Stranger Genius Award

In late May 2016, the nominees for the Stranger Genius Awards were announced. Among them were two of our alums in the art category: Barbara Earl Thomas and Mario Lemafa. The awards ceremony was held on Saturday, September 24, and Thomas was a winner. This is in addition to other awards she has received this year.

Neddy Artist Award

Finalists for the 2016 Neddy Artist Award were announced on June 1. Two School alums were selected for the painting category — Paul Komada (BFA 2000) and Kimberly Trowbridge (MFA 2006) — and Mandy Greer (MFA 1999) was chosen for the open medium category. Their work is included in an exhibition being shown at Pivot Art + Culture in Seattle. It opened on September 15 and will run through October 23. Gallery information is on their website.

In addition to the show of work by all 2016 finalists, there is an adjacent and concurrent exhibition of work by selected past Neddy Artist Award. Among them are these School-related people: Claire Cowie (MFA 1999 + current full-time Lecturer), Victoria Haven (BFA 1989), Eirik Johnson (BFA 1997), Margie Livingston (MFA 1999), Professor Emeritus Michael Spafford, Professor Emeritus Akio Takamori, and Whiting Tennis (BFA 1984).
