Second Chance #1

Reawaken His Heart

Braedyn
I'm an asshole. I wasn't always this way; life has made me this way. I once believed in the good in all people, but then "life happened". I'm not religious; I don't believe in God. How can someone who created the world be so willing to take away life and all I believed in and loved?
I was young. I believed in love and forever. Brooklynn Marsden was my high school sweetheart. We grew up together in Phoenix and she became my wife. I loved life with her more than anything. Until it was over. Then I hated life and vowed I would never love a woman again.
Women became an outlet to release my pent-up frustrations. Wham bam thank you ma'am was the motto I lived for years.
Until Rylee.
Rylee
Men are pigs. You heard me. Pigs. They are selfish and only concerned with what benefits them both in life and in bed. I believed in Prince Charming like every other little girl. Cinderella, Snow White, and Rapunzel, they all got the knight in shining armor who saved them from their dreary little lives and made them the happiest girls on the face of the earth.
Those were stories written for little girls, making them believe that one day a man would sweep them off their feet and worship them. BULLSHIT!!! All I've found are the court jesters and a bunch of cheaters.
Gone is the carefree girl who dreamed of fairy tales and believed in soul mates. In her place is the woman who trusts no one.
Until Braedyn.

Firefighter

So being a firefighter's wife I had to try my first firefighter romance and it did not disappoint! Rylee and Braedyn have such smoking hot chemistry! Both come into their relationship with lots of baggage, Rylee with her bad relationships and Braedyn with his early heartbreak. Loved reading their steamy story.

I can't believe how many amazing books I've been lucky to find this year <3

Sometimes you find a book you can't wait to gash about to your friends, even to a stranger in the near perimeter. Other times, it takes you a few moments to absorb what you just read, and to make sure your heart is still intact. In this instance? With REAWAKEN HIS HEART? I didn't care if I had a heart or a soul left, even if my sanity was gone (whatever of it was left anyway) this story has taken control!!

I LOVED Braedyn & Rylee's STORY! Before we get lost in trying to explain all the emotions this book had stolen, lets just say a huge thank you to KL MYERS for creating this stunning book <3 No words or a review will ever do justice, lets just get that clear.

OK first, that cover? *fans self*I mean LOOK at it!!? I don't know about you, but firefighters, men that run into the devils hands while everyone else runs away? And add to that SEXY men? Yeah... see? You're picking up drool too right? Don't worry, it's normal ;) lol

Everything about the writing drew me in. I couldn't stop flipping the pages, I wanted more, I NEEDED more of Braedyn's past and the tears that I knew would come when present came... His backstory almost had me thinking this smile wouldn't wither but we all know from reading the synopsis, it isn't that easy.. At the same time, we saw a glimpse into Rylee's past and that just added to the hunger I had in figuring out what the hell would happen..

Connecting with the characters came as natural as knowing what favorite cup of coffee I pick up every morning. It's more obvious if you know me, and of all the cups I own, just ONE is right. Does that make sense? hahah

This story had everything, it balanced the dark with the sweet. The author KNEW full well how to dive the reader deep into the angst and never quite let go until she saw you gasping for your breath. REAWAKEN HIS HEART too away my will to stop and place my kindle down. I couldn't do. It was around 5am when I finished reading it and I have no regrets for the double shift I had that day.

DARK.

BEAUTIFUL.

SOULFUL.

HEARTBREAKING.

CHOICES.

SEXY.

ROMANTIC.

FUNNY.

HOPEFUL.

INTENSE.

I think it's fair to say, if you haven't gathered from my mismatched review, this is one book that needs to belong on your kindle!! Once you have it, God knows why you haven't already one clicked, come back here and we can draw out every possible detail... Drooling over a sexy alpha is just the beginning. We can see how our hearts cry over the story that will without a doubt hold you prisoner in touching that spot an author so rarely does.

KL Myers? This is the very first book that I have read by you and now it will never be the last! I loved this story more than I can ever explain and ut into words, even though I am supposed to be a writer, I still don't know how to express my messed up emotions for this beautiful book!

Thank you for writing this. Thank you the way you write. And THANK YOU for creating Braedyn and Rylee's story. Truly, I love it <3

4/5 stars!!!
A lovely, emotional tale of finding love again unexpectedly.
Poor Braedyn, that guy got his heart broken in the worst way and love just wasn’t something he cared to find again. Rylee has had a troubled life that turned her into a shell of the woman she could be. One night, Rylee is in an accident and Braedyn arrives in the nick of time, like a hot hero in a firefighters’ uniform. After he rescues her, he just can’t stay away, even if he doesn’t want any kind of anything with her.
This is a beautiful romance. Quite good for a debut novel. The chemistry between Rylee and Braedyn is off-the-charts. Things weren’t rushed, but the author didn’t draw them out unnecessarily either. The book was done really well. It is told in dual POVs, which worked really well for this.
A great read!

"He’s my battleship that helps me sail the rough seas, and I’m not sure what I would do without him."

I was so excited when this book landed on my kindle!!!! I'd been looking forward to reading it for ages!
Brae.... wow, what can I say about him? His past is so sad and I had tears streaming down my face. I felt his pain and hoped that he could find his happily ever after.
Rylee... poor Rylee!!! What she went through! And that nasty colt!!!!!
I don't want to say too much about this book because you need to READ IT NOW!!!!
This was an absolutely amazing book and I can't wait for the next in the series!!!!

Who doesn't love a firefighter and a second chance at love romance, that would be nobody. Reawaken His Heart is an emotional story for both characters. Both suffering at the hands of love in such different ways, giving them a totally different outlook on life and erecting walls around their hearts so high it is going to take a ladder truck to get over it. A chance encounter between Braedyn and Rylee forms a connection that neither of them can ignore. As these two struggle to move past the hurt that still weighs them down from previous commitments, mistakes will be made, tears will be shed and apologies will need to be made. Their story is about confronting the past head on and moving forward. My only negative is that I found it hard in the past sections of the book at the beginning to connect to the characters, however once we hit the present day the story gripped and wouldn't let go.

I'm definitely in the minority. I did not feel a connection to either character. The premise had so much promise for me but I just could not get into the writing style. I felt like I was reading the character's feelings but I didn't feel them if that makes sense. :(

I really enjoyed this book. I'm always drawn into the books I read by the characters, and I loved the characters K. L. Myers created in this story.

Braedyn suffered a tragic loss when his wife unexpectedly passed away after only being married for 2 years. To deal with the pain, he closes himself off from feeling emotions for any other woman.

Rylee went through an abusive relationship with her last boyfriend. Now she can't bring herself to trust any guy again.

When Rylee is rescued by Braedyn after a car accident, they both know there is a connection there, but can they get past their emotional issues to see what is right in front of them?

These characters were great! I loved Braedyn, I mean come on... who doesn't love a sexy fireman ;) He was sweet, and you could really feel the connection he has with Rylee. I didn't connect to Rylee as much, but she was still great. I think I really like Gauge though. The second book of the series is going to be about him, and I'm REALLY excited to see the inner workings of his character.

The only thing I didn't like as much was too many sex scenes. I found myself skimming parts after the first few. Otherwise the book was great!

I am one that loves to discover new to me authors. I kept seeing the cover with finally giving into curiosity enough to stop and see what it promised inside. This is also I think her first one so she has a good start. I myself can not resist a man in uniform military and those around us such as Braedyn being a fireman. He is also a mess thanks to a huge loss in his life. Then there is Rylee who also is a mess thanks to a mess that called himself a man that as you read what she tolerated you want to kick someone's butt. Danger is what brings them crossing each other's path. She will also have some excellent observations she takes away about Braedyn in the days that follow I found quite interesting. Anyways this is their journey with plenty of heat to fuse them together so much so that you will have to call the fire department yourself to put out the smoke coming from the kindle. Packed with emotions it gives you a good read that by the time you reach the end you do not want to move your feet. It also has a few characters that pick your curiosity even though it is manly about them.

Reawaken his Heart was smokin’! I didn’t realize that this was K. L. Myers debut novel until I went looking for another one of her books to read on Goodreads- only to find that this is it! After finishing a dark and twisted read yesterday, I really needed a sexy romance to pick me up. Reawaken his Heart did just that!

I just love a second chance at romance novel. Braedyn and Rylee have both been through so much. He’s shut off his heart to love and she doesn’t know if she can trust enough to love again. But the moment that these two meet, there is an immediate connection. They just want to be near one another and I just loved watching them open themselves up again. Um, can we also address the chemistry between these two for a second? Through the roof, on fire, smokin’ hot- just a few terms I’d use to describe it!

On a final note, if you’re looking for an ultra steamy second chance romance novel, complete with a HEA and a drool worthy Alpha hero- this is it! I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for the rest of the series as it’s released!

This is my first read from KL Myers and i've got to say it really was and emotional read and one minute i loved it and needed to know what was going to happen next then the next my heart was in my mouth. Some parts of this read will really pull on your heart strings.
Braedyn and Rylee have been through so much in their past lives with heartbreak and abusive relationship. Then one night, Rylee is involved in an car accident and Braedyn is passing by just in time to rescue her. He can't stay away from her but at the same time he's conflicted he doesn't know what this pull is between them and the same is for Rylee. They shared an instant connection leading us through their journey to their HEA.
If your a lover of second chance romance then you wont be disappointed with this steamy read but be prepared there is some heartbreaking parts to this read.

***I received this ARC from the author in return for my honest opinions. All opinions are my own.***

There were times I wasn't sure if I liked this book or not. Then there were times I couldn't wait to see where the story was going. Rylee had a rough go of it for sure, I wish there was more in the book about the ex though, everything seemed to wrap up so quick. Then poor Braedyn going through what he goes through... I got teary, I won't lie.

When these two come together it seemed fast at first, also a bit like hero worship. But I got past that, because their romance was all consuming. I did enjoy this book and I will definitely read more by this author soon. I'm rating it at four stars!!!

I have to admit that I was never one to step out of my comfort zone in order to give new authors a try. Now that I have, I'm far from being disappointed. I also won't hide the fact that I love covers. If an author takes the time to find a cover that fits the story, to me it's already a success. I love stories that involve firefighters because they care and they have protectiveness in them. This 4 star was all that and much more.

Braedyn and Rylee have been through so much in their past lives. Then one night, Rylee is involved in an car accident and Braedyn shows up just in time to rescue her. He can't seem to want to stay away from her but at the same time he's conflicted. They shared an instant connection so this is their journey.

This great, enjoyable read kept me entertained for hours on out. It was intriguing with some family issues. It had some heartbreaking moments but I was left smiling at the end. They shared quite a bit of super hot steamy scenes that brought up the heat. Their chemistry is so off the charts, together it was like fireworks. I loved the storyline that flowed well. The pacing was just right because there was a lot of ground to cover that started a few years back with their separates lives. I didn't feel like it was rushed either. Braedyn's brother was introduced, he will get his story. So I'm anxious for that one.

My only issue is that the conversation between the characters were in the same phrase and paragraph so I often had to reread it. I wasn't always sure who was speaking. What do I know, I'm French.

When I went to put my rating on Goodreads, I noticed that it looks like it's the author's first book. I would never had guessed. I personally think this a great start and worth giving this book a chance.

Standalone told in a dual POV with an HEA. I recommend this story.

Both characters are broken in some way by their pasts, one by loss the other by abuse. Love and trust are hard for either to find or believe in, until fate throws a curve ball at them one night. I felt for both of them for the things that had happened and affected them so deeply, it made it hard for them to go forward with their lives in a healthy way. This is a story that shows how to take a chance second time around and trust in fate to show the way. This is an awesome debut novel by this author, it is hard to believe she hasn't written before. Lots of depth in the emotions throughout, the plot has a great flow even though it goes back and forth a bit between past and present that doesn't spoil or jump about as you would think. Both characters start their first section with past moving onto the present where it joins in their meeting, I found this a much better way of working a story than when it goes back and forth all the way through which disrupts and throws you off kilter when reading. There is some violence and a feel of threat as well as explicit sexual content. I loved how once they do connect it is all or nothing and they support each other completely in everything, they manage to not push for answers from each other before its given freely. This story also gives hints and leads into the follow up book, which is something I like as it gives an insight into events from another perspective before you start reading the story from the main character. A love story with a suspenseful twist and some hot firefighters, honestly where can you go wrong in wanting to read this.

Braedyn and Rylee are two people stuck in a relationship rut.  Braedyn can’t get past losing his wife and Rylee struggles to get out of a toxic relationship.  Their meeting was out of the ordinary.

Rylee has been run-off the road and now is in a ditch and Braedyn was on the same road on his way home.  Braedyn is a fireman and his instinct to assist came in loud and clear coming upon Rylee’s vehicle.  What he didn’t expect was how responsive he was to her in his arms and how protective he was of her.   This awareness has Braedyn displaying unusual behavior that does not go unnoticed by his friends. Braedyn is perplexed with his emotions towards Rylee and even he can see he is giving her mixed signals but unable to control it.

Rylee can’t keep Braedyn out of her mind and it doesn’t help that she sees him often while in the hospital and even afterwards as he inserted himself in her life.  He’s everything she’s ever wanted in a man but she senses he’s holding back from her.  She’s doesn’t know how to get him to open up.   Their righteousness of being together she feels in her gut.  The physical part of their relationship is frenzied, scorching hot, and insatiable but she knows it’s more than that and so does Braedyn.

Second chance on love, trusting your hunches and finding in the depths of despair, love emerges.

3.5⭐️

h: Rylee
H: Braedyn
(Dual POVs)

The story starts off with a glimpse into both character’s pasts, giving you background as to why they both feel the way that they do about life and the opposite sex. Ry and Brae cross paths when Rylee’s car is upside down in a ditch and Braedyn pulls over to save her. Not having much of anyone to help, Braedyn offers to help Rylee with a few tasks and their relationship blossoms from there.

I’d say this story is very much insta-love. I appreciated that the characters were consciously aware of the pull they felt towards each other and didn’t try to fight it. There were quite a few sex scenes, which I’m not complaining about, I just wish we got more of a deeper intellectual connection. It saddened me when there were quite a few time jumps where it would’ve been nice for some of those intellectual developments. I understood Rylee being co-dependent in her previous relationship but I didn’t like that she felt she needed a man to complete her. Overall, I enjoyed this book and will be giving the next book in the series a try!

Favorite quotes:
Rylee has reawakened my heart to the possibility of a future. -Braedyn pg 109

Thoughts: So I just could not continue with this one. I gave it an honest chance, but maybe it's just me, I didn't like the writing. I couldn't get behind these characters. The way the characters ALL spoke, was just not fluid. It almost seemed like English wasn't the original language and this was a translation, I don't know if that makes sense, but it just didn't run smoothly. Also, I get that his first wife was the love of his life, but WHY make readers see him having sex with his wife, and not even once, but various times? I understand she was a huge part of his life, but we aren't reading a romance about him and his ex-wife, this book is supposed to be about him and ANOTHER woman. If you are giving us those scenes, why not extend that same to the h and her ex? I did not mean to make this so long but thinking about it, it just bugged me. I did not finish this but I skimmed a bit of the rest of the book and it wasn't for me. Not sure if I would read another from this series/author.

“Just hold on. I’ve got you.”

Some of the sweetest words I’ve ever read! Braedyn and Rylee’s story is one of inspiration. In order to get to their HEA a lot of emotional healing has been through. Braedyn has to cope with his young wife’s death. He feels heartbreak isn’t worth it. He vows to never fall in love again. Rylee feels like she will never find that all consuming love. All she has ever had is abusive, controlling men in her life. When her abusive ex boyfriend runs her off the road nearly killing her, she is pulled into Braedyn’s arms. For the first time in her life she feels secure and safe. She wants to remain in his arms forever, he’s afraid of his feelings and lets her go, alone. He tries to forget her but fails, she tries to remind herself that she’s better off alone and fails. As time goes on Rylee realizes that Braedyn is it for her but he’s still struggling with his feelings. Can Braedyn find his strength and courage to love again before Rylee disappears into a life of what might have been?

Real People Tortured Soul

So to say this book is a second chance is slightly misleading. He is getting a second chance at love with the main female lead. The beginning of the book had me kind of curious and skeptical because of the bouncing around of time frames, however the spice in the prologue kept me in the book until I got to where the points of view meet and the story starts to make sense. I also appreciated that they don’t get together and married within 3 months. It’s a realistic timeframe. The first responder part of this book was nicely accurate and points out very important parts of of the profession that if your not in it you don’t understand, and how that can affect a relationship with someone outside of the field. As someone who spent 8 years in EMS I appreciated the description of the schedule in the beginning because I feel anyone could understand it, and it was realistic. The spice was very nicely done and I very much enjoyed the book! Overall a solid 4 stars, and 3.5 chili peppers. I will definitely be trying more of this authors books.

This book! It has so much to offer. There's love, loss, secrets, firefighters, a few laughs and a beautiful romance neither of the characters expected.

Braeden is a firefighter just going through the motions of life but very dedicated to his job. He's had a horrible loss of someone he loved more than life itself. He's not looking to ever fall in love again. Rylee is a wedding planner betrayed by love and finds herself in an abusive relationship by someone she really liked. She's determined that planning weddings for other people and never herself is the way she's going to live her life.

When her abuser ex boyfriend tries to run her off the road, it's there she meets the hot rescuer, Braeden. He finds he has this unbelievable pull to protect her and he can't figure out why. It's there that things turn for both of them whether they are willing to face it or not.

This book is so good! It's short, sweet and steamy with a great ending!

Oh my fireman, literally oh my!!! Braedyn has a sad past and he is finally moving on, feeling his life getting back into sync. Till one night driving home his life changed.

Rylee is working hard to move on from her recent relationship that was ultimately toxic. As she moved on he didn't like it, so he ran her off the road one night, a night that forever changed her.

Braedyn felt an instant connection to Rylee has he helped her out of her accident. He couldn't keep her out of his mind so he would go check on her and see how she was doing. Rylee sat in her hospital alone and wondered what she was going to do with herself. That is till Braedyn offered to help her out.

These two just felt right from the beginning to me. This couple yes had faults for themselves as they both navigate a new relationship and new feelings for both of them. I loved every second of this book.

I enjoyed Rylee and Braedyn's love for each other. They were both relatable with flaws and emotional issues. They each also had an insatiable sexual appetite making them a perfect fit.

I did get tired of the back and forth from present day to recent past with each of them separately. I also didn't connect as well with the side characters that were present from the start as I did with Braedyn's brother. Up until Braedyn's brother was brought in, I could have taken or left the side characters. Maybe it was because they seemed to have a perfect life and we didn't see them struggle with anything. I'm not sure. But once Guage was brought into the story I was immediately looking to see if he would get his own book.

Overall, I really liked this book and will definitely continue the series.

I did not realize that Reawakened His Heart was KL Myers debut novel until after I finished reading it, and I must say that she did an EXCELLENT job! I love it when I can feel the emotions that the characters are going through when reading a book and I definitely felt the emotions that Brae and Ry were going through! Braedyn swore off having a serious relationship when his wife, who was also his high school sweetheart, suddenly died. Rylee was not looking for a serious relationship after her last serious boyfriend was abusive. The two meet when Rylee was in a car accident and Braedyn helped her. They both felt an immediate connection, but they both kept fighting it because neither of them wanted a repeat of their past relationships. A definite must read for romance readers!

I love when i find new authors to follow and I have found a great one in KL Myers.

This is a beautifully emotional story that had you completely addicted from start to finish. Braedyn is a hot sexy firefighter who has had his heartbroken and wasn't interested in finding love again, that is until he rescues Rylee from an accident. Once he has saved her he can't stay away from her. They are both damaged in different ways but together they can heal the cracks and find a second chance at happiness.

Good job Braedyn is a firefighter as they would definitely burn the place down with their chemistry, it was so hot and steamy it made my kindle steamy.

This is a definte MUST READ. i shall be looking out for her future books.

I gave the book a 3-star rating. The storyline helped turn it into a 4-star review.

Reawaken His Heart is the first book I've read by this author.

I have to admit reviewing the book was tough. The storyline was good but overall the book left me in a gray area between it was ok and I liked it.

The fact is after about 40% into the book there were sex scenes in just about every chapter and I think that is responsible for me feeling the way I do. To me having so many of them were page fillers instead of developing the characters more. Her writing is great however all the sex scenes muddied the water for me.

I will most likely read the next book Reclaiming His Life because the mysterious Gauge holds my attention.

I loved this book. This was a story about Braedyn & Rylee who both come from pasts of being hurt. They meet in a way neither was prepared for and no matter how hard they try, they can't deny their connection. This story is about them letting themselves heal and let go of their pasts so they can enjoy their future together. I loved learning about these characters and following their journey to true love.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good love story. To anyone who has a past they can't let go of. This book shows how important it is for a person to heal from their past so they can live a happy future. And this book also had lots of sexy scenes. So get ready for a hot story!

Waiting for the love that’s worth it. Both Braedyn and Rylee have pasts. Pasts filled with hurt and pain that have skewed their views for love in the future. An accident and being at the right place and right time is all it takes to change their lives forever. It’s an uphill battle. To get to a beautiful end, you must first trudge through the fear and pain that lace the pathway.
I enjoyed the story overall. Braedyn bugged me a bit- I probably would have given up on him way towards the beginning. Ryker also bugged me. I wanted her to have more strength, more fight. But maybe the characters needed it , needed these flaws to get to their ending. I’m looking forward to the next story.

I can't believe this is a debut novel, KL Myers did a great job of jumping in with both feet in Reawaken His Heart and made this story feel like opening up your mind to a group of old friends.

Braedyn lost the love of his life suddenly and had no desire to be in a relationship and be hurt again until he meets Rylee. Rylee isn't all that interested in men herself as she was in an abusive relationship, but when she meets Braedyn things are different.

I really loved this book, couldn't put it down until I finished this story.
