Nike Sells 25 Pairs of Sneakers Every Second

Just business as usual in the house of Swoosh.

Here's a statement that might not shock you: Nike sells lots of sneakers. We don't mean varieties, either—though they do have an insane amount of those. But there's still none better at moving enormous volumes of kicks across the globe than the brand behind the Swoosh. Even with the impressive strides Adidas has made in the last few years (both culturally and as far as its stock price is concerned), the three stripe's revenues are still significantly less than Nike's, especially here in the U.S. (In simple terms, Yeezys and NMDs are hot, but Roshe Runs and Air Force 1s are what average Americans still want.) A recent report of Nike, Inc.'s 2016 Q1 revenues was just released today, and the numbers reveal just how much of a behemoth the company is in terms of selling sneakers. NPD's industry analyst Matt Powell took to Twitter for the full rundown.

Nike shared its revenue figures from Q1 in late September, but when it's put into these kinds of terms, the numbers take on a whole new wow factor. To be fair, Nike didn't actually sell 25 pairs of sneakers every second, as they make lots of products that aren't sneakers. Furthermore, Powell is also working off of the assumption that the average pair of Nikes costs $40 at retail. (Which could be true globally but seems on the lower side.) The fact is every single second of the day, every day of the week, there's a person somewhere in the world buying a new pair of beSwooshed sneakers—and that's staggering. But knowing Nike's endless dedication to innovation, style, and performance—not to mention the fact that they're a publicly traded company—we're confident they're not satisfied with these numbers. Somewhere in his office, Mark Parker likely has a piece of paper with the number 10,000,000,000 on it, and the words "Just Do It" written beneath. Call us optimists, but we bet it won't be long until that quarterly goal becomes a reality.
