Dell EMC launches VMware-powered VxRack system with PowerEdge servers

Dell, EMC, and VMware rolled out a new VxRack hyperconverged system that has migrated to Dell's PowerEdge servers.

Dell Technologies portfolio companies launched the Dell EMC VxRack System for SDDC. EMC, before Dell acquired the company, launched VxRail in 2016 with white-box servers, EMC storage and VMware software. For EMC, the VxRack system marked a departure from the VCE partnership with Cisco for servers. VXRail and VXRack systems still include Cisco networking.

EMC had teamed up with Cisco on converged VCE building blocks, but later bought the networking giant out. Today, Cisco has about a 10 percent equity interest in in Dell EMC's converged platform portfolio, and still is the exclusive provider for Dell EMC Vblock UCS servers, Nexus networking and ACI technology.

Now that Dell and EMC are one company, it's not surprising that the VxRack server portion of the system will be PowerEdge based.

In a blog post, Dell noted that the VxRack system highlights how the portfolio companies can work together. The VxRack SDDC includes VMware's software defined storage, PowerEdge, and various integration points.
