Victims of tragedy at Ohio State Fair identified

Authorities have identified the victims of the ride malfunction at the Ohio State Fair.

Tyler Jarrell, 18, from Columbus, Ohio was pronounced dead at the fairground, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. He was a rising senior at Franklin Heights High School in Columbus.

Jarrell had just enlisted with the US Marine Corps and was scheduled to start boot camp next summer.

The Marines offered their condolences to his family, saying:

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to Poolee Tyler Jarrell’s family and all of those affected by his loss. The Marines here are greatly saddened by this tragedy. We are truly proud to have known him as one of the brave few willing to step up and serve his country in the United States Marine Corps.

Jarrell, 18, enlisted with the Marines on July 21, 2017. He was scheduled to attend basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, June 18, 2018. He wanted to be in the Infantry or serve as a combat engineer."

They identified the victims who were injured as:

  • Tamika Dunlap, 36, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio
  • Russell Franks, 42, of Columbus, Ohio
  • Keziah Lewis, 19, of Columbus, Ohio
  • Jacob Andrews, 22, of Pataskala, Ohio
  • Jennifer Lambert, 18, of Columbus, Ohio
  • Abdihakim Hussein, 19, of Columbus, Ohio
  • A 14 year-old male whose name is being withheld at the request of the family

Authorities are continuing to investigate what happened to cause the Fire Ball ride to malfunction.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident and has information or video to contact them at 614-799-6633.
