Dana White: Relationship with Georges St. Pierre ‘Has Never Been Better’

Perhaps some progress is being made in negotiations between Georges St. Pierre and the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

After meeting with St. Pierre recently, UFC President Dana White offered an upbeat take on the situation in a text message to Postmedia News.

“My relationship has never been better with GSP. I’m glad we got together,” White wrote.

Earlier this week, the former welterweight champion took to Twitter to address a challenge from Michael Bisping to fight at UFC 206 in Toronto on Dec. 10.

“Nothing would make me happier in the world than to fight you in Toronto, Michael,” St. Pierre said. “Last week I met with [new owner Ari Emanuel] and I made peace with [UFC President Dana White]. I tried to resolve things, but unfortunately right now it’s not happening. Hopefully things will change soon.”

While White seemed to echo GSP’s sentiments regarding their relationship, the UFC boss remained adamant that the Canadian will not be added to the UFC 206 lineup. However, White did tell Postmedia News that St. Pierre remains under contract with the UFC, “so yes if he returns to fighting it would be with us.” St. Pierre had previously declared that he was a free agent.

St. Pierre hasn’t competed since defeating Johny Hendricks via split decision at UFC 167 in November 2013. The meeting with White could be viewed as an encouraging sign since the UFC president has consistently cast doubt upon the notion that St. Pierre is serious about a return to fighting.
