5 Tips for A Friendsgiving to Remember!

It’s not uncommon for families to be spread out, far from each other, sometimes making the holidays a challenge for some single and coupled Savvy Aunties. Traveling can be expensive, you may not have the days off work, or your siblings with the nieces and nephews have made plans to be with their in-laws. Or, it may be that this year, you simply want to have a more adult-oriented Thanksgiving with friends. Whatever the case, this may be the year to give Friendsgiving a try.
This modern holiday is exactly what it sounds like – Thanksgiving with friends, after all, friends are the family we choose!
Turkey and Chill
For many, the idea of a Friendsgiving is much more relaxing than Thanksgiving with the family. You can kick-back, watch the game, and not have to be aware of your behavior in front of parents or the kids.
Game Day!
Share some laughs over games like my personal favorite, Cards Against Humanity! Or, be nostalgic and play one or two of these Top 10 Board Games of all time, including our founder, Melanie Notkin's favorite - Pictionary!
Hostess with the Mostess
Recently move into your new home? Perhaps this is the year to be the host at your place - and not a guest. What better way to do that than to invite your chosen family over, and make the best Friendsgiving dinner ever? We can see your Instagram filling up, already!
Or Try Your Luck
To ease the pressure of entertaining, a potluck-style dinner is the way to go. This not only relieves the financial burden of buying and preparing a meal that feeds a group, but allows everyone involved to feel a connection to Friendsgiving. Concerned with what they will bring to the table? Bonappetit.com recommends holding a “best dish” vote as a means of motivating everyone to get creative and excited to participate.
Mixology Time!
For those more interested in the beverage part of the evening, assign friends to go the distance and create their own cocktail to pair with dinner! Or have everyone be assigned mixing one of these delicious and festive drinks I spotted at Huffingtonpost.com.to pair with their favorite dish.
Happy Friendsgiving!
