Trouble seems to follow Harper MacLain wherever she goes. Her overly trusting personality and trying everything to protect those she loves has landed her in a whole heap of trouble. Thrust into her ex-boyfriend Detective Lucas Sullivan's case. She fights the temptation to fall back into bad habits… and his bed.

Detective Lucas Sullivan buried himself in his work when Harper left him. The year apart has left him confused and hurting. Now danger has found Harper and Lucas knows he'll do anything to keep her safe and in his life forever.

So first up, full disclosure, I did not read the first book in this series. It would be my recommendation that you do start with book one because I honestly was a bit confused at the beginning of this one. I felt like I was dropped into the middle of a story and I should already know the background on these characters and what passed before. That said, I was only lost for a couple chapters, three at the most. Then the story took off and didn't let up until the end.

description

I really enjoyed this one. It was nonstop action from word GO. The plot flowed nicely and I never felt the need to skim. There was a great cast of secondary characters. The couple of book one, plus a third character that was a big part of the plot of this one. From the looks of it, he is going to be the hero in book three.

I loved both Harper and Lucas. Harper to me was just a really strong character. She loved Lucas with everything she had, but because of certain limits Lucas had, she knew they were heading in different directions, and it was best for both of them if they ended things. Lucas had his reasons for feeling the way he did, and I understood them. I wanted to smack them both on occasion, and just tell them to TALK ALREADY but it didn't take away from my enjoyment of them as a couple. I thought they had Smokin hot chemistry between them, and some sweet feel good moments that made me tear up. As well as the hurt and longing they had for each other, and that added a little of the type of angst that I love.

This did have an epilogue, but it wasn't a couple-centered one. It was a more of a lead into the third book in the series. I'm sure we'll hear more about this couple in the third book, so I wasn't too disappointed. Overall, this was a cracking good read and gets two thumbs up from yours truly.

Ever since I read Betrayed by a Kiss back in August, this author has been on my radar. I eagerly awaited her next book in this series and I was NOT disappointed. Crazily intense chemistry and the push and pull of remembered pain and heartbreak were the makings of the relationship between the main characters. Could they risk it all, life and limb, for a second chance together?

Harper MacLain (sister of Dane from Book One) is up to her neck in trouble. Fooled by Joe (a bad guy from Book One), she's got no shortage of bad guys coming after her because of the mess/investigation of WE. It seems that the only person who can help her is the absolute last guy she wants to see. Lucas Sullivan broke both of their hearts a year ago but he hasn't forgotten Harper. Nor has he stopped loving her (and her him). Now it's up to him to not only keep her alive but to convince her to take another chance on him.

A great book full of action and suspense and the rekindling of a relationship that both characters can't seem to let go of.

I have mixed feelings about this book. It could be because I did not read book number one and that is critical to understand the concept of the story. I think that is a part two of the series needs to be highlighted a bit more so that the reader understands they're going to be missing a big portion of the plot should they decide to pick up this book.

With that said, it took me a bit to get into the story and understand what was going on. Once I did, I began to really enjoy the story. There are plenty of twists and turns, some of which are expected, but some are unexpected too.

And, of course, the best part romance readers enjoy is the romantic portion; the connection between the two characters which was deliciously hot. The author gave us a few steamy scenes but plenty of anticipation and buildup. Plus a few issues the characters had to overcome along the way too.

Because I was able to figure out the plot I did enjoy the read. However, I do feel I missed out on quite a bit by not reading the first portion of the series. So make sure that you pick up book one if you're going to read this one.

There's also more in the series to come and that should be interesting read as well.

This is one of those cases with a misleading blurb. I have not read a paragraph in the story in which any of the protagonists is more interested in saving their life than in making out. Contrary to what the blurb advertises.
It has been uncomfortable to read how the bad guys kidnap them by taking them out of bed and taking them away just in their undies, of course she with fewer cloths than him. Reminding me at each line how much leg is she showing. But the icing on the cake has been when they are locked up in a container (the last time something like this happened to a relative, she ended up dead...) and they are so engrossed in heavy making out that they don't even realize that the bad guy has just opened the door…
I don't know whether to call it ridiculous or offensive, really.

***

**I received a copy of Tempted by a Touch via Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary review of this book**

Tempted By a Touch is book two of the Unlikely Hero series by Kris Rafferty. I highly recommend reading the first book, Betrayed by a Kiss before diving into this book as it begins where the other one left off. This book focuses on Harper Mac Lain and Lucas Sullivan, I give the book 4.9 stars and there is a hint of who the next book will be about at the end.

Harper Mac Lain is starting to wonder why people die around her family but her biggest regret is breaking up with Lucas. But he follows her to Manchester, he hopes for a reconciliation but first they have to get beyond the interview with Joe Folsom. He's asked to speak with Harper only before giving up information that could bring down alot of people within the police department. What happens next will lead the reader on a wild ride with a kidnapping, finding the coveted journal in an unlikely place, a revelation of a secret Hayden has kept from her family and Lucas and finally a hint of Lucas and Harper's possible happily ever after.

Detective Lucas Sullivan realizes that he still has feelings for Hayden but his fear is that he will end up like his late father who put his job as a cop before his family. He fears that taking Hayden to speak to Joe Folsom will lead to her being in danger, because whomever is on the list will do anything to have it disappear. When Hayden's life is in danger, he will do anything to keep her safe even if it means his own life is in danger.

Tempted By a Touch is a non-stop action packed book that will tie up some loose ends from the previous book but will also shed light on the next book.

I didn't realise that this was the 2nd book in an arc but I really enjoyed it and didn't feel too much out of the loop as there was enough recap within to wrap my head around.

Harper has had a tough year or so. She lost her sister-in-law, dumped her boyfriend, returned to her hometown and had to watch as someone she regarded as a friend ripped her family apart from the inside. But more than that she has to deal with the fact that she may have been instrumental in giving information to the traitor.

Lucas Sullivan is a good cop, it's all he knows but when he realised that his job would always come between him and Harper, he faltered. But when Harper dumped him, like a little lamb he followed her to NH, just so he could keep an eye on her. Now she is in the sights of the architect of an elaborate scheme, involving crooked cops, and she may no longer be safe. Lucas however knows where she will be safe, with him!!

I loved the fact that even though she was enmeshed in a family of cops, Lucas decided she couldn't handle being a cops wife - what an idiot! But thankfully Harper is made of sterner stuff and she eventually makes her point. That said Harper had her share of the blame to shoulder by deciding to run before Lucas eventually left her, even though he had no plans on doing any such thing. COMMUNICATION people LOL! Strong story, engaging characters and I can't wait for more. I'm going to go find book 1 and get caught up!!

Tempted by a touch written by Kris Rafferty book#2 in “An Unlike Hero Series”

This was my first book by Kris Rafferty; I suggest to read “Betrayed by a kiss” before you will start this book.

Harper and Lucas dated for a while and both felt their their soul deep connection. Unfortunately, their ideas for what their future together should look like were vastly different, and Harper felt she had to let go. Lucas is still angry, but when another's actions place her in danger, he can't help but make sure she is protected.

I loved the cover for this book. It is what initially caught my interest since I was unfamiliar with this author. I ended up really getting into the story and the characters. I especially enjoyed Caleb and am excited he will be getting his own story.

I enjoyed this story a lot. The characters have a strong connection, and I liked them both so much. Too many times, I like either the male or female lead, but not both. In this case, both characters are extremely likeable and relatable, and the reader can't help but root for their HEA. I read this as a standalone and definitely was aware that I was missing out on things that had happened in the book prior, but that didn't make me like the book any less. In fact, it made me really want to read the first one (and then read this one again!). This is the first book I've read by this author, and I look forward to reading more.

Wow! There was a lot to this story and a lot to pay attention to. I was really interested in how the story would play out, who was innocent, who was not, would Lucas and Harper find their happy ever after, what other secrets did everyone have?? Such a fun and exciting, not to mention sexy roller coaster of a ride. I loved how Lucas went into straight protector mode from the very beginning of their story. Harper was also a protector of both her family and Lucas. And they both so easily fell back into their sexual awareness and belonging for each other despite their relationship ending a year before. Ms. Rafferty really keeps you on your toes and makes you pay close attention to all the players in this story. If you do not, you might miss key evidence.

Much like the first book in this series, this one was disappointing. It was confusing at times with the various characters in and out of the book. Apparently Harper thought keeping important secrets was the best way to keep herself safe even when these secrets have a direct impact on her well being.

I struggled relating to the characters and feeling any type of a connection between them.

Nice story

Lots of action as they try to find out who are the dirty cops. All the while, they are being chased. But who is actually after them, we do not find out till towards the end. Surprises made for a good book.

**Disclaimer: This is the second book in the Unlikely Heroes series. While this could be read as a standalone due to the author supplying enough information to keep new readers in the loop, I highly recommend reading book one, Betrayed by a Kiss, first.**

A little over a year ago, Lucas, a detective, and Harper, working toward her teaching degree, met and the attraction was instantaneous, eventually leading to their living together. However, though they loved each other, it seemed as though they wanted two different things. Lucas, due to what he experienced as the child of a cop, believed those in his field shouldn't be involved in permanent relationships, not wanting to put a wife and kids through the possibility of losing him in the line of duty, as he lost his father at the age of fourteen. Harper, having grown up with a father and brother both in law enforcement, knows what to expect with loving a cop, and wants a future with Lucas. When Harper realizes Lucas can't, or won't, give her that, she makes the painful decision for both of them and breaks things off.

But Lucas just can't let her go and eventually accepts a promotion he had previously turned down because it allowed him to be closer to her after she moved back to her hometown. In the year since, they've avoided being alone together, but that changes when Harper, determined to do the right thing, agrees to meet with Joe Folsom, her brother, Dane's, best friend, former partner, and the man responsible for killing Dane's first wife, Alice. Harper knows they need the list of dirty cops Joe says he'll give her, but she also knows, as does Lucas, that this will focus certain people's attention on her, such as those willing to commit murder to keep their secrets from being revealed.

What happens when Lucas and Harper are forced into close proximity to keep her safe? Can their connection, their attraction, their love, be denied? Will Lucas realize that he can have both a family and his career? Or will he choose to walk away from his job in order to have a life with Harper? Will Harper get the teaching job she's dreamt of? Will Lucas and Harper talk things over and admit the love they have for one another? Is that love enough? Is their a HEA in store for Lucas and Harper?

One-click now to follow along as two people find their way back to one another and discover their love is the most important thing. I liked this book and as I had read the first book, featuring Dane and Marnie's story, it was nice to read about Lucas and Harper, both of whom were mentioned in the previous book, and to learn what happened to their relationship because the love between them was obvious upon being introduced to their characters. I'm looking forward to book three, Seduced by Sin, and discovering more about Caleb, Marnie's long time friend and well known criminal. What is he hiding?

I cannot get enough of this series. There are so many hidden secrets and dark truths to be uncovered that once I start reading, I can't stop. It's freaking awesome and highly addictive. I couldn't wait to see what Kris Rafferty had in store for me with the second installment, Tempted by a Touch.

First off - this book should definitely not be read as a standalone even though it tells the adventurous tale of a different couple than the two who star in Betrayed by a Kiss. Without the introduction of all the various characters and the first book's plot, Tempted by a Touch would be mega confusing. The criminal drama that Dane and Marnie were fighting against then is now Lucas and Harper's problem.

Here's the deal. Harper is Dane's sister. She generally stayed in the background in Betrayed by a Kiss but it turns out that she was more of a key player than you would've ever realized. As I read, I learned that she's keeping a lot of secrets and is terrified that her awful truths will come out. It's intense and really stressful for her. You anticipate the moment that it will all go to hell.

Added to that stress is the return of Harper's ex, Lucas. These two share complicated history. Basically, they wanted two very different things from life and they couldn't find a compromise or middle ground to meet on. So she decided to leave their life together in Boston to return home. This decision broke both of their hearts. So he followed her in hopes that maybe they could get back together.

It's all so crazy. Not only do they need to uncover who the corrupt cops are on the police force but they also need to try and find a way to resolve their feelings or move forward together. It is suspenseful and thrilling to read - I loved it!

It's an incredible journey and most of it kept me on my toes. I absolutely recommend this book - it's highly entertaining and enjoyable. And I can't wait to get Caleb story I think his book might be the best one yet.

This is a continuation of book one and although it might be read as a standalone, it would be advisable to read book one first to get the full picture.

Lucas is a detective and has been working on a case involving corrupt cops.

Harper has a part time job whilst applying for a more permanent one. The past year hasn't been easy for her due to the same case which Lucas is investigating.

They were lovers until a year ago but Harper has been avoiding Lucas because she doesn't think they have a future together. The investigation is getting more dangerous and Harper is stuck right in the middle of all the trouble. This puts them in each other's path again and resisting the temptation of rekindling what they once had is a struggle. They want each other but not the same things in life.

Harper is dedicated to her family and this devotion had led to mistakes which could be costly to her and her loved ones. She has kept some of her lack of judgement to herself but as usual these things have a habit of coming to light. They find themselves in some dire situations and despite the misguided lack of trust, they stand by each other. Is that enough to open their eyes to what they are missing?

Danger is around every corner. Knowing who to trust is near impossible. The suspense is nail biting. The love is undeniable and the passion is sizzling. It's a great story line and the characters are very well portrayed. It's nice to see how the characters from the previous book have progressed. A rewarding read indeed.

I was kindly issued with an eARC via NetGalley. This is an honest review.

Tempted by a Touch is the second book in ‘An unlikely Hero’ series by Kris Rafferty. To fully understand the story you do need to read book 1 in the series first.
So this is Harper’s story and we first meet her in the first book as she is Dane’s story. Towards the end we find out that she has some secrets and they are revealed in this book. I was really looking forward to this book as I absolutely loved book 1 but unfortunately for me it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. Don’t get me wrong I still really liked it but maybe just not as much as the first but it still worth reading. I found it lost pace in the middle of the book but it definitely picked back up when the final twist was revealed – and what a twist it was!
The story is crammed full of action and keeps you guessing until the very end. I loved that there was another strong heroine lead in Harper – she definitely kept Lucas on his toes! I think that the author did an amazing job with Lucas’ character. I don’t think I’ve ever changed my mind about a character so much in one story; his identity was very well hidden! Very cleverly written!
I think another thing that this author does really well is how she gets you thinking about the next book before this one has even finished, I love how they intertwine ever so subtly. I’m definitely anxiously awaiting the next book in this series – I need to know more about Caleb – like Lucas I can’t make my mind up about him!

A complicated second chance…
Harper and Lucas were once a thing. Until they weren’t… They both had different ideas on what their future held so parting ways was probably the smart thing to do. Even if they both haven’t really moved on. This is the plot within a plot as they are brought together in a story rife with suspense and questions, not knowing who they could trust. Not even each other…
“Harper was freebasing worry.”
And she isn’t the only one! This plot has twists and turns galore as the elusive ‘bad guy’ has no name or face. Surrounded by police corruption, the good guys don’t know who to trust while suspicions are lobbied at everyone. Lucas is determined to keep Harper safe even as she tries to keep herself aloof from him. Everyone seems to be hiding something but nothing will be left secret for long.
Close quarters mean Lucas and Harper they have to deal with their past. They fight each other and the feelings that haven’t gone away…
“Make me forget.”
“I’ll make you remember.”
The emotion between Lucas and Harper felt real and right, their struggles a contrast to the harmony and heat they found together. At the same time, I felt like I walked into the middle of a conversation and spent much of the time trying to catch up. This story is a standalone but I know my enjoyment of it would have been higher if I’d read the first book in the series. Now to find that first book!

As I finish reading TEMPTED BY A TOUCH, I find myself still shaking my head and chuckling. I thoroughly enjoyed all the twists and turns this story provided. Although this is the 2nd book in the An Unlikely Hero series, each book is a standalone, full length story that can be enjoyed out of order. I still need to read book 1~ BETRAYED BY A KISS! I didn't feel lost by not reading book 1 first, GREAT JOB Kris Rafferty!!
Series Order:
Book #1 Betrayed by a Kiss
Book #3 Tempted by a Touch
Detective Lucas Sullivan moved from Boston and accepted a job in Manchester so he could be close to Harper MacLain, but he couldn't or rather wouldn't acknowledge that information not only to himself, but DEFINITELY not to her. She broke up with him a year ago because he knew he couldn't settle down, get married and have kids. Now he had to protect her no matter what. The job always came first and according to his father a career is the meal, love, the seasoning.(*direct book quote). But he just cannot get over Harper, he selfishly wants her. Harper wants Lucas, but won't let him know it because he's still just looking for now not a future.
What happens between Harper and Lucas? Will he acknowledge he was forever with her, or will he let Harper walk away again? You'll have to read TEMPTED BY TOUCH to find out.

It’s suspenseful romance novel. Lucas is a cop who is trying to apprehend dirty cops in his precinct. Things get very dangerous after Joe is murdered under the watch of police officers. His job is important to Lucas but more important is the safety of woman he loves. Now her life is danger because everyone things she has the evidence required to close this case. Unfortunately, she has no clue about anything. She is just trying to keep her brother, Dane, from finding out the role she played in hindering his investigation all thanks to Joe. First she gets kidnapped then there are people chasing her. It seems that Lucas is the only one who is standing between her and impending disaster.
They had dated before but in the end they realized love isn’t enough but now that they’re spending time together other things start to seem insignificant. They both tempt each other and can’t seem to stay away. Only problem is that right now they have to try very hard to stay alive and may be catch the people who are after them.
The whole book was full of suspense. It was action packed read where things just to make any sense until the very end. But once things become clear it increases enjoyment of readers. I for one enjoyed reading this book a lot. And just loved all the characters.

P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book.

Definitely not a new concept but a great read anyway.

With a focused yet innocent outlook on life, Harper is a refreshing character. When she learns that her relationship with Lucas has no hope of fitting into her goals of family and children, she does the only thing her heart will allow her and moves on.

Lucas is a cop, honest, hard working and gives 100% to his job. He loves Harper but knows as a cop marriages rarely last and his dad is proof of that. So he decides to live in the here and now. That is until Harper up and leaves him. Yet it can't just let it go and moves and takes a new job to be near her.

When Harper becomes part of one of his investigations and he learns her life may be in on the line, he begins to question his goals and his feelings for this very naive woman. She trusts to deeply those around her and it almost costs her everything. Can these two work together to keep her safe and get to the truth? Read the book to find out.

And just to tease us the author sets up an ending promising us more intrigue into her next book. Caleb captivated my attention in the part he played in "Tempted by a Touch", and the teaser has definitely enticed me into coming back for more.

Tempted by a Touch is well written with lots of action and suspense woven in with steamy moments and emotional ties. Because I haven't read the first book of this series, I have to admit I was a bit lost in the beginning, but after I was into it a bit more I got past feeling lost. Detective Lucas Sullivan is determined to protect his ex, Harper MacLain. He still loves her and even followed her to Manchester just to be near her. But, Harper is just as determined to stay away from him; she wants things he can't (won't) offer her: marriage and kids. Sure, she loves him, but she wants a family and Lucas feels as if he just cannot possibly give her a family.

At times, I wanted to smack both Lucas and Harper, their communications skills were seriously lacking. A lot of their relationship problems could have been avoided if they had just been open with each other, about everything! But, I guess it's pretty realistic that they kept things from each other. We all do that, even when it hinders our relationships. But, their connection and their love really couldn't be denied, it was the best part of Tempted by a Touch.

Having not read the first book in this series, I must admit to feeling a bit out of the loop at first. It's almost as if this book just picks up right in the middle of where book one left off. Thankfully, everything eventually recaps, and I caught up to the ongoing parts of the storyline quickly. Harper and Lucas dated for a while and both felt their their soul deep connection. Unfortunately, their ideas for what their future together should look like were vastly different, and Harper felt she had to let go. Lucas is still angry, but when another's actions place her in danger, he can't help but make sure she is protected. He also can't help but find her behavior suspicious at times. Harper is definitely hiding some dangerous secrets, but if she tells the truth she fears she will lose more than just Lucas.

I loved the cover for this book. It is what initially caught my interest since I was unfamiliar with this author. I ended up really getting into the story and the characters. I especially enjoyed Caleb and am excited he will be getting his own story.

This is the second book in the Unlikely Hero series, and is a standalone, but I think that reading the first book would make this one a bit less confusing at first, since this is another piece to the puzzle we are introduced to in "Betrayed By a Kiss".

There is a lot of mystery to be unraveled with this story, and it's got fantastic twists and turns that you won't see coming!

Harper is the sister of an ex-cop who got himself thrown into the middle of a seriously tangled web of corrupt cops and corporations. She is a bit naive, and apparently had a part to play in all of it that was more involved than innocent bystander. She had dated Lucas, a cop at the same precinct her brother used to work at, until they decided that things would never work for them and went their separate ways.

Lucas is working the case to try to figure out which cops are the dirty ones, while also trying to protect the people he isn't supposed to care about (ahem, like Harper).

The world in this series is visceral and gritty and pretty darn fun for the genre. And the romance is definitely not ignored, which some serious heat (and heart!) between our two main characters.

Harper MacLaine and Lucas Sullivan dated and the night he was trying to figure out how to propose she broke up with him and moved from Boston to another town. Fast forward a year later and so much has happened in her life to her family and to top it off there is Lucas standing at her curb to take her to the police station to talk with a bad cop that used her to get information about her brother’s cases, and now he wants to talk to her. She only wants to do it so she can somehow make something right from this past year. Of course Lucas had followed her to the same town and now still is wanting to look after her. The interview with the bad cop goes south and then he is killed on his way back to isolation. Lucas not trusting anyone feels it is up to him to protect Harper. There the story takes off with lots of action, and the two of them working out what happened a year ago. There mystery and though maybe some parts might seem a little stretch it was an entertaining story and I like the two lead characters. A good book. I got this book from netgalley. I gave it 4 stars. Ugh seems to be my down fall of late on some of these series books-first miss that fact before I start and second smack my head when I realize it and am a quarter of the way in. Thank goodness in this one though she does supply enough info to where you are not drowning in dumbness but I know it would of been way better with it. In this one trouble has come to her and Harper finds herself in a pickle and close again to her past Detective Lucas. Stubborness will be a big factor here also because they both will be in denial but so glad the author takes a different course with them especially on the run their paths will be. White knuckled will also how you will find yourself alot while reading this with the action that is packed in mixed with the suspense but then again that is what drew me to this one. Where it finally takes you is the reward you get when you finally make it to the end.

Harper left Lucas because she finally realized that he would never want the family she has always wanted. Since then Harper and her family have gone through deaths, kidnapping, and betrayal and she couldn't turn to Lucas for help. However, when she lands in the middle of his investigation and he has to protect her, the old feelings and attraction come rushing back. With secrets, lies, and the investigation getting in the way, can they ever be happy?

So I thought this book started off pretty slow. I couldn't really start to get into the story until the fifth chapter or so. After that, it took off. The story line hooks you, but I feel like certain parts dragged on. I really liked the characters!

Tempted By a Touch by Kris Rafferty is a good read filled with suspenseful moments. I had a little trouble getting into this story, but that could be due to the fact that this is the second book in the series. The one thing that I really liked about this story was that I had no clue who the bad guys were. The author keeps you out of the loop until it’s all wrapped up. The romance part of the story was done very well and I’m glad everything ended how it should. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series and I am glad I found a new author to follow.

I will say that this cover is everything! I would have bought this just book based on the cover alone, but I’m happy to say that the story inside was worth the read.

***ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

While some have said this is a standalone, others have said you need to read #1 before you read this one. I would wholeheartedly agree you need to read #1 first. I felt lost for most of the book without the history or background of #1's storyline which was very prevalent in #2. I wish it had been made clear to me in NetGalley that this was part of a series.

Maybe it's the series issue but I felt a disconnect between the MCs. There was history between them that I was given glimpses of but their chemistry, passion I didn't feel in this story.

Tempted by a touch written by Kris Rafferty book#2 in “An Unlike Hero Series”

This was my first book by Kris Rafferty; I suggest to read “Betrayed by a kiss” before you will start this book.
Will there be a second chance for Lucas? To find out you have to read this awesome written book/series!
This was my first Kris Rafferty, but it won’t be my last! I liked the way this book was written, it caught my attention from the beginning.
