FORT MYERS, Fla. — Police found 14 spent bullets from an AR-15 rifle at the site where Sanibel officers exchanged gunfire Sunday with a man accused of shooting another officer earlier that night, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said.

Sanibel resident Jon Hay is accused of shooting Officer Jarred Ciccone in the shoulder during the traffic stop on Periwinkle Way, but no officers were hurt when Hay, 49, used the AR-15 to fire shots in the exchange on Sand Castle Road, according to the FDLE.

Hay was later taken into custody after barricading himself inside his home and was treated at Lee Memorial Hospital for an injured back.

Bond was set at $2 million for Hay, who faces an attempted murder charge. He remained in custody Tuesday and would have to wear a GPS monitor if released. His trial is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 19.
