A Brand new Standalone, Second Chance Rom Com from Friendship, Texas featuring Country Music's Biggest Superstar, Eddie Justice and Friendship's resident author, Brook Carrington.

"Rhonda, pst, Rhonda is that the Carrington girl? The writer who was at the bakery with that country singer Eddie Justice? I thought she was in Austin?" one of the old church ladies not-so-subtly asked the woman next to her.

I rolled my eyes and Clay looked at me with a mischievous grin. Slowly I stretched my arms over my head and leaned toward my brother, not so quietly whispering, "I can't wait to get out of church so I can go home and get some Eddie Justice man meat."

The old ladies gasped and started whispering. They didn't need to know that Eddie and I had only ever been next door neighbors and friends, well until we spent the night breaking a tree branch, if that counted for anything.

We are back in Friendship, Texas! never realized how much I missed it. Until, I jumped in to Rumor Has It.

There’s something that’s very sweet about these characters and this little town in Texas. I love a small town feel, maybe because I grew up in a small town myself. Brooke and Eddie have been best friends since the womb. But as we all know. Things change with time and people move away. But after 10 years, is there hope for them?

I liked the characters, though I wanted to punch Eddie a few times. He was so into his life, he didn’t understand that others were hurting. Especially, one of them being Brooke. There’s always those what if’s. What if it doesn’t work out? what if we hate each other? but what I loved about this story. Is the realness between these two. They have so much love for each other, if they could just get past their fears.

This story really had everything. It had the second chance romance. The steamy scenes, the heartfelt proclamations. Magan’s writing is wonderful and it really touches into your heart. Feeling what the characters are feeling. Understanding them, knowing that and hoping that they get through their struggles. That's what I think any reader really wants. Those are the best stories to read.

Overall, I give this amazing, heartfelt genuine story Five Boundless Stars...Lissa

I was literally 5 pages into this book and already hating the heroine. She has a boyfriend she has been with for 8 years, is living with and who has proposed to her. She goes on to openly admit that, while she has always been "it" for him, she has basically just been using him to pass the time. Oh yeah, and he has been supporting her both "emotionally and financially" since college. She doesn't even have the grace to feel guilty about any this, or give a straight answer to his proposal. I know, pretty sick. Once reunited with her "best friend," the country music star who left town and never contacted her again for 10 years and who has recently been through a humiliating break up with his "long time girlfriend," he tries to sell her on the "it's always been you" story. He apologizes for not contacting her. Does she respond to this in the most obvious and human way possible, by asking WHY he never contacted her? No, she does not. DNF.

Awesomeness! I loved getting to know Brooke and Eddie. There were some really funny scenes, some romantic ones, and a little bit of steam. All the characters are interesting and I enjoyed reading little tidbits about them. It was also fun to see what characters might get their own Friendship, TX book. Romance writer and country singer was an original combo. My recommendation-Read! Five glittery stars!

Rumor Has It (Friendship, Texas #2) by Magan Vernon was a very sweet read. Ms. Vernon is a new author for me and while the story was very clear in the writer's intent, it was not exactly what I was expecting from the synopsis! Why? I found the main characters, Eddie Justice, a waning Country singer and former boy-next-door and Brooke Carrington, author and generally nice girl had little to commend themselves. Brooke has been in love with Eddie since they were very young & their parents and the small towns folk all thought they would end up together. Instead she encouraged him to try & win a singing competition a & he went off to Nashville & made a success of himself. She waited, went off to college & hung on to her college boyfriend because there was nothing else in the offering. Now ten years later they are back in their home town and they rekindle their friendship and both admit they had feelings for each other that they never acted upon. Both Eddie & Brooke are seemingly happy, back home. But the real question is "Will they both stay?"

The book is a reasonable length and there is lots of unexpected action; there are a couple of old friends and family who are worried about Brooke being hurt again by Eddie and true to form, he does take off back to Nashville. He has been engaged before so it seems he doesn't have commitment issues. Brooke does deal with her flagging relationship with her boyfriend but she definitely is not a women of action; her book sales are slow and she thinks about giving up until a writer friend encourages her to stop forcing the words and write what she knows.

Even though this is book two in a series, I don't think I missed anything by reading "Rumor has It" as a standalone. All the main parts of the story are wound up in this book and there are no major surprises. This was an easy to read story with nothing to offend the reader. If you are looking for a sweet simple story, then "Rumor Has It' will fit the bill. - Marilyn

Rumor Has It was the second book in the Friendship TX series by Magan Vernon. The series can be read as standalone stories.

I’ve taken a hiatus from formal reviews for a while, but a couple quick thoughts: it was a modified second chance friends to lovers theme with a mix of sexy, sweet and funny. For the most part, I liked the characters, Brooke and Eddie. It was only at parts near the end that I didn’t like Eddie too much - otherwise, they were both lovable characters. In the end, it was a fairly quick and lighthearted read and a good addition to the series.

This story was super cute! Lots of funny moments. The characters went through a lot and they deserved their ending!
I’m excited to keep reading more in this series

Magan Vernon returns to Friendship, Texas in Rumor Has It. This sweet, southern friends-to-lovers romance is lighthearted and full of feels, leaving my heart content and full of warmth. Brooke and Eddie are the boy/girl next door and their lifelong friendship often hinted at something more. When Eddie hits it big as the newest crooner on the country music scene and leaves for Nashville, Brooke is left brokenhearted. So even though this adorable couple never quite got a relationship off the ground, Magan Vernon infused their story with a second-chance romance vibe that served to make their journey that much sweeter. Their well established friendship and years of regret brought an emotional component to this book that captured my heart and held onto it as I rode out this rollercoaster ride alongside Brooke and Eddie. Magan Vernon has conjured up an unmistakable chemistry between these two that was instant and heady, making it easy to invest in this couple and the promise of their happily ever after.

One of my favorite things about this book was the honesty with which Magan Vernon created Brooke. As an indie author, Brooke struggled to come up with unique and compelling storylines and make her books a success. As we got to know Brooke, exploring her hopes and dreams and uncovering her insecurities and fears, I felt as if I was getting to know Magan a little bit better. I could sense the heart and soul that went into this character and it made it that much easier to relate to her. Eddie, on the other hand, was a little harder to read. While he seemed genuine in his feelings for Brooke, I had a tough time connecting to this character. I just wanted to shake him, yell at him for being so clueless, and slap him for not acting in a manner befitting his emotions. I appreciated the bit of insight we got into Eddie’s high school days, his evolving feelings for Brooke and how he talked himself out of acting on them, but I needed something more in order to really understand Eddie’s choices when it came to Brooke. This key piece of the puzzle just never really clicked for me, and it kept me from fully investing myself in our hero’s journey.

Rumor Has It was a fast read for me. With the foundation of their lifelong friendship, the couple’s emotions evolved fairly rapidly and it gave this book a fast-paced feel. Admittedly there were times when things were just too rushed and the storyline would have benefitted from a more in depth exploration of the emotions and issues brought forth by Brooke and Eddie’s journey, but it didn’t seriously detract from my overall enjoyment of the story. As I read, I found myself even more intrigued by the fictional town that Magan Vernon has created and I absolutely adored the way she so seamlessly integrated hints of Lia and Jay’s story throughout Brooke and Eddie’s journey. The overlapping timelines really gave the two books in the series a sense of cohesiveness that had me ready for an Edge of Glory re-read. I’ll definitely be back for more of this series, ready to dive into Magan Vernon’s smart, sassy writing and anxious to see which couple we’ll hear from next!

Growing up Brooke Carrington and Eddie Jared were the best of friends as was their parents. Eddie didn't have many friends being a bit of an outcast, but it was alright as him, and Brooke were two peas in a pod, and everyone thought they would be destined to end up together. Though life and dreams never go exactly to plan as Eddie was blessed with an amazing voice and when they old enough Brooke took Eddie to a singing audition which he was picked up by a record company, and soon he became Eddie Justice. Whereas Brooke Carrington went on to become a famous author, though her books were considered formulaic fiction as she pumped out whatever was popular at the time from Stepbrothers to Rock Stars. Life hasn't been going too great for Brooke and then she’s called home as her Dad has passed away. As her life takes a turn, she realizes that it is home where she is meant to be. During this time, Eddie is finding the life of fame and fortune is getting to him, and he too returns home. Neither he or Brooke have spoken to each other in about ten years. However, despite not chatting for that long the undeniable chemistry is still there and who knows it might be fate pushing the pair back together by putting them both in the same place at the same time. Is this the second chance happiness that only happens in books? Has life given them another go at true love? What will happen though when Brooke finally gets the guts to write out her true love story, only to have Eddie feel betrayed - will she lose him once again and are they destined to be the fairytale romance that is always doomed never to work? Or will this be the wake-up call that they both need to re-evaluate their life's works and their priorities ?. Overall, I loved Rumor has it as it had my favorite things from Second Chance romances, the country feel musicians and authors not to mention friends to lovers storyline.

If this sounds like something you would enjoy then check out it Rumor Has It by Magan Vernon, a second chance romance which will leave readers swooning with happiness and gushy-filled emotions.

Rumor Has It that the guy over there, Eddie Jahid, is gonna be a super star...All those years ago, only one person pushed him to follow his dreams. One person bandaged his boo boos and took care of him. She was the girl next door and he left her behind without a trace. None of the promised phone calls, visits, or anything. He never came back.

Ten years mourning the "loss" of your best friend and unrequited love has left Brooke unable to move on. With the death of her father, she goes home to Friendship, Texas. What she finds when she gets there is more than she bargained for.

With Eddie Jahid long gone, Eddie Justice comes home with his tail between his legs after a very embarrassing ordeal. But ten years is a long time gone and not everything is the same...

Rumor Has It has friends popping in everywhere. Of course it's a small town, so it's fun to see them all. It's even more fun to see Jay trying to work out his mess (see book one). I hope that you've had the pleasure of reading Edge of Glory but it isn't necessary. As connected standalone it won't kill you not to but...

Well Magan Vernon, has a great sense of humor. The witty comments and fun situations aren't out of place though maybe not the usual. I mean how many times can poor Jay, from Edge of Glory, drop his phone in the pool. I find myself with a giddy smile and chuckling throughout. This series is fun, flirty, and sweet. But don't let that word sweet deter you because everyone knows BB Carr writes smut and if you buy this book, you meet her right away

I received an advanced copy for an honest review. I loved this book. I will be buying this book even though I received it for free because I want this author to write more about Friendship Texas. I loved the characters from Edge of Glory which was the first book in the Friendship. You do not have to read it first but I would because it adds even more depth to this book because you care about the characters before you even meet them. This book focuses on Eddie and Brooke and makes me laugh and feel for them. They were best friends growing up and it shows and I am so glad that they come back together in this book. I had so many laughs and smiles my face hurt. I tried to keep swiping pages because I didn't want this book to be done.

To be honest, this book started out a little slow for me, a little thin and immature.
By the time it finished, it was beefed up, more filling and as satisfying as a full Sunday dinner.
Told both in alternating viewpoints with flashbacks and plenty of argumentative sass, this is no easy, head over heels, fall for the local celebrity novel. These characters work for any happiness and satisfaction they can fit into their super busy lives.
If you think celebrity is all success and smooth flying, you'll know differently by the time you reach the end. Success may not be what you were dreaming about. Plus we get an inside look at the life of an author!

Back in Friendship, Texas Brooke is there to deal with a death but also because things aren't going so well for her in Austin. Eddie took off and became a big star and never looked back. At least that's how it felt to Brooke for the ten years he was gone. I love our visits to small Friendship it's always a great read with love-able characters. No matter what your heart goes out to them even though you know they will work it out, this author always makes getting that HEA worth the read. Yes this is a stand-a-lone with no cliff hanger.

Brooke and Eddie were best friends, inseparable until Eddie hit it big as a country music star. He left Brooke and their small town of Friendship, TX before graduation, leaving Brooke adrift and lonely. Ten years later, Brooke is back in town for her father's funeral and Eddie returns as well, smarting from a nasty breakup. Can the two pick up as friends after ten years apart, or do they have a chance at something greater?

This is the second book in the Friendship TX series, but I read it as a standalone. It's a sweet second chance romance, told half from Brooke's point of view, and half from Eddie's. I really liked Eddie, he's definitely not perfect but had a great character arc. I loved that Brooke was an author and that let us peek into the publishing business. I also loved the flashbacks to Brooke and Eddie's childhood, and both sets of parents, past and future, were adorable.

Unfortunately I had a really hard time liking Brooke, she was too self-centered for me. When we meet her, she and her family are standing outside the funeral home for her father's funeral, and her mom has to ask her repeatedly to put her phone away and pay attention. She doesn't show any emotion about her father's death until a few chapters later, I had assumed they were estranged. Then we flashback to a few days before the funeral, when she's packing to leave for Friendship. Her boyfriend Drake, a man she's been dating for 7-10 years and who has recently proposed, is desperately in love with her, and she can barely tolerate him. She acknowledges that he's been supporting her financially and emotionally since she left college despite the fact that she doesn't love him. When she finally calls Drake and he asks when she's coming back and if their relationship is over, she just hangs up on him. Later when Eddie mentions he's leaving Friendship for a few days to take care of some commitments, Brooke thinks that there's nothing for her in Friendship and she might as well leave, as if her newly widowed mother and six year old sister don't exist. There were so many times when she was intolerant to those around her, snarking about the church ladies and referring to Noah as "the deaf kid". I love reading about a bold woman with sass and brains, but Brooke was just too selfish. It wasn't a dealbreaker for me, I still enjoyed the read, but I do prefer a more likable heroine.

The narration was really well done, Kassiopia DeVora did a great job. There were some singing parts and I absolutely loved them, she has a wonderful voice.

I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

**I received a review copy of this book in exchange for an honest voluntary review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

Ever since we were briefly introduced to these two in the first book in the series, I've been curious about their story.

Second chance romances can be hard to write but I think Magan succeeds in delivering for the most part. We get plenty of flashbacks to the past so it helped define the relationship these two have and why they've always been drawn to each other. It was also great to get half of the story told from Brooke's POV and then from Eddie's. I personally would have liked to have seen more "present" day romantic interactions between the two--I felt like we focus a little to much on their individual developments--so I wasn't entirely sold on why they work as a couple now.

I think I'm in the minority as well when it comes to character likeability. I really didn't like Brooke as a character at all. She came across as vain, somewhat shallow and shameless. I hated how she treated her current boyfriend, Drake, and how she seemed to lack any remorse about her feelings and actions towards him. To me, there was nothing redeemable about her and I felt like she didn't grow either by the end of the book (ie she didn't learn any lessons).

I liked Eddie though. He seemed a little more level headed. And of the two, I think he showed a little more growth by the end of the novel.

As for the audio production, I thought it was FABULOUS! Kassiopia DeVora was a great narrator--I was truly impressed by her narration. The accents were spot on; each character had a unique voice; and she did a great job singing as Eddie when the occasion called.

I loved this book. It was a charming, sometimes frustrating, second chance romance. You have Brook and Eddie who have been attached to the hip since diapers. Best Friends. Both wanting more but never wanting to cross that line. But a rare chance of stardom for Eddie severs that bond and 10 year pass.

Watching these two come together after 10 years , even though the meeting was brought by sad circumstances, was fun and frustrating. It was fun watching how much these two truly loved and adored each other It as frustrating watching Eddie (sorry dude because I love you) make selfish choices that really frankly pissed me off.. I just wanted to yell "selfish bastard". But he sure makes up for it in the end. LOVED LOVED the ending!

This book really had everything you are looking for. Second chances, drama, romance, a little up and down mood swings, and it was written with humor that gives this book at little something more. This was a great read, and I can not wait to read more in this series!

Brooke is a struggling Indie author and is back home in Friendship, TX for her dad's funeral. She decides to stay awhile and figure out her life. Her live-in boyfriend has proposed but she just isn't in love with him..see, Brooke's heart has always belonged to her childhood best friend, and country music star, Eddie 'Justice'. Maybe it's time for a clean break.
Eddie Justice is home to have some downtime, as well as lick his wounds, after a sex tape of his ex-fiance' went viral. Now he's home and hoping to explore his feelings for his childhood friend, Brooke. But can a workaholic, a successful one at that, and a 'starving' author make love work or will egos get in the way? This is a sweet friends to lovers, second chance story with lovable secondary characters. Love the ending. Great narration by this new-to-me narrator.

A not so typical second chance romance

I love a second chance romance, and Eddie & Brooke’s was wonderful. I liked that it didn’t go with the typical second chance trope. They had to work hard to get over themselves and find their HEA. Sometimes it seems that the H & h get together too easily, and I like that they had to get to know each other again.
I like that you got to see both their POVs. It was good seeing how Eddie realized his flaws and worked hard to get his woman. I also really liked the flashbacks. I loved seeing their fond memories and their heartbreaks.
I’m really loving this series by Magan. Can’t wait to start book 3.

I voluntarily listened to the audiobook in exchange for an honest review. Brooke and Eddie were friends and in love with each other as teens, but never shared their feelings. Eddie leaves town and makes it big in the music industry. Both Brooke and Eddie return home ten years later. Their relationship moved from friends to lovers slowly and I was honestly annoyed with both characters at times. Overall the story for me was just okay, but I think Kassiopia DeVora did a great job with the narration.

Great Second Chance Love

This is my first visit to Friendship and I am definitely going back to visit. This is a story about next door neighbors and best friends. They both return home while reevaluating their lives. It is so true that your first love leaves a lasting impression even if you've never expressed it through words.

All of the characters make you feel right home in the town. If you are a sucker for second chances then this is a book for you.

This was so cute and entertaining. We have two friends who liked each other as more but never acted on it. One leaves and they don’t hear from another again. Their lives take dramatic turns. Eddie turns into a self serving country music singer and he doesn’t realize he is now self serving. He leaves a piece of himself behind so he may be successful and forget Brooke. Brooke doesn’t let any guy get close to her even when in a long term relationship and flutters from job to job. She writes romance books that are average due to her heart not being in the story because she is to busy trying to make money from her writing so it’s catered to that concept. Eddie has a PR and personal nightmare occur and Brooke has a family tragedy so suddenly they are both back home and see each other after 10 years. This is the story of their time finding themselves again, their friendship and their chance at love once more.

Eddie changes the most to me. He learns that he was different when he left Friendship and that the change wasn’t for the best. He ignores family and going home and I think this is due to trying to forget Brooke. He gets so engrossed in being successful he loses a piece of himself along the way and also loses his love for music. It becomes a job for him. going home changes this. He sees music again as something he loves and brings joy to others. He sees what love and patience is. He sees kindness and and family once again. He also finds the girl he let go of all those years ago. Except Brooke has changed. She harbors some anger and is lost. Coming home for her was under tragic circumstances but for her a fresh start. She discovers herself and a story to write.

Watching these two find their friendship again was so fun. I loved the deer stand moment that was a hoot. And when she went back to Austin and found what she did in the apartment. Not even bleach will ever undo that from her eyeballs. the church ladies and bunco to funny.

Their story was sweet. They have a chemistry built on years of knowing each other and it never went away. They only buried their feelings but once together again they mesh so well. I hated to see them hurt one another. Eddie was hurt by her writing and she was hurt by him assuming things. This did cause a rift but one I think that was necessary. Eddie needed to see that he had changed and not for the better. He needed to see that he was going to have to work for forgiveness and learn what he wanted. He gets an eye opener from his ex and she actually got him thinking. This got him to realize how much he changed and how much he wanted to be the old Eddie. It got him jumpstarting his life once again. That and his friend Jeff who was doing something big to show a girl he loved her. So Eddie does to. He explores himself and makes changes. Big changes. but it was good for Brooke to because she learns that sometimes what you think is just a story can hurt someone else. She learns about herself and what she wants. She becomes stronger and more self assured. So when eddie comes back to Friendship with his changes Brooke is ready to listen. Eddie is also receptive to advice from others as well. the ending so sweet and loving. His support of Brooke and her career was so swoony.

This is a fun entertaining light hearted book of second chance love, friendship, family and finding yourself again. The story is character driven told from both Eddie and Brooke’s POV and just has you smile throughout the book from the church declarations of Brooke, her cupcake smut book, her ex and the mask, misunderstandings, flashbacks to show how close they were and get you to understand their feelings, and moments of intimacy in and out of the bedroom- all will leave you feeling like you are seeing something special grow and two people become who they are supposed to be apart and together.

What happens when two childhood best friends who have always been in love with each other, who are both down on their luck, end up back home at the same time? A lot of misunderstandings, drama, and maybe, just maybe, a happily ever after!

Brooke is back home in Friendship, Texas to help her mom, brother, and sister bury her father, and she decides to stay, since life in Austin isn’t really going so well. Eddie is also back home after his ex leaked a sex tape of her cheating on him, and he needs out of the spotlight to heal and figure out where his career goes next. These two were best friends growing up and have always loved each other, but never made a move, but they haven’t seen each other or talked to one another in ten years. When they lay eyes on one another again, it’s like nothing has changed, but everything has changed.

In the first part of the book, we get only Brooke’s point of view and I really enjoyed this part of the book and I really liked Eddie. My dislike for him came out more when we got to part two and we got inside of his head. At times I wanted to punch him, scream at him and be like Brooke, you can do so much better! But he came around at the end and made up for all of the stupid things he’s done so everything was ok!

Things for these two aren’t easy. They had to get to know each other all over again, as well as figure out where their lives were taking them now and where they fit into each others lives now. This was a sweet romance, but at times it felt like it drug on a bit too much for me and the characters didn’t connect as much as I would have liked. I did like the premise of the story, but would have liked to see the epilogue have gone out a bit further than it did.

If you’re looking for a sugary sweet romance, than this is one to consider adding to your TBR list today!

Rumor Has It is the second book in the Friendship, Texas series, and it might just be better than the first! One thing I really like is it is a stand-alone series. No crazy mean cliffs here! Another thing I loved was the events of this book were happening at the same time as events in Edge Of Glory (Book 1 in the series). There was some intertwining of events and characters that was great.

I am a huge sucker for second chance romances, but can also be a little critical. This one did not disappoint! Such a great mix of present time and memories, the characters were great, loved Brooke! I think she was a piece of every woman out there, very relatable! I am a huge fan of Magan Vernon and this book is right on par with her writing style! Read the first in the series and then you will love and appreciate this one more! Great great addition to the Friendship series!

One of my favorite types of books to read are a good friend’s to lover’s story, and I thoroughly enjoyed Eddie and Brooke’s. Both have come back to their hometown of Friendship, Texas for different reasons. Brooke is there to help her family after her father’s death, and Eddie is back for a respite from the spotlight. He’s a country singer, and his ex-girlfriend’s sex tape has gone viral on the internet.

Eddie and Brooke were once very close. They grew up next door to each other, and they became best friends as they grew up. Brooke had a crush on him for years and thought one day the two would cross that line from friends to more, but Eddie left for stardom and didn’t stay in touch with her….for 10 years! When she sees him, she knows her feelings haven’t changed. But, she does have some feelings of anger and resentment too. The two do spend time together, and the lines become blurred between friendship and more as they help heal the other. Will things be different this time or will Eddie leave her behind breaking her heart once again?

I love quirky characters with a great sense of humor, and Eddie and Brooke are hilarious. They are also very realistic people too. Both are at a crossroads in their lives, and I loved how they helped one another. The chemistry between them was the same, yet very different. They had to get to know one another again. One of my favorite aspects of the book were the flashbacks to when they were younger. It helped me understand the depth of their feelings for one another. If you love a sweet romance, I highly recommend this one. AND….if you read the first book, you will get to see the those characters in this one! Can’t wait to return back to Friendship, Texas!

Rumor has it was an amazing friends to lovers story. Eddie and Brook have been friends forever, long before Eddie made it big with his music, but they've also both loved each other for that long. When Eddie and Brook find theirselves back in town at the same time, its hard to fight those feelings that have never gone away, even if they aren't ready to admit them to each other.

Brook was a fun character, the type of woman I'd hang out with. She was back home and struggling with what to do with her future. She had two options, one open herself up to what would happen if she went after the man she loved and wanted OR two, stay with the steady option, the guy who proposed even though they didn't have much sparks or emotion between them.

Eddie thought all he wanted to do was leave Friendship, He wanted to make it big and be somebody. But after a public humiliation by he now ex, he's home to pick up the peices of his life and discovers that maybe Friendship isn't so bad after all. Especially when his best friend is back home as well.

Rumor has it was a hilarious second chance romance tale. It had the small town vibe of Friendship, TX, but was also full of banter and hilarity, all while bringing together two people who were just meant to be. This story had me laughing one moment, and falling in love the next, it was witty and fun, while also being romantic in places. I love how Vernon writes in all the side characters and pulls you further into the story, getting to know not just the main characters, but everyone in the town, giving you a closeness to them all and making you want to know even more, igniting in you a desire to read more about this town and its people.
