured out BOOM nope not even close. The characters are well developed, the relationship between the Nina and Hunter was perfect.Hunter though wow what a man! Absolutely loved him!
If you are looking for a dark, action packed read that keeps you on the edge of your seat then this book is for you because nothing about this book is predictable, it's everything I love in a book. Absolutely looking forward to second book!

'I am your ruin' - Melissa ruined me in every way possible when it came to this book!

Nina Cross is an FBI agent, one night while attending an event with her partner Garcia, she meets a mysterious stranger. From across the room she feels his eyes on her in a physical way. When he approaches her he won't give his name, will only ominously tell her that he will be her ruin.
From that moment on her life is turned upside down when she becomes the target of the Los Santos cartel. This book is gripping, violent and intense, and Jair will leave you salivating for me. He's dark and mysterious, broody and intense, as a reader you can't help but swoon over him even though it's unclear where his loyalties lie or what his intentions are. He's just that sexy, you can totally understand Nina's weakness for him.
This book is a loose spin-off from the Bittersweet Familia series, although it can easily be read as a stand alone. The Los Santos cartel is briefly mentioned in Sofia, book 3 of the Bittersweet Familia series so it's not imperative that you read them first, although I would recommend you read them because they are great too.
I'm looking forward to more from this series and these characters, I can't wait for the next book!

Action packed read

FBI agent's, cartel, mystery men, investigations, kidnapping, shootings it all goes down in never trust a saint.

Not a hot romance read, more action in other ways with twists and turns, danger, lies and deceit and Cartel action.

Some things I struggled with, for example, a man appears in your room, you don't know him you're scared but yet you have sex with him because you're drawn to him?.
If there was a build up to this union I would of got it but she had briefly seen him twice. Seriously ide be shitting myself adrenaline would kick in and no way would that happen.

Nina was an FBI agent but didn't have enough backbone or character for me to like her, someone with confidence and sass yes I could of gelled with and this is a big key to enjoying the book, feeling one with the characters cheering them on at the good bits, feeling the hurt when they hurt but no I didn't get that.

All in all a book filled with action and mystery finishing on a cliffhanger. Will I be reading part 2? sadly no, it wasn't for me.

This is a brilliantly written fast paced story. I was gripped in from the start and read it in one sitting.
Nina is an FBI agent who is on the run from a drug cartel after her partner is killed. Jair seems to keep popping into her life but can he be trusted? She needs to find out who killed her partner and keep safe.
Would have loved Nina to have more balls but I still loved the book.
This is a really great gritty and twisty story. Glad I waited until book two is out before reading so I can jump straight into it. Looking forward to reading more of these characters.

The Review:
This read was definitely an unexpected and pleasant surprise. When the author contacted me and asked me to review her book, I was sucked in right away by the blurb. It sounded like something I could get on board with and I wasn’t wrong. I really enjoyed this read. It had action, romance, intrigue, suspense and it was well written with a flowing and solid story. I loved that the author spaced out the reveals, leaving you wondering who was good, who was bad and who was trolling the grey lines. Though the beginning was a bit slow and took me until the third chapter to really get into it, it quickly picked up and kept right on spinning until the very end.

Nina Cross is a rookie FBI agent. Her partner and best friend is killed, leaving her with a warning and a mystery that’s pulled her right into the cross hairs of two cartels, her own agency and a perfect stranger who both terrifies her and consumes her.

Nina soon finds herself on the run and soon after that, kidnapped. It’s one mishap after another for her and she really has to find her inner strength and bravery to survive the harrowing events that she’s found herself in. She doesn’t know who to trust and those she thought she could trust, leave her reeling and in situations she might not get out of.

Nina and her “perfect-stranger” have great chemistry together and I found myself really pulled into their romance. I do think it was played out to quickly and their insta-romance needed more time to evolve, especially considering the circumstances they were in and the way he presented himself, but it was fun to see how it all played out. The perfect-stranger was a mystery and you never knew what his angle was. The author did a fabulous job with his character, making you second guess everything. And in the end, you’re still not sure who might be betraying who.

Along with the insta-romance, there was one other thing I wish had been sussed out a bit more. It was said two or three times in the story that Nina wasn’t cut out for being an FBI field agent, and on that note, I will have to agree. Though I liked her character, she seemed fragile and naive. She’s had training and she has instincts but she seems to ignore all that when it really counts. No sooner had she met her perfect-stranger, than she fell into bed with him, knowing he was setting off alarms inside her. Throughout their trip, she didn’t question him nearly enough and let her libido take over when common sense should have prevailed. Also, there were times when I wanted her to be tougher than she was. I think her character could have really been one of the “kickass” heroines I love, if only she cried a bit less, was snarky a bit more and wasn’t shocked as much. Don’t get me wrong. She was a great heroine with tons of courage, and the situations she was in would have left me a sniveling mess on the floor crying for my mommy, but I wanted HER just a little more tougher than she was. By the end, I think she was starting to really find the voice I wanted her to have and I look forward to seeing where the story takes her and her perfect-stranger.

This book doesn’t leave off with a huge cliffy but there’s enough left unsaid that you can’t help but want to move on to the next book immediately, and I loved that!

All in all, this was a very enjoyable read that left me wanting more. It might have been my first book by this author but it certainly isn’t my last.

Another excellent read from Melissa Jane...

Never Trust a Saint is the first in the LOS SANTOS Cartel series from Melissa Jane who has authored another winner.

 photo ntas_zpsbhsyjumx.jpg

Melissa has returned to her darker side and I for one love these books.

Nina, a rookie FBI agent is on the run from the Cartel and she has little choice but to entrust her life to Jair Ruiz. Due to story-line spoilers, I would rather not say much more except that the story takes twists and turns you will not see coming and will have you on the edge of your seat wondering who to trust. This became a page turner very quickly, the story was that good.

 photo page turner_zpskaa7zwk0.gif

Gotta love me a hot guy and Jair Ruiz does it for me.

 photo manin suit_zpsvl0oyftb.gif

This story grabs you on the first page and doesn't let go till the last, where you are still trying to turn the page to see what happens next and sadly there wasn't anymore. I will be eagerly awaiting the next in the series. This is a five star plus read for me.

Never Trust a Saint was an unexpected surprise for me. I have been wanting to give this author’s work a try but I keep forgetting I have her books on my tbr. I am glad that I took a chance on this book it hooked me immediately and kept me there. I will definitely be diving into her other series soon.

Nina is a rookie FBI agent on the run from a drug cartel after her partner is killed. Nina doesn't know who to trust because everyone is turning on her. She thought things were just fine and doesn't understand why anyone would be after her. Now she is on the run from the FBI and warring cartels trying to get answers to clear her name as well as her partners.

Enter Jair Ruiz, a dangerous stranger that she meets briefly at a charity ball. Jair then shows up in her home to warn her about trusting the wrong people. They have a passionate encounter and then he disappears. As Nina runs for her life Jair reappears, and she doesn’t know whether to trust him, or run from him.

I really can’t say much more about the story due to spoilers. I will say at times Nina was frustrating because I felt she wasn’t getting what was going on around her. It made me question her ability as an agent but she makes up for this towards the end to some extent. Jair was dark and mysterious and I am really curious to know more about him. I hope he achieves what he sets out to do. I am anxious for the second book and yes this is TBC but I didn’t feel like it was a cliffy. I think the author left it in a good place where I am intrigued to get more, but not angered over a cliffy. I also liked the steam level in this. Nina and Jair have some great scenes but they aren’t overdone. Never Trust a Saint is a gritty, violent, and twisty read. Well worth the read, and left me hooked enough to see where the story goes. Well done!

How do I even start this review except HOLY S**# this book was amazing!!!!

This was the first book by Melissa Jane that I have read and couldn't put it down, the first day I had half of it read because I had to read/see what was going to happen next. Never Trust a Saint (NTAS) will grab you right from the Prologue which is short but really catches your attention. This is how it is throughout the whole book because the author has many twists that you really want to find out what is going to happen and also keeps you guessing throughout the whole book.

Nina Cross is a strong, independent FBI agent. She may be strong and independent however her life is turned upside down when he partner, Tomas Garcia is killed and she is now hunted for reasons she does not know. All Nina wants to do is find out who killed Tomas but how far is she will to go? However, will she find this out or will she be killed herself?

Then there is her Sexy, Mysterious Stranger (Jair Ruiz)!!! He is powerful, great with a gun, and very confident when he wants something. The only thing is he who he says he is? He has his sights set on Nina and will stop at nothing to have her. However, he never answers her questions completely and he has his reason for doing this, which drives Nina crazy. Is it to protect Nina or is it to bring her down? Also, will Nina heed his warnings or will she fall for her mysterious stranger?

This book contains tons of action, that is dark and dirty and not all of it is in the sex department.

I will admit this is not my normal type of book that I would read but am so glad that I took the chance and read it because it has now introduced me to a new author that I will be reading the rest of her books. The reasons that this is not my normal type of book was because of some of the gun fights were a little descriptive. However, I will say that this did make the book more amazing because it helped build the plot twist throughout the book.

The whole book was/is written beautifully to keep you reading and wanting more. She was able to give you the back story of all the characters throughout the story without making the story choppy. This allowed you to bond/understand them all a little better and also to understand what is really going on in the story.

This book does leave you with a small cliffhanger but is so worth the read!!! I can't wait for book two The Perfect Stranger to come out.

I've got to say the blurb of this book got my attention and throw in the eye-catching cover and I knew I had to read it.

Nina Cross is an FBI agent who specializes in criminal fraud investigation. One night her partner is gunned down while on the phone to her giving her a warning to run. Well, she doesn't run. She's devastated by his death and feels that the department head isn't doing anything to investigate her partner's death.

In the meantime, she'd met a man at a party who intrigued her. There was an instant sexual connection between them and his 'bad boy' look excites her. She sees the man again at he funeral of her partner. he's just standing at a distance watching her. No one seems to know who he is or cares which adds to her frustration.

So when her investigations into her partner's death leads her to become the enemy of the state and the target of a drugs cartel, Mr Stranger comes to her rescue. The chemistry between them sizzles but he isn't all that he seems and he does warn her to not trust him. Things go from bad to worse when she ends up in the hands of the cartel she'd running from. Will mystery man be her saviour or will he be the one to pull the trigger aimed at her.

I enjoyed this story on the whole. It is well paced and sprinkled with suspense, action as well as steamy scenes. There were moments that had my heart racing and moments that had me sighing with pleasure.

There were, however, some things that niggled. Like Nina. I wanted her to be stronger, feistier. For example when she gets home and finds a stranger in her house, she should've at least struggled with him instead of giving in the minute he touched her and allowing him to have sex with her. I mean, seriously, where was her sense of self-preservation? And this pattern repeated itself on several other occasions, which was how she ended up in the hands of the cartel. I do understand lust at first sight but she was a little naive for an FBI agent.

This is still good. There's enough danger, intrigue, corrupt agents and dangerous drug lords to keep me turning the pages. I'm happy to recommend this to fans of romantic thrillers. But be aware that it ends in a cliff-hanger.

5 Go Wide Stars
*Received an arc from the lovely Melissa Jane for an honest review*
*There is a few spoilers in the review.*

This book I can't tell you how much I treasured it. From the beginning to end it was a phenomenal story. The cover is drool worthy, hot handsome man, with sexy tattoos, me likey. The story takes place where Nina Cross a former FBI agent is at a party with her partner in crime Thomas Garcia and sees a man that is her down fall. In the middle of the night she gets a phone call that changes her life forever.

Her best friend is dead, and his last words were Go Wide. That is there code for pack your bags and get out of town and don’t look back. But Nina thinks otherwise, she wants answers. Justice will be served for her fallen friend, but danger lurks in every corner.

In walks in her perfect stranger, Jair Ruiz. He is always watching, protecting her from the shadows. Making sure that the demons of a drug war don’t touch her. But can Nina trust him? Or will her feelings get in the way of her mission?

Nina Cross has to face death, lies, betrayal and her heart get’s broken in the process. Will she make it out alive or will she be six feet under ground? Can she trust the people she is working with? Is Jair Ruiz her savior or the devil with horns? Read to find out.

There is a huge twist in this story that I did not expect at all. I literally dropped my kindle on the couch and stared at the wall for five minutes thinking what the hell just happened.

The chemistry Nina and Her Perfect Stranger was off the charts. They are one smoking hot duo, had to fan myself a few times if you know what I mean.

I highly recommend this book, it was such a Dark gritty read that had me begging for more. I did not want this story to end, when I reached the 90% mark I had to read slower.

Thank you Melissa Jane for writing such an amazing book!

Can’t wait for book two in the series called: The Perfect Stranger.

"Four words that ignited a fear deep within.
Four words that left me breathless as he turned his back and disappeared into the crowd.
Four words.
I am your ruin."

The man has no name and his motivation is unknown yet he is there at every turn. Her body responds to him whilst her heart instantly matches his whenever he is near battling her mind that knows he is a predator...she the prey. Nina Cross is a rookie with a dead father and a recently murdered partner. Left with the ominous warning to "Go wide" Nina ignores the final words of her best friend and decides to investigate regardless. Embroiling herself in a tangled web of deceit she has a target on her back that she has triggered without her knowledge. Caught up in a game with players that go big or that leave you dead she has no choice but to okay the hand she is dealt. Can Nina dodge the bullets, escape the bad guys and save the day all whilst being a target of a man hunt? Will the saint with the look of devil in his eye be her downfall or her saviour?

Never Trust A Saint is a non stop whirlwind of furious action packed intrigue and hot steamy seduction. The naive nature of Nina is soon exposed as her weakest and her strength as she valiantly battles to serve justice and end the corruption. Surviving hell and emerging stronger for her ride into the darker recesses of humanity stoops to Nina is a sassy and head strong female lead. Her mystery man is even more alluring for his secrets and spy esque aura. I think neither one bargained for the wealth of emotions they unleashed. The plot was scintillating and erotica whilst developing the story line and keeping the reader engaged. It was a fab underworld read that I really enjoyed. Totally recommend this to anyone that loves a bad boy romance with a little blood and mayhem thrown in!

A four and a half star who is he read.

Stars: 4!

I was given an ARC of Never Trust A Saint by Melissa Jane for a honest review. Never Trust A Saint was written well and I loved the story. It was great to see a book that had a little bit of suspense/mystery as well as a love story. Melissa knows how to spin a story and keep you guessing as to what is happening and what will happen next. I have never read anything written by Melissa Jane before and I wish I had been reading her stuff a long. Never Trust A Saint is Nina Cross's story. Thomas and Nina attend a fundraiser together and Nina senses someone watching her and when she catches him, he puts her on edge as he knows her, but she doesn't know him. After Thomas Garcia who is Nina's partner with the FBI is killed and its ruled a home invasion which she doesn't believe it after his last phone call to her. As Nina starts to look into Thomas's death she finds out who the mysterious man is. Now if she would have just listen to Thomas, she would not have found herself in a bad predicament. To find out more go and get this book, once I started reading I couldn't put it down, I had to keep turning the pages so I could see what was going to happen next only. However we will not find out what happens in this book, since it is a CLIFFHANGER. So now we have to patiently wait to find out what happens with Nina (I hope it doesn't take long to get the conclusion? - Hint HInt). I look forward to reading more fantastic books written by Melissa Jane. I recommend you going and one clicking it is definitely worth reading, its a romance/suspense with a little mystery in one great book . Happy Reading!!!

Nina Cross is a rookie FBI agent, that somehow is put the crosshairs of Los Santos, as their newest target. What she didn't count on was the FBI turning their backs on her when she spoke up about her partner's brutal murder being more serious than a home invasion. She has to go on the run to stay alive, and there she comes in contact with the man who has her world turned inside out. Nina is simultaneous scared, and seriously attracted to him, and he uses it to his advantage. Jair Ruiz's touch nearly brought her to her knees, and when she ran, he followed her. She's not sure if she can trust him, as he is playing a dangerous game trying to keep them both alive. But what happens if that man is the worst enemy of all?

WOW WOW WOW! This was my first experience into Melissa Jane's world, and I"m blown away! Her brilliant writing style kept my heart pounding cover to cover, to where I was sure it was going to pound out of my chest. She sucked me in to one hell of a ride from the very beginning, while keeping me on the edge of my seat to the end, and I still haven't caught my breath. Her diabolical twists and turns gave me serious whiplash, as nothing was as it seems, which left a ton of f-bombs raining down. The character development was fantastic, with a full colorful cast of secondaries. If the highly suspenseful, intense ride wasn't enough to jack a person up, the flammable chemistry of Nina, and Jair, EXPLODED INTO FIERY FLAMES of sexy scene goodness that will leave no panties standing in it's wake. I CANNOT WAIT to read more of this EPIC author, so trust me when I say, I can't HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this story enough!

I received a ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review over on my blog Pretty Little Book Blog.

Just when Nina Cross thinks she is at the top of her game career wise as one of the top agents in the F.B.I's Money Laundering and Fraud division along with her partner they both attend a charity gala and from the minute they enter the room something triggers her response that something is not quite right. Their boss says they have a new case to work, her partner is acting kind of shifty and just who is that mystery man that seems to know so much about her? This book has a thrill a minute opening! The tension is palpable and once you begin the first few pages you are drawn into a story fraught with mystery and intrigue, danger and deception all rolled up into one beautifully dangerous set of characters.

That is one of the things I love about Melissa's writing. It is all encompassing and draws you right in to the story by making these characters irresistible. Impossible to ignore in many ways haha. I first found her books when I read Tequila Nights and while this is a much darker storyline it is no less powerful of a story. Its easily cinematic and I could easily see this being turned into the next big budget action blockbuster! The stakes get higher after a event demolishes her trust in those she thought she could trust and she heeds a warning to go on the run. Getting help from some unlikely sources she investigates a set of events that lead a war between 2 rival cartels to escalate and finally reveals the identity of her mystery man.

Never Trust a Saint: Los Santos Cartel #1
Melissa Jane
4 stars

Nina Cross is being hunted by the Los Santos Cartel. Her partner gave her the signal to get out of town; to flee before he was murdered but she cant because her department is signing off on his death as a robbery gone wrong; a breaking an entering … not with the same crime scene she witnessed and certainly not when he gave her their secret code right before the line went dead. FBI agents don’t go down by way of a break in – Nina plans to find out the truth.

Jair Ruiz is a strange character. You never know which side of the fence he is playing. One minute I was yelling get away from him and the next go to him. I was seriously freaking out. I mean if you have ever flip flopped between where a characters loyalty lies you wont have done that anything compared to Jair’s character. He seems to disappear and reappear just at the right moment leading Nina on a teeter totter.

This is just the tip of the story Im certain. There isn’t a cliffhanger per say but this is certainly NOT over. Jair has a mission and he has yet to seal the deal on it. Don’t try to figure anything out because it is impossible. I was doing that exact thing and then just told myself to stop it.

I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next round. Thank you for the ARC! Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.

Never Trust a Saint (Los Santos Cartel #1)
By: Melissa Jane
5/5 stars

Nina Cross is a rookie FBI agent in the fraud division with an experienced partner. They have a fun, teasing relationship that has never crossed the lines. But she knows that her partner is keeping something from her, but she thinks that it must have to do with the Chief and their upcoming assignment.

But trouble comes their way and circumstances drastically change in the span of a few hours. The FBI turns their backs on Nina and she is the target of the Los Santos Cartel. She has no one to turn to and nowhere to go.

Jair Ruiz is a mystery and is also the only man who has been able to protect her. He lights her senses and her body on fire, with his brooding confidence and power and ability to keep her safe. He lulls her into a feeling of security, but at the same time he tells her that he is her ruin and while he’s not entirely bad, he’s not a good man either.

Things are not as they always seem and danger is lurking, waiting for its chance to reach out and sink its claws into Nina.

This book is very loosely related to the Bittersweet series, but it’s not necessary to read that first before reading this book. Though I have read them and enjoyed the interwoven story.

I loved Melissa's Bittersweet Duet and wasn't sure she was able to top it, but I think Never Trust A Saint has come close.

We are thrust back in to the world of the Mexican drug cartels, this time with an FBI agent that is way out of her league. Nina Cross is fresh out of the academy and on a noble mission, honor the work of her deceased father. Little did she know there was more to his death, and that of her partner than she could ever imagine. From the beginning you are sucked in to Nina's world and that of her "perfect stranger". In a world where nothing is what it seems and you can't trust anyone, can Nina trust her stranger to get tot the bottom of her partner's death.

This story is raw, gritty, and dark. There's instalust, but under the circumstances, you can actually understand it. I was on the edge of my deat throughout most of the story, as I was trying to figure out who was the good guy, and who was the bad guy. The ending is a bit of a cliffy and you immediately want more. I'm so glad that wasn't the end. I need more Jair, and I need the rest of Nina's story. I could not put this book down and read it one sitting. Melissa Jane can write cartels like no other!

I cannot wait to see what's next!

This was both exciting and suspenseful.

Nina Cross, rookie FBI agent is just doing her job the best she can until...
she becomes public enemy number one, her partner dies and is hunted by not one but two feuding cartels. She meets one person who seems like he can help her..

I am your ruin.

Then things get really interesting, in a world where no one knows who is good and who is evil, Nina must learn to fly all by herself. With people after her and no good answers to what in the world is happening she is left without any help from the agency who is supposed to protect her. The devil is usually who you least expect and in this case the devil may be her salvation...or not.

This was a quick read and perhaps it was because there was a lot going on or I was just that sucked in. There was a whole lot of double-crossing with some serious sexual chemistry. This is also the beginning of a story, things are left unsettled and I was not nearly satisfying enough because the threats are still out there and someone is about run head-first into it. I'm so happy book two is waiting for me so I can see what is next.

Say WHAT??? Why did I wait so long to read this one???

This one started out a little slow but picked up and didnt stop. I loved the mystery surrounding the story. I had my suspicions about who done it, but in the end it played out a little different than I was thinking. I love when I can't figure it out.

The story behind the mystery was fantastic. I loved the high speed chases and twists and turns. It kept me on my toes. And the ending??? Im glad I waited to read it when the 2nd book was available. I am most definitely on to book 2!!

Hunter was dark and broody. A total jerk just the way I like them. And yet he had a soft spot for the heroine that he didnt have for anyone else. And that is my favorite kind of leading man.

Was Hunter the good guy? Was he the bad guy?? I spent the entire book trying to figure out which side he was on and as I veture into book 2 Im still not exactly sure what side of the fence he is on.

Nina was my favorite kind of leading lady. Strong, fierce, independent and yet not over the top. I think she could of stood up for herself a little bit more, expecially when it comes to Hunter, but over all she was fierce.

I can't wait to see how this plays out. Now, where is the next book??

Getting my thoughts together on this story is harder then I thought not because it's a bad read really the opposite, I loved every single letter that formed a word, along with every space, period or comma. I was totally hooked within the first 5 chapters I couldn't place it down. I couldn't form words for my thoughts on it, I was utterly amazed by this story. My first book ever by this author and I could scream at myself for waiting so long to read any of her work It's amazing. The 1 person POV was over the top, I liked it so much that I really couldn't see this story ever being more then that; it'd make it be to much. MUST READ!!!! I know I so can't wait for more the ending just blew my mind and made me crave for more and more.I just couldn't get enough of this story, I really can't wait to see what Melissa Jane has on store for the next one!!! Anyways trust me this far to read my review then you know you have to grab a copy of the story and read it yourself.

Melissa Jane has done it again with Never Trust a Saint, Book #1 in the Los Santos Cartel series.

We meet Nina who is a rookie FBi agent on the run after her partner dies. She isn't quite sure who she can trust. She meets Jair Ruiz, she has a steamy encounter with him and than he disappears to only reappear again. Can she trust him?
There is so much more I would love to share but I don't want to spoil it for the readers.

This is a fast paced action packed read. We do end with a slight cliffhanger and I can't wait for book #2.

Thank you once again Melissa for a great read.
