    Rating each Serie A team's summer transfers, Part 1: Milan's buys are mostly duds | by Fabrizio Romano

    How have Serie A’s teams done on the transfer market so far?

    Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is gradually taking us through each club, and judging them all according to the work done in the summer window. Only one of the seven teams reviewed today has earned the maximum three stars. Milan, for their part, have done well despite their acquisitions.

    Let’s take a look, shall we?
     
    MILAN One Star - The true signings are the returning loanees, Paletta and Suso. Otherwise, the summer signings have not had an impact: Vangioni, Sosa and Gomez are Desaparecidos. Mati Fernandez has been unlucky, Pasalic has only played 91 minutes, and Lapadula has played less, though his recent backheel goal could well make a difference.
     
    ROMA Two Stars - Bruno Peres has become a fundamental cog in the machine. Fazio has been a positive surprise. Juan Jesus hasn’t done much, while Alisson and Gerson have had very little opportunity. Vermaelen has been an injury problem for years, while Mario Rui has been unlucky.
     
    CAGLIARI THREE STARS! - Director of Sport Capozucca has been impeccable: Bruno Alves has been a great find, while Isla and Padoin have both been good. Tachtsidis has been a success, while Bittante is a useful role player. Bosman star Marco Borriello’s goals have made all the difference to a side looking to stay up.
     
    SASSUOLO Two Stars - Pol Lirola is a clever move, with a second year in the Neroverdi’s shirt on the cards, too. Letschert is a good utility player. Sensi and Mazzitelli have been great finds, the first one is considered to be a future star and scored a great goal against Crotone recently. Matri has been up and down, while Ragusa and Ricci really haven’t delivered yet. Iemmello is a promising one, however.
     
    SAMPDORIA Two Stars - Lots of changes, but lots of good ones. Torreira’s move is a masterclass, the Uruguayan youngster arriving for a paltry 1.8 million. Linetty and Bruno Fernandes have also been very successful, while Schick will need more time to bloom. Praet has been a disappointment so far, and yet is one of the club’s most expensive buys of all time. The jury is still unconvinced by Pavlovic, Dodò, Budimir and Cigarini.
     
    PESCARA One Star - Few have made an impression: Cristante and Bizzarri have been good, Biraghi has been inconsistent. Gyomber has been unlucky, Bahebeck an injury risk, Muric has disappeared, and Simone Pepe… is best forgotten for the time being. Aquilani has been inconsistent, while Manaj is promising, but not the striker Pescara need to stay up.
     
    EMPOLI Two Stars - Director of Sport Carli has made some good additions: Dimarco is talented, Pasqual is already a leader in the locker room, and Tello is a good player to throw in. Veseli has been a surprise, while Jose Mauri has Milan fans teeming with excitement. Alberto Gilardino could become more than just a last-minute card. Matheus Pereira is the only big flop here. The team is also light in attack.
