I won this book from Goodreads/ Firstreads giveaway, Thank You
The story revolves around Samuel, a scoundrel who convinces Emily, a spinster to marry and move from Springfield, Illinois to Oregon. The trip is hot, dirty and very arduous. As they travel cross country you can tell that Samuel needs Emily in order to succeed in his dream of owning land and becoming his own man. Unfortunately, Samuel doesn't love Emily and even though she tries to believe that love will come his actions reveal his true feelings and character. The story was captivating and you couldn't help but get caught up in the struggle emily had to go through to survive. Her strength and character fascinated me. Samuel's malevolent conduct repulsed me. It was a wonderful read. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
