The University of Minnesota, Morris has named its next chancellor, six months after the previous appointee said he didn’t want the job after all.

Michelle Behr, provost and dean of Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama, will start Feb. 6, pending approval by the Board of Regents next month.

“Michelle’s broad experience in the liberal arts, deep commitment to students and engagement in the broader higher education community make her an ideal person to lead the Morris campus,” University of Minnesota President Eric Kaler said in a news release.

A three-time Fulbright Scholar, Behr has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in anthropology and a doctoral degree in geography.

She succeeds Jacqueline Johnson, who is retiring after more than 10 years as chancellor.

Rodney Hanley, provost at Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn., had been named to the position in April but changed his mind weeks later.
